We're about 9 miles from the Potomac river which is normally 9 miles wide here, Geri and I took a cruise in our new Cruze through Colonial Beach yesterday. Normally the water is about 30" below the docks, yesterday it was only about 4" below them. Thanks man.

I have a place in East Tennessee that is right on the French Broad River. just downriver from Douglas Dam. Luckily it is on a bluff about 100 feet above the river.
My sister lives about 1 mile down the road but her house is situated about only 20 feet above the normal waterline. Good thing the water is controlled by the dam. They are expected to get some rain and perhaps tornado activity early next week but nothing like the rain in N Carolina.
If I lived in NC, we would be in Ohio right now!

Picked up a Saito relic yesterday, Saito 120 "Fathead.Sure makes my other 120s look small. Weighs 3 ounces more than the 120DP cession at 33 ounces
Well weathered and in need of help, should be a good project engine. The side exhaust is a bit different as is the cobby carburetor.

Thanks Pete, the Saito 120 triple came yesterday, I set the rocker lash and installed the crinkle pipes. A Keleo ring will be bought in about a week. I just tried to order a Sonic Tronics build it yourself glow plug adapter kit. All the ones I have are for twins. The big green bicycle is resting comfortably in my air conditioned shop.
The storm didn't amount to much here, steady rain and a few wind gusts. We may go and check on the river today and see if it climbed out of it's banks.

Some of you may find this interesting, the bore and stroke for the 120 R-3 triple and for FA 40a are not the same as, one would think. It would be interesting to know the reason.
Saito FA 40a
Bore===22mm
Stroke=17.4mm
Saito 120 R-3
Bore===22.4mm
Stroke=16.2
The Saito 100-T and the 50 single have the same bore and stroke
Bore===23.4mm
Stroke=19.0mm
Saito FA 40a
Bore===22mm
Stroke=17.4mm
Saito 120 R-3
Bore===22.4mm

hey now, my Saito friends, we mounted the retracts in my .60 size VQ P-40 wings last night, span is 62.8 and the retracts are 95 degree Eflights, struts are Robart Robo Struts,,
well I was so worried about getting the screw straight I asked my carpenter friend to help, he too flies, he has a 40% Week Special Pitts he built it from scratched, it has a 170cc in it, his first one was also built from scratch but it was smaller, not sure the size but it had a Z G62 in it and it was a great flying plane, he says the 40% flies even better,, he also has a large 88" span P-40 with an Z G62 in it,
well so, there I was in his shop and he was about ready to drill the 4 holes for the first wing, I brought my small Level to level the wing, the hole placings were marked, and as I handed the Level to him he said he didn't need it, well as he was drilling the holes I was cringing/wondering how he could drill the holes straight while holding the wing at a 15 degree angle, well the 4 holes were drilled in the first wing, and I put in the screws as he watched, and the screws went in perfectly straight,, when done all 8 screw sat beautifully straight/level in both retracts, I just couldn't understand how he could hold the wing on such an angle and drill those holes so straight, today I told my son it must have been years of pure craftsmanship.
so now you may be wondering and saying "why Eflight Retracts", well if you are, here are my 4 answers,,,
A) after 9 months of researching .60-120 size retracts I came to see that these Eflights had no more complaints about them, and even less complaints about them than other brands of the same size that cost $100 and $150 more..
B) the Eflights have been upgrades threw the years and complaints have dropped,
C) the Eflights are rated for planes up to 15 pounds, and my plane should weigh in at 9 to 10 pounds
D) I had enough of researching retracts and I settled
I'm happy for now LOL

Gary, I know you have been doing this hobby a long time, and you have your tricks, but if you take that 120 Flat Head apart, and soak it in hot antifreeze for 6 or 8 hours and it turns grey all you need to do is take a rag or paper towel and WD40 and rub it well, it should shine like new again, then use rubbing alcohol and paper towel to remove the WD, it will be dry and should shine like new

Bought a new smart tv today and those salesmen should not sell them to dumb people,took me an hour to figure out how to attach the legs so it would would stand up on it's own,i've sobered up faster than that.

Sounds about right.....Most likely a design decision based on geometry. Larger bore opening and diminished rod angle. Things get tight with that articulated rod setup.

Got to run the FA-120 Fathead. Wow! It rus sweet. Early rotating disc/air bleed carb and a very fine 7.9:1 compression ratio. Very easy hand starting and low, low idle. The sound on the open stack is not overly loud but healthy. Also ran it on the salt shaker muffler and the trash can muffler.
Loaded it hard with a 18-6 Lanyu propellor (very nice prop, hope they show up at Toledo this year)
With the Enya #3 plug no sign of detonation. Fuel as usual, home brew 14% nitro, 14% total oil with 2% of that oil being good old castor.
I ran it at estimated 4K RPM for about 1/2 of the 14 ounce tank. Got 24 minutes on about 7 ounces! (Left my tach at work)
Dew point here was 63F degrees. Note the water beads on the intake runner.
A very nice old bugger!

Yeah the water beads are normal on the intake tube at those temps,nice engines i like the bent wire/tube engine stand.Can you post a pic of a lanyu prop?
