Thanks for the info I appreciate it. I'm more of a scale flier than a 3D flier. I don't a vertical climb I want something with enough power to get me out of a dumb thumbs situation and still look scale. The full size airplane with the original 145 Hp Scarab engine she was rated at 150 mph top speed and a 135 mph cruising speed. The stall speed was listed at only 45 mph. I suspect those speed numbers were probably closer to what she did with the 165 Hp Super Scarab engine.

Might be fun to try a 12x4 for 1.5:1 thrust to weight ratio.

When I peaked into back of the 80 I bought I noticed that the rear bearings is double sealed, not a good thing. New open bearing coming from BOCA.

Dave, that's a very nice 80! With bronze valve guides and connecting rod bushings it's a prime candidate for a gas conversion.

Well, I ALMOST test ran the Corsair, but I have a bench full of balsa and plywood taking up the space I would use to get the Corsair prepped to test. $884 worth of wood, and got the first GS Corsair short kit in the works, the balsa parts are all done, and now working on the plywood parts. I spent most of today aligning and setting up back and side stops on the table so absolute coordinates work every time, all the time. Only downside is that it some what took away my pass through ability, have to work that part out so I can cut the long sheets to size. Maybe I can get to the 120R3 tomorrow.

Wow, in America Speak, that's 110,410 cubic inches, thanks Pete. And it's a two stroke with always verticle piston rods.

Not as much as the $2540 it will generate when I sell the 12 kits it will make.

Bruce I bet I can drink 884 bucks worth of beer before you finish cutting the 12 kits friend

Dave glad you like the pic of that massive crankshaft, I'd like to see the massive machinery built to manufacture them. I did not realise that the engine was a two stroke so hope I have not encouraged Jim to break in to that factory and paint the crank black and gold or post another heli two stroke engine pic, I've included the appropriate mod tool as a special favour, cheers

ps, this one's for you jim

$212 for a GS Corsair short kit? Doesn't sound too bad. Does that include shipping? Lol

That engine uses two separate lubes, the upper end, cylinder and piston is lubed by an oil that is consumed, the lower end lube is not consumed. Each oil is blended for their particular job.

The Corsair is $250, the P-47 $225 and the .60 Corsair is $160. Shipping is about $20. I may run a promotion once I get everything finalized and have a web site in production. I still need to get dome photos of the kit together, and get a kit cut of the other two. I get that done and then add a few more kits to the system. Need to finish the Liberty Sport, add the Bearcat, Chipmunk, Ultimate Bipe, couple P-40's, Top Flight and Pic, and a few others. My friend and I are also designing a true 1/8th scale B-17E with scale bomb bay.

The where to put it did not cross my mind when I ordered it, so now I am trying to find places to store it all, including the packaged kits since the boxes are 28 x 8 x 8. Its taking up a full workbench at the moment.

Slowly getting my various Saito FA's swapped out to FG's in my 60 size warbirds. This requires changing the tank floor height on most of them and coming up with innovative ways to accomodate the ridiculous throttle arm location on these gassers. What's working good is to use a Saito throttle arm extension and replacing the factory 14 oz tank with an 8 oz tank so that the throttle cable can have proper alignment. I'm also adding a vertical partition on the tank floor to keep the tank from interfering with the throttle cable. It's tedious work in cramped spaces but worth the effort to me.

Unlike glow engines gassers require very close fuel metering to operate smoothly. Anything that effects A/F ratio or fuel delivery negatively effects performance. Changing oil type, oil content, octane rating, partially clogged fuel filter, kink in the vent line, changes to air baffling etc. can cause the engine to need retuning. Among the things that can problems is throttle cable alignment. The throttle cable needs to make a straight shot from the firewall to the throttle arm so that side pressures are reduced/eliminated. Also, if the throttle barrel is allowed to oscillate in and out while running it can cause issues so I have been replacing the weaker throttle barrel springs with stronger ones from RCexl spark plug caps when necessary. Just some things I've noticed.

I use rear bearings with no shields or seals regardless of vent location.

With a " shall" statement contained in this post I ask for definition of zz and a citing of the source please.

I think he meant it as a question. ZZ coded bearings are those having metal shields.
