The only way I can imagine landing nose wheel first would be an outright crash. The hopping can certainly be a problem, though. If you only fly to and from a hard-surface runway, the nose wheel...

You need more than tri-stock. The bulkhead itself is too weak. It should have been 1/4" ply, but is only 1/8" liteply with enough cutouts and holes to render it a serious weak spot. I used 1/4" sq....

Something else to watch for: On grass, it's really easy to tear up the bulkhead that the nose gear bolts to. A bit of reinforcement of the bulkhead prevents this. I've seen it happen on 3 different...

Flying it SMOOTHLY is the key, all right. The elevator is very effective at all speeds and at high speed, it's more than enough to fold the wing instantly.

Slow flight and crawling around the pattern are fine. The approach speed is noticeably higher, but that's a relative thing with a SJ. Landing speed is still lower than a lot of sport-type prop jobs....

Just glass the hell out of the wing joint and you'll be fine. I flog mine fairly hard and it's still solid as a rock. When I glassed mine, I had already stripped the wing for the clipping. It was...

Mine are stainless, too. I forgot mine on a trip to the field once, so I bought a couple of spare sets at Home Depot and keep them in my TX case.

8-32 sounds about right. All four of my wing bolts are the same length, 2 1/8". I use fender washers on the TE bolts to keep from crushing the wing. You might want to consider clipping the wing. Mine...

I have a Rabbit in mine and I had to use larger (heavier) batteries to keep the CG within limits. A tail-heavy Shok is downright suicidal at low airspeeds, especially in a spin. My clipped-wing Shok...

RE: TBM Shock Jet

Honda: If you HAVE to have a 2-piece wing, contact Limey Bob at LDS and order one of his JetMach 60 kits. It can be built with a one- piece OR two-piece wing. Yes, you have to build it, but Bob's...

RE: TBM Shock Jet

Sorry to say that I don't, Honda. I should be able to fix that after the first of the year, though. A new guy in the club not only loves to shoot video, but he's quite good at it and just bought a...

RE: TBM Shock Jet

The wing doesn't need to be 2-piece, just clip it! Here's my clipped wing next to my full-span wing. The clipped wing is 64" span. Small enough for almost any vehicle. The roll-rate is 3-4 times...

RE: TBM Shock Jet

I agree. The airplane would just continue to climb until the power was reduced. I once flew a Shok owned by a friend I was helping to get ready for his waiver test. When doing a touch and go, if you...

RE: TBM Shock Jet

Check BVM and Dreamworks for latches. The originals are crap, anyway. Mine fell apart pretty quick.

RE: TBM Shock Jet

I don't think ANY fod-screen will fit without surgery unless you mount the turbine so far aft as to cause CG issues. The TBM 101 oz. tank requires minor surgery also, but it's strictly an out-patient...

RE: TBM Shock Jet

The usual angle for mounting a UAT is 45 degrees. Get within a few degrees of this and you're golden.

StevL: The turbine is mounted too far aft. You will need a BUNCH of nose-weight this way. If you open up the former in front of the turbine, the fod screen will clear it. Even then, I still needed 6...
