Gary, thanks for the offer on the tacho. I ended up buying one of those $20 GT Power tachs. Seems to be working flawless.

John, congrats on getting the cams in right. What a perfect warbird engine!

Lonnie, that 50 sized cam I sent is the last one I have without a dent in it. Let us know how that all goes.

Pete, have you been imbibing any of the cousin to methanol. I've been out for about a week. The 82 crank has not arrived from Macgregor, today maybe. I have a perfectly balanced 18 x 6 Classic on the 1.82, when you push either blade down it simply stops somewhere and does not drift back at all.

Thanks Dave, I see an FA45 mkii to FA45S upgrade in my near future! Not even sure if I want run a baseline test of the 45 before putting in the 50 cam. Probably will though, it's a Lonnie thing.

Anyone have an FA50 complete carb that they'd want to trade for a used FA45 carb or a slightly used FA82 carb?

Reminds me of something my wife and her sister did to their cousin to get back at her when she had her first child. Anyone remember the toddler toy the Fisher Price Corn Popper? Well the original had wood balls inside that were switched to plastic to make them cheaper to build, it also dampened the noise it made. My wife and her sister search all over and found an original wood ball model to give to their cousin to drive er nuts. It worked it was her little girl's favorite toy!

Note special chunk of concrete for holding pistons level.
These two pistons are 24.8 mm in diameter, Saito 56 size, but the one on the right has a shorter skirt. They are identical otherwise. Any knowledge out there, Thanks There is a wrist pin holding them even

Sorry, they are extras from a box of stuff. The current offering is more like the short one, I may have to pull a 56 apart to see and share.

On looking at a 56 with an H on the right lug the longer skirted one is the earlier, the longer skirt won't let the crankshaft go to bottom dead center, it hits the crankcase maybe 15 degrees before bdc. I'll provide a picture in a few minutes. Pouring rain, not much else to do.

Looks like Saito went to a larger counter weight. Is the skirt actually hitting the crankcase? Or is it hitting the crank counterweight?

Easy enough to simply relieve the skirt a bit eh?

Skirt hit crankcase

That much short of bdc.
It's hitting the crankcase as you can almost see with the crank pin just short of bdc.

Sure enough. Trimming the skirt should cure that in short order.

It almost has to be from this version, this one has an A on the right lug, a metal throttle arm and a rear vent. Earliest version I could find.
Mine are F and H version.

A possibility, the 1.30 twin uses the same 24.8 mm bore as the .56, but a 22 mm stroke vs 19 mm leaving room for the extra skirt length.

The longer stroke generally leaves less room for skirt south of the wrist pin.

I'm wondering how fast my 46-55 size P-51 Strega would go with that 115.

Jim is right lonnie i like seriously overpowered tail draggers, and the answer is FAST!. This is an fa115 squeezed into a 55" ws midget mustang with a lot of hours on it.

Dave a few years back i had a small cap 232 with an fa82 in it for low level aerobatic practice and clipped the right wingtip on a 'wait a while' bush, it then cartwheeled in and bent the 82 crank at the tip. From memory the crank cost me just shy of a c note, how cheap do you get them over there?. No i don't drink hard spirits these days unless it's through a very VERY skinny straw, we mostly settle for emu export beer which is known locally as 'hooligan soup'.

ps a warning to any here who may visit asia and some of their bars. The odd aussie tourist gets seriously sick or dies drinking methanol based home made spirits that are sold as american brand whiskies or russian vodka etc, it's cheaper to make up there with methanol as a base.

Capt congrats on the fa115's i like them a lot.

Here you go Pete, https://www.hobbyplastic.co.uk/index...ccdlkr6pduv5p4

Yesterday they were 46.95, mine has been on the way since the 10th, it's running a little slow.
