I've never seen a dented cam either, BUT - I had to repair an older member's Saito .50 that had the valves set WAY too loose - maybe 3 or 4 times maximum. I had to replace one of the rocker arms that...

I have repaired 3 Saitos in the last 18 months that have had stripped cam gears - two 180s and the other a 125. Other than bad luck, I think backfiring or "jiggling" the throttle to get the engine to...

Skypup,
The Saito 50, 56, 72 and 82 all share the same mounting bolt pattern, but not necessarily the same case width at the beams. The 82 would turn a larger prop (14" easily) and, IMHO, be a fine...

Regarding needle valve extensions: I have found that very long ones are nothing but trouble after a while. I make up and use a little (short, that is) 4-40 bolt cut down and turned or filed to fit in...

Actually, the 65, 80 and 91 all share the same mounting dimensions. The 50, 56 72 and 82 share the same mounting dimensions, but different than the 65, 80 and 91. The 82 weighs 462g and the 91 weighs...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I have a Saito .72 inverted in a Venus 40. Eleven years and hundreds of flights. +1 on the care not to flood it! 15% nitro, 17% all synthetic with 2 oz./gal. castor added. Response is instant - no...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Hsukaria,
I'm the one who had troubles with the .82 and the plastic backplate. The engine was mounted on a plastic beam mount and that was flexing in addition to the backplate flexing - allowed the...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Sometimes the described noise can be a result of the cam and gear moving front to back slightly on the shaft, although the engine is then usually a little noisy when running also. I've found this...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Thanks guys,

I'll give the LHS a try - have to go there for fuel and other "standard" stuff anyway. Sometimes I just need another brain to help me see all the options!

Very interesting! I have a DD head for my ST 90 and was curious how to prop it and what to expect. You saved me asking.

On another note - I was installing new bearings in a friend's Saito 180...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Guys,

If you can find one (at an auto store), a 2-jaw battery terminal puller works just fine on all but the biggest engines and they are not much $. These tend to be better made and not so...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Hobbsy,

Yep - that's the one. If I decide to run it - maybe a wide-blade 11x6 prop? If I remember right, these weren't real powerful.

Thanks,

Jim

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Hi All,

I just picked up a Saito FA45 [marked as series "G"] intending to use it - maybe in an oldtimer. Well, I was surprised to see that it appears to have never been run or even mounted....

Hi,
I've come to the experts for help. I have a whole bunch of Saitos - 50, 56, 72, 82, 91, 100, 120 DP, (2) 150s - all run great EXCEPT the .82. I bought this second-hand (no box, papers, etc.)....
