Jim i like the vid of the truck being driven at night past the huge wreckers yard,do i wish it had a set of stubby pipes on it.
You won't regret buying the h9 taylorcraft,very predictable and just as nice inverted at slow speeds.I like the super chipmunk but the original chippie looks more graceful to me,and fancy having a saito 200ti for it,your blessed.Ive also flown a taylorcraft with a saito fa125 fitted,which flies it scale re loops etc,the fa182td obviously does a lot better than that.No tail weights needed.
I too like the plain old Chippy version but that Art Scholl version is a bit of a Hot Rod.
That test of the Alpha and Saito should be fun. A good opportunity to pull out my old (very old) YS .53 and do a comparison. I will even order a couple of those Grope-ner props just to keep it fair. Lottsa fun eh ?
BTW, With the 12% synthetic/2% castor oil package, the clean up is little different than 18% synthetic oil. (As you probably know)

I forgot mention in the other post that I also pulled the Saito 56 out. Did you want that compared to the a56 with a 12x6 or 13x6 prop Dave? And what fuels? Trying to get this done after work each day this week.

That is indeed a pretty engine. Can't wait to see what you put it into.
Doesn't that little 90 sound awesome with those short stacks! Even at full throttle it sounds beefy.

Gary this is my proudest moment...after 10yrs studying at dave's university of slightly/maddeningly out of focus photography,i've graduated with honours but seriously...that's a 20mm thick standoff piece of hardwood x 2 plus a 2mm ally cap strips behind the engine mount.It will give you about 2mm clearance between the cowl and spinner backplate.No need to carry any lead unless you run the fa125,then you'll be strapping some to an engine bearer.

Jim, that is the shiniest Saito I've seen, I broke out, and almost in, a NIB Saito 56 and it sure isn't that shiny. I could only spare 40 minutes for it. I'll finish it today some time.I put a Xoar 12 x 6 on it. Would you like a velocity stack for it? I could fix ya up.
Pete I have a new NIKON Cool Pix B-500, it does good.

No, the 1.25 is one Saito that I never managed to capture. Actually, when they get to be that size , I would just as soon get a big block Saito.
The 120 Saito is a real sweetheart if you have the room .
I always thought Hobbsy was looking for that romantic soft focus intentionally! The pic of that 56 looks darn near as sharp and shiny as Jim's 115.

I am sending my newer Saito FA 30 to a friend to review, I decided to make sure it is completely broken in and set up.

Dave, thank you !! it sure will be nice of you to make me a Stack for my 115, I believe it has the same Carb as the 100, it sure looks to. take your time, it will be a while before I will need it..

Pete, I believe that tape I have over my exhaust port is aluminum, not sure, but I'm not going to taste it to find out ether LOL, I use it on my other engines too.. I like Jay's show,,, about his collection of cars he has, it's funny, he has all these priceless cars and then you will see has a Mustang 2, or a Vega LOL

Guys, has any one run a "newer" Slimline Pitts muffler on their Saito 100, 1.15 or 125 ?? (see link below),, I'm wondering how well the engine will run with one ??,, I ask because my OS 61FX was robbed of power with the older Slimline Pitts !!
to add, I took another look to see how well the 1.15 will fit in my VQ P-40's Cowl, I think it will fit good with the stock muffler as long as I use a 90% adapter and a longer header,, but if I use a Pitts muffler I feel it will be a cleaner fit because the holes in the cowl for the exhaust stingers will be closer to the center on the bottom of the cowl..

hey Guys, I thought I was done here tonight LOL,
well, watch this Hanger 9 .60 size Spitfire fly with a Saito 125, it looks to drift at times while under power, I have not seen a plane do it as much as this one in the video,, I wonder if it's just the wind or the fact that it's packing a lot of power, or could it be excessive thrust angle of the prop ?? what you say ??

Given the conditions he's flying it in jim that is well done.Gary that spitty engine and prop sounds real neat on a flypast,the fa182 at full throttle sound twice as loud and good.
Sharp shots on the little fa30 dave.Do you remember mine used to pull 10800 peaked but that was on 15% with 12% klotz syn and 3% castor.At those speeds the mas 10x6 was starting to rip the prop tips.Did you watch jims jay leno vid of the 39 pickup?
ps gary i cant believe mobile phones take such great pics these days,they even come with editing software

Your beautiful FA-1.15 should run well with the Slimline muffler. Four strokes are no where near as sensitive as two strokes regarding a bit of backpressure. Therefore it is misleading to compare the results of two strokes which are FAR more sensitive to exhaust conditions.
RH, I am really eager to get the 182 into a plane for a proper break in. Here we are, heading for winter with quite a few engines in need of planes. Plenty of dust in the shop for the next few months. Have to put my favorite Norwegian to work, plenty of covering for her to do!
Yes indeed the smart phones have amazing cameras. That screen shot is right from the camera with zero post editing. Probably could have been better as the wife's computer is about 7 years old and today's monitors are much better. No editing on that pic. Just turn off the room lights, and hold the phone parallel to the screen. Glare kills contrast and sharpness. Outside lighting makes glare.

Here you go Jim: Saito Engines Carburetor Body: QQ,UU SAI100831 is compatible with SAIE100, SAIE100GK, SAIE115, SAIE115GK The Saito engine code for the 115 is AM but it's not on the Code Chart for some reason.
I passed one of those Slimlines along to Captain Crunch. I am not a Slimline fan, as you experienced with the OS 61 FX, they lean toward the, one size fits all method.
Thanks Pete, I actually saw 10,720 briefly a couple of times, I have to credit wind gusts for that and for 10,620 showing as the peak
One click leaner than 10,440 was 10,380 so 10,440 is it. I have little straight pipe from a 90 triple I'll have to try.
I don't think that the guy flying that Spitfire plane was using any rudder.
Lastly, why the tape on the exhaust, I never seal anything on an engine, that in my book guarantee's rust. But that's just me.

Jim, What kind of camera are you using? That pic is pretty sharp, also very well exposed.(As are almost all of your pics) .
Also, I make up special elbows of all types, as needed.
