Pete- I've been trying to get Dave to see that I agree with him for a long time. I think we are using 'breaking in' the wrong ways at times. If one is lucky a guy can get Saitos that just about are broken incompletely in an hours time....like the 82 and 56. Had a talk with the old timer at the hobby shop about tuning engines today. If he tunes an airplane engine with a certain fuel he makes sure he only runs that fuel. If he changes he goes back to a long tuning process. The age of the fuel matters to him too. Always the same method every time for him and he's good from what the guys say. He's having a lot of problem guys coming in with cars that need tuning and then going out and screwing it all up the first day out racing around. Pretty interesting talking to someone so meticulous with their tuning habits and I left learning some things to think more about.

I asked him about a nice but dirty looking SupreTiger 75 on the counter. A guy came in saying it wouldn't idle and got so mad he gave the owner the engine free. The low speed needle was screwed all the way in. Otherwise, it will clean up nicely. Those are nice looking engines.

Barry, I've seen those kinds of guys at flying fields before, they try to tell everybody how to do everything and that everybody is wrong. They have no fun and are miserable. I avoid them like the plague. I wonder how many people he's driven away from the hobby. As my Dad used say, if you shoved a hat pin up that guys ass, the Budweiser Clydesdale's couldn't pull it back out.

I was listen to a guy who took up C/L in the last 6 months talking to an old guy in one of the local R/C clubs telling him how is was doing C/L wrong. The old guy just walked away shaking his head. What the instant expert didn't know the old guy has a garage full of trophies from C/L competition flying. He has more days teaching C/L then the other smuck has minutes flying.

"White Hats"... who just Nazi the hell out of the field... don't contribute anything useful.

Likewise... those who don't have a clue... but also offer-up their lame "advice" don't achieve all that much in the end.

What's important... IMHO... is the person who "knows"... offers up their advice in such a way as it doesn't sound intimidating, or parochial.

We can all learn a lot from those who have "been there...done that".. if it's dished up the right way. Hey?

I my self have found that the older i get its hard to offer up help to some people. They all have been on the internet and now all there is about what they are trying to fix. So when you try to offer the right advice they are less willing to listen. So you keep your mouth shut and walk away shaking yor head.

Barry you know what happens when people get old and ornery er about running engines in,doggone downright stubborn in fact.I agree,when you have a well run in and tuned saito the needles stay the same week in and out although the first flight of the day can seem a bit off till the engine settles down again.This is when some people start playing with needles thinking it needs a fine tune and it does'nt.Had a guy at the field who looked like he was handcranking an old car starter the way he used to turn high speed needles on any engine he owned.A saito 180 chucked a prop and smacked him in the side of the neck..as he was'nt bleeding i allowed myself a large smile,revenge is sweet.

ps did dave say he was waylon at his willy?

OF, you can see my Shoe String in my link, back when I didn't have a Cowl,, I have a Cowl for it now but it's a .40 size Cowl, I had to mod the plane to get it to fit, but the plane is not finished yet, I ether have to replace the front bearing in my OS or find another engine, I now know where a Saito 100 and 91 are,

the 91 has about 1 gallon run threw it while the 100 has 2 or 3,, I hate buying used engines because you never know if it had a lean run and scared the piston and liner, at that you paid all the money for a used engine then you have to rebuild it and yet no warranty for all that money

that plane has had many bad landings do to the OS .61FX flaming out on me, it would start well just by back fliping it by twisting the Cone but then flame out in the air

The shoestring cowl looks like my midget mustang cowl from the front nice polished ally spinner mine has one too.Don't worry too much about scored rings or liners with a saito i'm an expert at abusing them and they just quit when they go lean.Has dave stopped listening to waylon yet?

Well broke the rear cylinder glow connection!!!!!! FU-K. The Saito 200ti glow are extremely hard to get to. Well new cyclinder head probably needed.

I had their record and in the 80's it would be play footy on the saturday then back home for cards and a big drinking session ( and other illegal substances ) and the record machine with "Jimmy and the boys " being on the hit parade . Thats the band in the vids. Man u dont know how much fun life was when u were young until its all over and u get married !

Once installed you shouldn't have to touch the rear plugs for a long time, the glow plug connectors could go on the rear of the front cylinder and the front of the rear cylinder. Would a 1/4x32 tap clean it up for you? It's clear that having plugs between the rocker covers is a pain.
