Dave, when my cousin was around 10 he jumped off the roof of his father's shed, about 8 or 9ft high, he just-about bit his tongue off, the Dr would not sew him up, said he would pull out the stitches, boy did he bleed,

I think I have you beat there. When I was 12 my dad bought me the first gen Cox Corsair for Christmas, (the one without the rudder kick to keep the lines tight). He was antsier than I was to start it up so here we were in the living room. Dad did not want to get fuel on the stool of his LaZBoy so laid down the newspaper and loaded up the plane with fuel, connected the lantern battery and wound her up. Took many tries with priming into the exhaust port, but finally lit it off. Fine tuning the needle got it screaming until it sucked up the newspaper, shredded it and sent the castor soaked cloud into the kitchen where mom was working on dinner. She was NOT pleased!

I started with a Profile CL plane with a cox .049. My dad let me glue up a couple of parts and apply the dope. He could fly the heck outta that thing but all I did was crash it. It eventually ended up unrepairable so he got me a Cox Stuka Dive Bomber for xmas, then another and another...... I never did get the hang of CL. Lol

Just for fun last year I checked ebay to see if anyone was selling a cox stuka, there was a NIB one that sold for over 700.00! Wow, I was crashing investments!

Those women are funny that way, my wife does not like ashes around the wood burner, it can't be helped, so I clean em up. My big red shop vac makes short work of that, getting it and out of the house is a pain though. It gets moved around a lot, I attach it to whatever saw I'm using at any given moment. I keep thinking about plumbing my shop with a vacuum line and a branch to each saw.

I have the Saito 120 DP back in the PSP with a Xoar 16 x 6 on it and two new OS-f's, I know they won't change anything but I did it anyway. After the 50 minute run above the rocker lash was just a wee bit loose, now they're back to .04 mm. C 429 er, I finally caved in and use the OS gauge. You should be proud of me. Woops, minus the CH Ignition. That will come later.

OK,
so if I mount my FA82 in my ShoeString I can't run a 13" prop, it's just too long, and I would rather run a 2 blade than a 3 blade for the speed, I would like to go a bit faster than what my OS 61fx would pull it with the APC 11X8 on 20% with the old SlimLine Pitts (11800 RPM),

now I did run an APC 12X6 a couple days, it turned right at 10400 with the 20% and that power robbing Pitts, it was not as fast as it was with the APC 11X8, over all the 12X6 at 10,400 just didn't perform anywhere as well, it was just too much prop for the OS with that Pitts. to add in the years I have seen many people on RCU recommending to others to NOT use the APC 12X6, and to only use the 11X8 on the 61fx,

the Calculator tells me my FA82 will have to turn an APC 12X10 at 10,000 to push my plane 5mph faster than the APC 11X8 will at 11,800, but I don't think the FA82 will turn an APC 12X10 at 10,000,

so I have been wondering, as I was talking back a page or 2, about trying an FA100 Carb on the 82, meow



Glowgeek, I have never had more fun flying than I have had with my ShoeString, I would land and run 100ft down the grass runway/wheels on the ground at full throttle, people loved it, they tell me it's funny

OK Guys, maybe one of you can tell me what the hell this is used for.

I finally got around to cleaning the work shop and the first thing I hit was the table where I had stored the lathe and mill, and sure enough, mice got under them and they got rusty. The lathe is fully cleaned up and operational, the mill I had to order a new Y axis lead screw as it was too far gone to salvage. Thankfully that was the only piece that had to be replaced. I discovered the the crate the tools and other parts were in got soaked when the basement flooded, even though it was sitting on 2x4's so a lot of the tooling got rusty, but nothing some soaking and sandpaper can't fix.

Found the steady rest and got that put together, along with the vise and a few other accessories for the lathe and mill, and fired up the PC for the first time to find out what software it has, and found it runs on Linux, but a really old version, so ordered new software as well that comes with the OS as well as all the documentation to use it, which I am missing. I also figured out the cable I need. All this time I thought I needed a female to female parallel cable, and I just need a male to female, which I can easily find. Once I get the parts, I can reassemble the mill and finally fire it up to learn how to program the CNC part. Then I can make landing gears and other items.

But, What the heck is this used for?

Jim i still don't understand the prop dia issue with your 60 size gp shoestring with a 60" wingspan.Can you post a pic of the gp side on and fuse in a flying attitude with a 14x6 prop held in the approximate place.As i keep saying my midget mustang pun intended,is smaller,runs an fa115 with a mas 15x8 and you have to tip the mustang well forward of a flying attitude,like very nose down to rest the prop tip on the ground.ps just love the smell of castor!

It looks like 8,950 for the 12 x 10.

Jim, the GP 60 Shoestring does have kinda short squaty mains but it wouldn't be too hard to fab up taller ones for bigger props. If I wanted to go faster I'd be sticking with 2-strokes though. A Dub Jet Tuned muffler or even a DIY mousse can muffer would liven your 61fx right up.

The Shoestring I saw at this year's fly in had an OS 91 with a mousse can muffler. Man that thing would rip.

Dave, can you provide a link to that 82 review? Interesting that he suspects that the 82 will make at or over 1.5 hp on 15% nitro. 1.5 hp peak is what I'm looking for ie 9700 rpm with an apc 14x6.

Thanks Dave! In the article the picture of the crank is not super crisp but it appears that the machining on the crank pin is smoother than on mine.

Saito 82-A & B Bore====1.14",stroke===.80

These figures make the 82 appear to be a revvy engine but the cam timing has more influence on the torque characteristics than the bore and stroke. It must also be taken into consideration that the larger piston in the 82 has more surface area for the piston pushers, air, fuel and ignition to push on. The little 30 is a surprisingly torquey engine.

I spent a couple hours on their site as well as Google trying to find it. I had to order the Y Axis Lead screw, and found the software upgrade too. Funny thing is, not too long ago I saw that same part, but now I can't find it again.

I am considering getting their indexing table so I can make a crank case for a 7 cylinder, using Saito parts.
