RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Maybe I'll call after I've fiddle some more with the tank, fuel setup. That is the number one "usual suspect" right now.

Here is a link to a vibration fix for Mojos and other slabs. The new Mojo...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

The engine is on a Chinn Yak, and tank is on with rubber bands but I think Ineed more foam and maybe the rubber bands are too tight. The transition from low to high is smooth, the high end rpm is/was...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Surging Saito 82. Mostly in the mid range and when there is little load on the prop, i.e., in level flight. Goes away in a climb and full throttle. Only 10 to 15 fligths on the engine and I've turned...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

It isn't a Higley heavy hub, just the lightweight aluminum spinner one. It's some kind of harmonic vibration thing, it only does it at 5000 rpm + or - a few hundred. And the tank does foam like the...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Some say .82s and 1.00 vibrate more because they are bored out smaller engines, I dunno for sure. My .82 vibrated some, still does a little. Some of the vibration can be tuned out by adjusting the...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

You've met my girlfriend?

Oh, the Saito. No, I've tried every needle valve position possible and have the muffler burns on my hands to prove it.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

No spinner Mike, it's on a profile with a Higley hub and safety nut. Most of the props have been balanced, doesn't seem to make any difference. I've seen photos on the net where backplates (on...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Most engines and especially single cylinder engines have a speed range where there is more vibration than at other rpms. It is difficult to make these engines smooth through out the rpm range. You...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Saito 100 still shaking. Badly. So bad it is destroying the electronics in the plane. Found the wire to the satellite receiver broken yesterday. Have put about five gallons through the engine. ...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

It is roughest at mid throttle. The whole airplane shakes so bad you can't hear the engine running.
That would be me about leaning. I keep hearing about "running it too lean" and the consequences...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Interesting... I'm having a heck of a time getting this engine to smooth out, looking for all the things to try that I can find. Maybe I need a new spring!

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I have a new Saito 1.00 and it has a spring in the throttle arm area. When I go to turn the LSNV the plastic arm will move in, the rpms will change and sometime the engine stalls. Is this the...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Maybe not "absolute" since I was adjusting both needles trying to get it to smooth out. I'll try again paying special attention to the adjustment of the HSNV.
Thanks,
Bob

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Wondering why a Saito 1.00 runs fine when the LSNV is turned all the way in, i.e., bottomed out? I've been trying to tune out a vibration problem (at half throttle) and discovered that even with the...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Exactly the problem but my props may even be thinner. I do have some thin washers but it takes five or six of them to get out to where the threads are. Maybe a spinner with back plate is the...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

There are a couple of APC props I have tried on this profile with the Saito 1.00; the 14 X 4W, 15 X 4W. The Xoar props are about 1/2 a millimeter too thin, can't get a good grip unless I use one...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

On my Saito 1.00 with an APC prop the (1) the shaft doesn't have enough threads to tighten the nuts against the prop and, (2) the shaft is so long the Higley nut won't tighten down to the prop. I've...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

This happened to me once, I kept backing out the needle valve until it fell on the ground and the engine still ran! It was full of dirt and the dirt was reducing the fuel acting like the valve. ...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I suppose those washers need to be just the right size (centered hole) to avoid vibration -- where might I find those?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

The APC prop I bought for my Saito FA-100 is so thin (where the shaft goes through the prop) that the prop nut can't be tightened down because it runs out of threads. In other words, the non...

OK, thanks for the info and link. I guess I need a spacer or two for these props.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

My LHS sold me a "Safety Spinner Hub" but I think it is the wrong size (SPN008) for my FA 100. It is an 8 X 1.25 -- don't I want a 7 x 1.0 (SPN007)? Also, this one, if screwed all the way on would...
