RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Obviously you've never tried using 2%-3% castor in a fuel where the balance is a good quality hi-tech synthetic.

This gives you the best of both worlds with no compromises.

I had a TT46Pro...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Just a note to say that I'm bowing out of Club Saito.

No, I'm not selling my Saitos (I plan to buy more!) but the mods here on RCU are just too much to bear so I'm headed elsewhere for my...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Who did the work on that 120?

I would be surprised if the bore needed deglazing and if it did, whoever performed such a task would have to be *very* careful because it's only an extremely thin...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Crikey, you wouldn't catch *me* putting that stuff in any of my engines!

WD40 is a *very* poor lubricant and a barely-adequate corrosion protectant. The liquid in it evaporates quite quickly...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I'm with you guys...

Synthetic oils have many advantages but they make lousy protectors against corrosion/rust and have a lower ultimate film strength than castor.

I despair every time I...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Yep, especially if you use a little castor in your fuel (which you should).

My Saito 82 has a really crusty muffler but the one on my 100 is a lot cleaner.

When they get *really* bad I'll...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I've found that the Scimitar series from MAS actually give more thrust than the K-series.

I'm running a MAS 14x6 K-series on my Saito 100 in a Mojo 60 profile at the moment and I *really* notice...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I've always run my Saito 100 with an APC 15x4W prop which is quite heavy and on 10% nitro it spins at just over 10,000 RPMs -- although I only use full throttle very occasionally (flying 3D you...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Interestingly enough, the cam followers tend to be such a good fit in the crankcase that I doubt much/any of the oil you put down the tubes does much at all.

There is however, a very good oil...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

It's been my experience that *all* oils create some measure of carbon inside an engine. The difference is that many synthetics seem to create a layer that (while taking much longer to accumulate) is...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

It looks as if all the major manufacturers are brushing up their product lines. TT have a new range of 4S engines that are lighter, stronger and much prettier than the old ones. On paper, their new...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

*Always* take the backplate off a 4-stroke engine and lube the big-end by hand if it hasn't been run in a long time. As you're already aware, it takes a little while for oil to find its way into the...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Yes, Ferritic stainless has a low nickel content but has the advantage that (unlike austenitic stainless -- the hi-nickel, non-magnetic form) it can be hardened through heat treatment -- making it...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

That's just another reason why I buy my bearings from Paul at RC-Bearings.com, at least he knows what he's talking about and doesn't come up with nonsense like the stuff you were told.

Stainless...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I built my own intelligent onboard glow driver. It allows user-set on/off points (so the glow comes on at a designated llow-throttle setting but goes off when you open the throttle beyond that...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Today, while I was dripping a little oil down the pushrod tubes of my SA100 (part of my regular maintenance schedule -- i do this after every 10 liters of fuel) -- I figured "hey, if there's a path...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

When I fitted a velocity-stack to my SA100 I noticed no difference in performance (power wise) but I get about a 15%-20% improvement in fuel economy - which is significant over the course of a...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

The usual method for reducing engine exhaust noise is a process called integration -- which simply means reducing the pressure difference between the highest and lowest variations in the exhaust...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Uh-oh!

I don't know about the 100 twin but most of the single-cylinder engines don't have inserts for the valve-seats, they're just a thin layer of chrome plated directly onto the aluminum.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I just use Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil when I assemble my engines.

It's not miscable with alcohol but that doesn't matter -- neither is the grease in those sealed shielded bearings :-)

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I'll second that! I've bought quite a few bearings from Paul at RC-Bearings now and they're all working *very* well. I was also delighted with the excellent speed and efficiency of his service.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Actually the pressure *increases* as the area increases and (as a result) the velocity of the flow decreases.

Bernoulli's theorem proves this and this is why we have things called diffusers in...

I'm only 52 but I know what you mean -- my first RC set was a single-channel super-regen set with a nice rubber-powered escapement. I've still got an OS Pixie super-regen set with a couple of...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

A friend of mine got himself an ASP/Magum 180 and I was amazed at how *little* oil that thing spits out compared to my Satios.

Okay, so the vent from the camshaft goes back to the carby -- but...
