I have been doing a refresh on a silver Saito 150 for a flyin buddy. It has an I on the right lug. I installed Boca Bearings, New gaskets by ICBM, a newer intake valve, I used the original ring, boiled the muffler in anti freeze. When done it had mushy compression, I expected to be disappointed when I ran it. After 16 OZ of fuel it has serious prop bouncing compression.
Saito 150 plain I on the right lug
Prop G-Sonic 18 x 6
Muffler stock cast
Plug=Glo-Devil 4c special for Saito
Fuel=Wildcat 2/4 10% with 18% full synthetic.
Max steady rpm 9,190, down from 9,230 to reduce slight knock/rattle.
Idle=2,200, not done yet. A little smokey just off idle.
No smoke at 6,000 rpm
Clean muffler, no leaks
Graupner G-Sonic 18 x 6
Saito 150 plain I on the right lug

Dave, if that was a normal 18x6 prop it would take a 3.5 hp engine to spin it at 9180.
My 150 spins an apc 16x8 at 8800 peak, that better matches the rated hp of 2.5hp.
I really wonder about those Gsonic props.

For years I've listened to people rave on and on ad nauseam about how APC's are superior because they rev higher, now the G-Sonic is the superior prop because it revs higher.

To be fair I've ordered an APC 16 x 8 and a MA Classic 16 x 8, and mounted a Xoar Gas Painted black 18 x 6. We might as well find out what the 150 has in the way of guts. I also have a 15 x 7 three blade. On inspection the valve lash loosened a little, th excellent compression stayed after cooling off.

Dave, I sure didn't buy/fly APC because I liked them!
my reasons why I started out flying them,
A) most every one I fly with fly APC,
B) I wanted to buy and stick to one brand,
C) I figured I could learn more about what prop to use on my planes if I stuck to one brand,
D) I figured it would be more economical to stick to one brand,
what I do not like about APC props,
1) most of the APC props I have bought had their balance way off out of the package,
2) some APC sport props have different shaped blades, example> the APC 12x5
am I impressed with them ? > no, but they work.

My faves for a long time were the Bolly Clubman's, the 10.5 x 5 or the 9.5 x 6 for example really woke up a Saito 30. As you've seen in my pictures I have many brands and none are bad.

I use a lot of different prop manufactures as well but only apc for testing. The only props I've used that I don't care for are the TF Power Point props. They really drag an engine down with those thick leading and trailing edges and I haven't found any of them to be straight enough for my liking.
As far as apc being superior, I've never made that claim.

I have a couple of those TF Power Point props on my wall, I don't think they've ever seen and engine. I have a couple of others, the brand escapes me but they were bashed something awful but they worked for me. DynaThrust might be the name.

It's funny, but I bought APC only because they tend to hold up better to ground strikes, where wood is one and done, but now that I have experience in flying, I use whatever I can find now. What ticked me off is I had a brand new Xoar on a plane, didn't even get to fly it. Had it on the run up stand and a gust flipped the tail up causing a prop strike. Grrrr.

Dave i thought singling out an fa125 for a serious destruction test would have given me away. Even though apc props can look as ugly as the grey graupners nearly, you can't see them when flying and their flying performance is very good. Also easy to check max rpm for your saito against factory figures as they are saito's recommended benchmark prop.
Acdc when first test flying over powered high performance low winged tail draggers i run a mas classic so if you throttle up too quickly and it noses over late in the takeoff run you still get airborne and can fly it instead of ending up in the trees.I once ground half the white tips off a mas classic, you could hear it and see the prop reducing in diameter, the wooden prop boys were amazed when i landed and they had a close look, i hung that one on the shed wall behind the bar. Apc pattern props with a light ground strike will usually just lose the tiny tip point but any heavier, such as when you are doing touch and goes or low loops will shatter the ends with long cracks going towards the prop hub, if you get airborne again you plane is vibrating bad because one tip has lost a small lump of plastic.

Howdy Pedro, welcome back, glad you're here to jolt us back to reality now and then. The gas painted Xoar is obviously made of different wood than their blonde wood props. When the prop bottomed out against the prop driver the nut stopped stopped dead, as if tightening up a steel hub. I guess you knew that the Bolly's are no longer made in your Country, I still have a few Bolly's and a few Taipan plugs.

just to let you know I have 4 of those Disgusting 125s. And so far they are a pile. I will have to run them some more. I don’t think there broke in yet. But I am thinking I like the 100 a lot better.
I have a couple 115’s but I haven’t had a chance to run them yet.
