That is a beauty! One of the nicest store-bought that I have seen. Well thought out and executed. Don't know if I could afford it !
I am not looking right now, Jim was probably talking about the little aluminum half-spools that are holding up the two Saitos in one of my pics a few posts back.
I have made quite a few over the years, some were very elaborate but I gave them all away. A few weeks ago I tossed one together but it isn't done yet. So far it is usable but this one is very simple. It will do from an Enya 09 the the biggest glow I will ever use and holds hard and firm.
Now that Jim mentions, a polished brass version does sound like fun! I'll have to check my metals stash when I get home from the field later

It isn't cheap being hand built and using first rate materials. I got to say Gary the aluminum jobs you pictured above are just as well made. A polished brass job would be neat to see you could even splash a little black paint on the base and call it the "Golden Knight" edition! It would be perfect for Saitos! I was looking at the old Saito above I like the way they did the open pushrods. I had the first 4 cycle OS .60 and if you flew it you better set down easy or you risked losing pushrods and cam followers.I sold it NIB back in2004 to finance my reentry into the hobby.

You could sit ther with the heater on and an ice cold beer
Mike i really like your idea of a 'golden knight' test stand,the brass prop nut/weight gary made is nice too.I usually make do with whatever i can cobble up when i run in a new saito.Made the mistake of using soft pine and self tappers once to mount and run in my first fa115.On the second tank it took an unauthorised flight round the shed with me hiding behind the chinese lawnmower.

I just bought this Saito 1.20 Fat Head, new and un-run, why did I do that? I dunno.
Nope, it's not a Fat Head, just an early 120 S.

Many thanks but I have a 1991 and a 1997 C&H unit, the 97 is Synchro-spark the 1991 has a 2,500 rpm, (all in) Synchro unit that plugs into the sensor wire. The 97 unit had a cap for a Maloney 125 and Sr. Tele changed it to the 1/4 x 28 conventional lead.

The CH the pic with all the other stuff comes from around 1987 IIRC.
My first purchase from tBill Carpenter was a breaker point kit for an S-40 Super Tigre
Changing the lead on a real CH is a snap compared the same job on an RCexl.

Well,
Went to the field after work, , a beautiful day it was!
Watched a long term student qualify as a pilot and got in seven flights of about 20 minutes/ each myself. Stayed unti 7 PM , the cool winds were just starting to come in from Lake St. Claire. Hard to leave, felt like spending the night. Watched a herd of 20 White tail deer out in the beanfield as I locked the gate.
I had been thinking about making something from brass all day long. When I got home I grabbed a brass bar from the shed. About 1/2 hour later I had a couple more half spools sized for the little Saitos.
Time for a night cap, I leave for work at 4:30 AM.
I always look forward to the news from Down Under first thing with my morning coffee.

I didn't change the lead, I changed the McDaniels 1/4-32 spark plug cap. Don't remember if it was 90* to 120* or visa versa.

Gary i opened up google earth and bloody hell had to spin the globe round so it was bass ackwards to find lake st clair.If all the big lakes freeze over you could do some serious ice skating,maybe andy was right when he said you should have been an ice hockey player.I like this mild climate here where you never scrape ice off windscreens and snowplows are unheard of.Neat flying field.
ps in your engine pic there's a thing that looks like a revolver cylinder and the key for it,what is it?

Thanks Dan, it was the 120 and I still use it. I am still amazed that my FG 11 factory timing is 40 degrees btdc and it never kicks back even when half heartedly flipped.
The 120 has never been run, it's coming from Medway, Me. It's the one with the fat round tube into the intake port but the later carb, it has gold rocker covers and a Gold Saito 120 s sticker

Dave i'm not familiar with the saito 120s is it a runner or needs bearings etc.Is the fa150 a bigger version/same case? 16oz's of coffee is a big cup here.The author bill bryson from des moines iowa wrote a book called the lost continent-travels in small town america.In it there is a joke about folgers coffee,could apply to any brand in his context,won't repeat it here.

The revolver cylnder and mating key are the propellor nut and its wrench.
AFIK and according to Adrian; The CH is a hand assembled, non-potted RCexl unit. They are installed in a more CH traditional aluminum case.
This makes them more repairable rather than virtually disposable.
An earler Saito 120S This is a Dual Plug, Pumped
Note, the FA-120 is cast directly into the case. The FA-1.20 and 1.50 as well as the 1.80 are the same basic case.

Nice pics Jesse. Better than Bill Robison's pics of engines that had cat hair all over them, taken with a camera and magnifying lens.
That is a great idea for engine stands. Plus, it looks very good too. Best idea in a long time, imo.
