The valve gaps have not been adjusted in a while so I will double check that. I have tryed numerous glow plugs. I think Rajul is on to something as I do not have a fuel filter in line (i'm sorry to say) and it was suggested to me that there is a clog, therefore, no matter how much I adjust, the mixture is not right.

Emvin, remove your HS needle and backflush the carb with fuel. See if that helps, with a filter installed

Is the fuel fresh? Could it have gotten moisture in it?

Just trying to cover the bases...

He said something a week or so ago about him being really busy for a bit. He hasn't answered some PMs either so I'm going to guess real life or something pressing is his priority now, as it should be. He's always been good about returning to us poor, igornant masses, so I wouldn't worry.

I run a 15X6 APC on mine in a Show-Time, has plenty of verticle and slows nicely on the down line. I turn approx. 8700 rpm

I was peaking at about 9600 RPM with an APC 14x7 on my .91, using 20% nitro and 15% oil fuel. I flew it at around 9300-9400. It's a great prop on the .91, in my opinion, but a lot depends on the altitude where you fly, your fuel etc. 9000rpm seems a bit low for an APC 14x6.

Can anyone suggest a place to find these parts?

I have a Saito FA-120 "ALPHA CODE L" that was damaged in a recent crash. I was told by Horizon Hobby that the parts I need are discontinued. I need the intake pushrod and pushrod tube that my dummy radial engine bent in the crash. The Saito 120S (special) parts "ALPHA CODE M" will not work according to Horizon. Any help finding these parts, new or good used condition would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

Hello everyone. I just purchased a used (approx 2 gallons) Saito 82 and was wanting to completely check it out, strip it down (if needed) and clean it up before puting in my plane. I was hoping that you all would know what I should look for, (besides the obvious wear and valve lash issues) how far I should dig into it, and where I might find a service manual or similar to help guide me. Thanks for your time.

here is your manual

http://www.horizonhobby.com/ProdInfo...oke_Manual.pdf

Set the valves .0015"-.004"

Don't take the engine apart unless you have to.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Thanks a lot. I cleaner her all up, and set the valve lash to .0025 for each valve. It will be a bit before I get around to building the plane that the engine is for so running it will have to wait. Does anyone make a pitts style muffler for this engine? I found that slimline makes them for a number of Saitos bt they do not specifically list the 82. I am imagining that one of the others will probably work but which one? Thanks again for the help.

Very few people use pitts mufflers with four strokes

You should never take an engine apart that does not need it [:@] You are more likely to damage something and cause problems by taking it apart and putting it back together than if you just leave it alone. Clean up the outside if you want to so that is looks all shiny and new, but dont take it apart.

Your BEST prop for that engine will be an APC... The APC 16X6 is recommended by Saito. Remember, your RPM will increase while in the air, so dont try go get the max RPM on the ground runup.

Here we go again.

As Dave said, three people, three answers. But generally speaking a Saito will burn one ounce of fuel per minute per cubic inch at full throttle when adjusted properly and matched to the plane and propellor, with 15% nitro fuel.

Chart is most popular sizes with running times for 10 ounces of 15% fuel. First column is full throttle start to finish, second column is with a 60% throttle average. Times are rounded to the nearest minute.

Engine full 60%
FA-56 17 29
FA-65 15 25
FA-72 14 23
FA-80 13 20
FA-82 12 20
FA-91 11 18
FA-100 10 16
FA-120 8 14
FA-125 8 13
FA-150 7 11
FA-180 6 9

The most common reason for excessive fuel consumption on a Saito is the LS needle too rich – at ½ throttle you are still running on the LS adjustment.

Fuel economy is also greatly improved with the use of an intake stack and a Bru-Line fine mesh air filter.

Bill.
This was one of the best posts I have seen reguarding fuel consumption I have ever seen. I wonder how this compares to the 2 strokes of the same power ?

What fuel nitro content are you using? What's your elevation above sea level?

Bill I've tried the Omega 15% and love it in my Saitos. 4 of them. My question is that I have one YS 91AC also, since i trust your opinion. Will the castrol oil mess up my the YS or am I safe to use the same fuel in all?

That was indeed a good post, JettPilot and one that takes a lot of work to duplicate. One great problem is "Standard Conditions" I have done some similar tests, but have no illusions that my data is compariable with other information obtained in varying temperaturers, humidities, altitudes', alien influences, etc.
