Welcome to Club SAITO !
I really don't know about any of this stuff. I just go through the process and prompts and it works or dosent.
and I try again and again and give up on it.
Would that this thing just worked like my 3 pound flooring maul. Sheech, it has never failed or been able to open a file with one well directed blow.
Every once in a while that seems to work. But usually when I try to post a link in RCU it won't let me.
Get the error from RCU when trying to attach the link.
No matter where the link was generated.
Seems RCU system works just well enough to not work well enough.
And I am pretty sure it's just ME that it works so well with.
Arrgh

HeckI don't know where " go advanced " is.

Haha Finally attached something successfully. LMBO
When I try to attach from the device or from files, it says can't upload.
When I make a vid with the RCU program it says it is an unacceptable file type.
This is like trying to kickstart a panhead with Kendall 70 weight nitro in January.
Or my Saito R3 -450 the other day at the snow covered field.

Lonnie, I have two valves, four springs, two good connecting rods and a good idler gear with it's shaft for the 60-t.
In both of my tests yesterday, the bone test and the soft tissue test revealed that the cancer has not metastasized.

Saito 40
Hey Saito friends
Sorry I have not been around much. My part time job in retirement at the CNC lathe shop has had me working too many hours.
This is my latest build. I bought the kit at a swap meet near San Antonio TX and was told it was something that the members of the club there built these as a group and I got the left-over kit. The only instructions were that the rib spacing was 3.25 inches. It was a nice laser cut kit and very simple. The guy I bought the kit from said they were flying them with 25 to 32 size 2 stroke engines. I decided to use my Saito 40. It is actually over an ounce lighter than a 32 2 stroke.
I have the plane all framed and ready to turn over to my covering department. You guys that know me will know what that is.
I need to get the Saito 40 on the stand to run it but the weather has not been good for that here. If I remember right the recommended props for the little 40 is a 10X7 and a 11X6. Do you think this engine would be happy with a 12X5 prop?
I want thrust and not speed. If I can’t use a 12X5 I will try the 11X6. From my measurements it looks like I would have the ground clearance for a 12-inch prop. I’m very interested in an opinion if this little engine will be happy on a 12X5 prop.
This kit was a breeze to build. The strange thing about it is the name. Cabrito. That is Spanish for a baby goat. I’m hoping it flies better than a goat.

"o Advance" is next to the "Post Reply" button you press to post. It sounds like the of video file you have won't work on this site.

Does anyone know how do we can get to a web creator or administrator of the site? I would like to understand why this site will not comply with my wishes. And try to make it happy. Before I resort to liquor, before noon.
Your wish is my command.
You need to post the video on a service llike youtube. A straight mp4 doesn't work.
Convet to uselesstube then copy the html and post that here.

Thanks Gary.
have had some success with that method in the past. Then for whatever reason, I can't get u tube to work anymore either. Videos shot from either of my pixel phones get a " upload error" and never upload to u tube successfully. Lost in computer HELL.
Saitos with worn out rings and valves work better!

Try uploading them to your computer first, them to utub. I had a couple give me fits trying to upload from my iphone, but got them to load from the PC. The two landing gear videos come to mind, they were from my iphone 5. My iphone 6 doesn't give me problems, yet.

Lonnie, do you have this picture for the 60-
t, those timing marks are just barely visible. I enhanced them with a Fine Point black Sharpie.
PS, all the 60-t pictures I can find are fuzzy.

Thanks Dave, very helpful. Saved me some time, I was going to figure out cam timing the old fashion way by watching the rocker arm movements at tdc on the exhaust stroke.
This 60T had shucked a bearing shield and caused some galling to the left cylinder piston pin on both sides of the rod. Apparently the previous "mechanic" who replaced the bearing (s) decided it would be a good idea to lap the left exhaust valve and ham fist the connecting rods cap screws. Ruined the valve and maybe the cylinder valve seat. Overtightening the rod caps caused them to distort and bind on both crank pins. Even when properly torqued there is only .0005" clearance on the big end. No room for carelessness!

FA 60T camgear disassembly
Someone here had a 60T camgear break off on one end, can't remember who. Can it be disassembled?
Looking closely at the one I have here the gear, cam lobes and spacers are keyed and it looks like they are held in place with a thru-bolt which also serves as the front bearing journal. Seems with sufficient heat the bolt could be removed and a new one fabricated as the camgear is no longer available.
I'm not saying that having a new cam bolt would be cheap, would probably have to be made from tool steel, hardened and then ground but I may be an option for someone that has an otherwise good engine.

I will attempt to polish out the distortion this morning using a fairly close fitting drill rod and polishing compound.

The 60T actually ran with the broken cam although setting the valves was nearly impossible.
It was me that had the broken cam on the 60T. The cam fractured right next to the nut. The threads are actually machined down to fit the support bearing. And yes, I think it could be disassembled. I may still have the part and will check later. I repaired and sold the engine, replacing it with the 90TS.

Here you go
The front camshaft journal spiral oiling groove smoothly enters the face of the nut profile at the 12:00 position (not visible in this photo) and exits the nut face at the 6:00 position where the exit machining finish is very rough. This is where I believe a stress riser is forming. IMO the oiling groove is not even required for proper oiling of the front cam bearing. The direction of rotation of the spiral groove is in fact designed for removal of excess oil from the front cam bearing and cam cover area. Still, not needed imo as many OS engines have a similar confined space for cam bearing lubrication and run for decades that way.
