I know what you mean. I toss out those old salt shaker Saito mufflers, every one that shows up.
Much enjoyment from making custom mufflers(AKA "silencers" in the real world) ... Mufflers that fit well and perform too.

The proportions do make ait appear as a squatty, de-stroked version. Still, same bore and stroke as the other FA-120 variations.

I love the larger fins adds a bit of weight but I'll bet that beast won't over heat under a cowling. Hey Rudolph we can tell Squeek rules the roost!

why hello my Saito friends, you guys are not going to believe this story, but I'm going to tell you anyways, yee-up, I am,,
well Wednesday I was a bit upset because (in my home town) I could not find #5 wood screws for my retracts wires, I have to say I was a bit upset about it, I even told the lady at the hardware store that they are ruining the store, even the Depot didn't have them..
well later-on Wednesday, around 4pm I surfed the Net for heat shrink tubing for my servos wires, extensions wires and retracts, I wanted to order a roll around 15Ft so I could cut it to length and I would not have to order more down the road, well while surfing the Net I found this store called "Jaguar", it is based in NY, well I looked around the site for 2 or 3 clicks, I wasn't sure just what size to order so I just grabbed the phone and called, (I guess you guys can believe all that),, so this older guy answered the phone and he was great, and funny, a real joy to talk to, LOL he asked where I was from and I told him Vt, and at that he said "we know people in Vt,,, and we like them too, they are good people, how much tubing do you need, and what color",, well my Saito friends, to make it short, it was not a store, it was a manufacture, the guy asked me to send him an Email telling him the size of the wires, so I did, as said that was Wednesday, and I didn't send the Email till around 7pm, so they didn't get that Email till Thursday morning, well Friday around 1pm I receive a box with 4 (four) 16ft rolls of blue Shrink Tubing (in sizes 1/8", 3/16", 1/4" and 3/8), all free
, I couldn't believe it (but I do),, now get this>, while on the phone he told me if it doesn't work for me just call him again and he will send me more LOL,,
well Friday I called him back and thanked, I told him "it was all to much and he didn't have to do that, told him I would have paid for it, and I thanked him again", he then said that "this sample was nothing to them because their usual orders are in the thousands of feet, and he said besides we like to help people",

fa115 muffler with no cats hair
Perfect for a 46 size decathlon any maker.
Jim i think that's what gary means when he talks about paying it forward.Here's a pic of a brand new fa82b with the different cam gear cover.
Dave what's the drill with your new fa120s.Fit a prop and give it a wiggle to check the bearings,do the valve clearances and kick it in the guts?

Thanks Pete, it's brand new but aged like fine wine, maybe, I've been thinkin, if I CHI it I can use the CH unit for the Saito 300 and spark two spark plugs. It turns over as smooth as silk, it has no plugs in it, they were packed separately. The cams sure do kick it when the lifters go over the hump. As to the crankcase pump. I dunno yet. We're having monsoon season, water, water everywhere, I cut about 800 pounds of oak yesterday and finally gave it up about 11:00 am. Many sore muscles today.

Surprisingly Saito still has some 120DP parts in stock including this cylinder.

Jim, did you try this page for the screws? I buy all screws from them and have never been disappointed.

You can find them with a web search however. Most will be flat head Phillps (yuck) Good luck finding nice, plain old slotted pan heads.

Intake pipe angled outward like exhaust.
The sausage muffler is packed and addressed, it will go in the AM
In checking the 120 DP closely I noticed that the intake port is angled, (outward from the crank center line) just like the exhaust. The right lug has a F on it. The carb venturi is 9.5 mm, no real need for the pump system that I can see. Horizon still has standard rear vent back plates for it. The choke is gone now, an O-ring takes up the space the choke left.

Dave when you talk about the cams kicking the prop when the lifters go over them it reminds me of idly flicking a prop over and listening to the clicking sounds the engine makes as it turns over,and also the painful clicking sound of the apc prop kicking back off compression and smacking the back of the knuckles,it can take half a can of beer before the pain settles.I'll post a pic of your chainsaw for the boys or were you splitting logs?

I was cutting the the fallen tree into 25" lengths to bring home and split. My saw is a one year old Husqvarna 50 cc with a 20" blade, it's parful and fast. It's also smooth and fairly quiet. The most beautiful thing it does is start one the first pull 90% of the time.

My saw.
My OS .62v has that muffler.I am debating about the Slimline muffler that came with the Saito 120. It's unopened, maybe I should pass it on. The weather is miserable I may play with the FA 120 some more.

as far as the 120 i had full intentions of running it this weekend but ran in to some other things to do.

That HUMOGOUS salt shaker they made for the big block Saitos was a bit challenged in the looks department.
That saw in the pic appears to be a Rover aluminum V8. Interesting engine. It was originally designed around 1960 by GM for Olsmobile and Buick compact cars. One Oldsmobile model , the F-85 was ffitted with a Garret or Air Research turnocharger.
Some years later, British Leyland bought rights and tooling and took over the production of that engine. They used it in many vehicles over the years, even built a V8 version of the MGB using that engine.
The Buick/Olds aluminum V8 has also seen a lot of use in homebuilt aircraft.
But I like that saw, even if that is not the same engine.
BTW , My 50 year old 85cc and 52 year old 100cc McCulloch chainsaws are also first pull starts 90% of the time
Haven't owned one of them new, imported saws yet.

Husqvarna varna isn’t exactly new. I believe they have been around as long as mclagh.
Anyway got the Husqvarna to replace a 60’s home lite which is still a good saw just a little slow.

I don't think I said Husqvarna was new to making rifles,saws or sewing machines for that matter. ???
I haven't owned a new version of any saw yet. Around the house, I rarely ever use a gasoline saw. Electrics are so much better whenever possible.

I'll make this quick, I grew up running two Strunk chain saws made in Coatesville, Pa. Note that the pull ropes are opposite each other, the Speed Demon, 24" bar was direct drive, the Custom Pro, 30" bar had a four to reduction gear so,the engine had to be reversed.
I don't think that the dual sparkplug 120 is a workable idea. It doesn't seem possible to get either a 90 or a 120 degree plug cap on the front plug.

Mall two man, gear reduction saw.
Dave, Love those old saws, some were pretty weak for the weight! Back when I was 15 my dad bought some acreage near Pigeon Forge Tennessee. My dad, his hired hand and I spent the summer clearing mostly Pecan and Oak trees. We used a huge, two man Mall like this one to cut the good stuff that went to mill.
Do you need a salt shaker muffler for your 120S ?
