I did just that myself, and yes, they will take any engine. My guess is that the pupose of the trade in offer is to avoid conflict with their retailers, who might otherwise object to Fox selling...

I just got a call from Sharon. She said they are shipping my 74 RC engine. It was on backorder since about March. They are sometimes slow but they are very nice people to deal with.
