RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

c.,

Saitos come new with the LS needle set wildly rich and will run pretty well with it way too rich. This is just a personal opinion based on (limited) personal experience and observation,...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

If this engine is putting out FUEL from the crankcase vent it is some distance from being properly tuned. Probably a long distance. And, it will never perform at its best until it is properly...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

June 1, 2007: One US Dollar = 122 Japanese Yen
Dec. 5, 2008: One US Dollar = 92 Japanese Yen

This is a 25.6% decrease of one currency vs another. By what percentage did Horizon/Saito...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

me,
My Saito .91 is set up in the same manner: Harry Higley prop-lock, Dave Brown adapter and spinner. No troubles.
If the centering ridge cause problems, perhaps one could file it...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

AV8R,
I have an early 3.00 twin, a close cousin (or little, but larger, brother) of your 2.70. The crankshaft thread is 8 x 1.25 mm.
It uses a Harry B Higley (google them) prop-lock...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I certainly don't want to offend anyone here, or no longer here; but I have often wondered why end-users (us, or at least me) would think that they know more about a particular product than the...

O.F.,

Don't know how far you are from the rest-of-the-world. However, if you can access one of these: http://members.aol.com/harryhig/EngineAccessories1.htm (look at the prop-locks), you will...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

UF120,

I have a single-carb 3.00 that I have run only on the test stand. It would turn a Bambula 20x8 at 8200 when leaned to peak. I have not yet flown it. The airplane upon which it will be...

Mounting dimensions are given 170mm x 220mm. 220mm = diameter.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

RPM,

1100 feet-per-second (approx Mach 1 at sea-level) requires a little over 18000 rpm with a 14" propeller......I think.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

RPM,

If one would: Pi x prop diameter (inches) x rpm, divide this product by 720, one should arrive at prop-tip speed in feet-per-second. I think[sm=confused_smile.gif]

GSS,

When in...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

O.F.,

Many people seem to recommend APC 14x6 for the .82. I have flown two different .82s in Bruce Tharpe Ventures and have found that a 13x6 works well. My engines are flown with Pro-Zinger...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

r335,

I have had very good success with my .82s, .91, and 3.00 twin using these adapters and spinners: http://dbproducts.com/

And have found that they work very well in conjunction with...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

O.F.,

If H. has run a .62 on a 13.5x6 perhaps that engine will run well with a 13x6 (13x7?).

Maybe you should put it back on the bench with the 13" prop, stock muffler with pressure to...

It has been my observation that the recommended propeller sizes for Saito engines may be a little optimistic. At least, this is what my experience has been with wooden Pro-Zinger...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

The Saito ads for the 1.15 say it is built on a .91 case???? Might explain size differences.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Johan,

If you have not yet tuned, that is leaned, this engine, do so. A Saito running with factory needle settings makes a terrible mess when it runs. The factory needle settings are VERY RICH...

Are you, by chance, putting pressure in the tank with a hose from the crankcase vent? Have you leaned the HS and LS needles yet?

Are Satios difficult to tune???? Do you think an 82 would turn a 16x8 at 10000???

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

isaacslaw,
My .82s run very well on 13x6 Pro-Zingers, also on 15% nitromethane. These are wooden props and the engines are both on Bruce Tharpe Ventures. The planes are 72" span sport...
