Thanks Pete, I was wrong and felt obligated to own up to it, so I did, along with the "embarrassed" emoji as to the HD thing, well, doin it 66 years makes me an old dawg. Grab a stubby mate, kick back and watch a Saito run.

Default Are Stainless Steel Bearings Junk?

So I switched to Boca stainless steel bearings after having problems with two sets of RC stainless steel bearings and what do you know? They're loose as a goose after less than 1 hour run time. I noticed the prop wiggling around today on my fa62, both in and out as well as side to side and grounded the plane. WTH? Are SS bearings just junk?

I will send out the Carb tomorrow for sure,

I have to replace the frame (Engine Cradle) on my Toy van, my god they get $1,900 for a new frame, so they got me a used one from down south (picked it up today), they wanted $800 shipped, so I told the guy that in the last 40 years I have bought 7 or 8 cars from them so I think that they could come down on the price, so I got it for $650 +tax, and you should see it, it's just 2 peaces of stamped sheet metal welded together, and you could pick it up with one hand, in fact you could pick it up with half a hand, they sure get enough for them, even the guy in the parts Dpt said the price is just crazy

Glow-ish are you tighter than a first gear hairpin when it comes to buying stainless bearings? (i once heard that copper wire was invented by two scotsmen arguing over a penny) i buy japanese bearings and even not using after run oil i get a years flying out of a set.Still on the original eight years old saito fa182td stainless factory bearings and they are still as tight as a...i can't tell you right here

Exotica does not seem to be good feature for bearings, these simple $11.88 bearings do not loosen up, I've had some of them in Fox Diesel conversions for a long time. And even more in Saitos and OS engines I've rebuilt, mostly for my self.

Lonnie, on the 82 with the 100 carb, are you running a smaller prop for more rpm or running a larger prop hoping for more torque, Thanks

Are you referring to the "Economy" bearings?

Yes, sir, they're all,I use now, I wasted 50 some dollars on Ceramic bearings for a Fox 50, I feel I wasted that money because they disappeared inside the engine, got moved to anther Fox and lived a long time. Maybe it wasn't wasted after all.

I must confess to never having used SS bearings. Jan/jaka may have stated that the SS bearings don't last long. He would know if anyone does.

I've researched for many hours on bearings for our little engines. There are just as many advocates for SS bearings as there are opponents. Longivity seems to be the contention. Well I've seen it for myself now, 3 sets of SS bearings from 2 different suppliers have failed in VERY short order. Back to hard chrome for me. I've read that ceramic is a great option too if a fella wants to spend the money and never has prop strikes.

Gary did post a link for some better quality bearing manufacturers, probably going to try one of those or perhaps Nachi.

Hey, that's a sweet looking plane and a very good price. I see the owner has upgraded to eflite retracts, good thing because the stock VQs are terrible. I'm flying a 7.1 lbs. H9 Red Tail P-51 with an FA62, plenty of power.

RPM with Turbo Header==9,390

The poit, poit, poit, is alive and well at idle with the Turbo Header.

This is going to seem backwards to most, these are the numbers for a Xoar 12 x 6

Prop===Xoar 12 x 6
Muffler===stock non revised rpm===9,590
Muffler===TurboHeader rpm======9,770
Idle=========================2,000, pretty shaky though, lighter prop I guess.

I did make one laugher, I didn't connect the tank pressure line to the Turbo Header, it immediately quit on throttle up. The 50 has never offered to kick the prop.
I fully expected the Xoar numbers to be lower.

Its funny how an engine can fool you on performance with a specific prop.

So true that is. I will go back and re-do the APC 12 x 6 to make sure I didn't get fooled some way.

I have the Eflight 60-120 rotators for my VQ P-40, with Roabart robo struts, the Eflights work great, but have not been in the air yet

Lonnie, I have shipped the Carb, it will leave the PO at 5PM. note that it comes in a padded envelope, and careful when opening it because there is a 2nd envelope inside that you do not want to tare because it is pre-addressed for you to send the Carb back in.

boy, I sure got enough "does it have in it" questions this time when I shipped
does it have batteries ??
oil ??
gas ??
even water ??
any flammables of any kind ??
food ??
any perishables ??
candy ??

LOL what's next ??

Bruce did the weather clear up so you could run one of your new fg30's for the b25 yet? if so what prop did you choose for the run in.

It's our easter holiday long weekend here from friday to monday so had an fa82 lined up for some serious flying tomorrow (friday) but the weatherman says huge sea swells high winds and bucketing down,i thought what? like last sunday when you said possible light showers and i got my riding boots filled all day,flight packs are still on the charger.

That's one cool looking cat Pete. Same attitude as cats over here I see; with the "uh huh, whatever" expression on its face.

Oh, that is not the uh huh face, that is a p!$3d off face and I'll bet that tail was thumpin too. Poor cat got shaved and is probably hot now.

I haven't had a chance to run up the new engine yet, and out of town this weekend so probably not until next week.
