There should have been an o-ring in front of the metal washer on the intake pipe. It may be stuck in the cylinder head. Order a seal kit from Horizon Carburetor Gasket Set:I,J,RR,SS $3.25 [SAI8091B].

What do you think about the use of ARO damaging the seals or gaskets, diaphram in YS or any engine for that matter. Also would that include using WD-40 or some other penetrating oil on an engine that has been sitting for awhile? I have one YS and the rest are Saitos.

Mike, the rpm wanders up and down, more so than when set a little lean, and the exhaust has a "modulated" sound to it, normally it can be eliminated by richening a click or two but not this time. I opened up the valve lash to .004 and 120 additional rpm appeared and the hunting was gone. That term came from the old Jimmie Diesels hunting or surging at idle when there was air in the fuel system. I'm going to run that engine for Harry today with an APC 15x8 then put it back on the CG Tiger 120 where it belongs.

Tom, I tried to PM these pictures but the file is too large, it wouldn't even take one of them. Here is what I have. The jam nut pictured is not the stock Saito split come but an eccentric cone that goes about two turns inside the larger nut, the other is the stock nut. Just PM me.

I did see some where on the lifters when I had it apart a month ago when I checked the timing and valve gap... I am surprised I have had this much were . If you bench run them too much is that bad\?? Or do you think it is because I ran it in the winter\?? I know that If you run non-ringed car nitro engines in the winter they don't heat up enough and cause undoo wear...

The Saito cylinders normally don't show much wear unless metal filings go up in the cylinder.
I've repaired two old 91's in the last year and I put a ring in one. The other, I put a piston in also because the piston had little pieces of steel embedded in it. Both engines run like a top.
Normally replacing the ring will be good enough.
There's another thing on the Saito are the cam and lifters. You look for wear on them when you have it apart.
All of the long use high time Saitos I've taken apart had a least one bad lifter.

Never heard of Corrosion X. Where do you get it? I know that my Saitos will use about anything. Bill recommends ATF Dexron Transmission fluid I believe. I have been using Hobby Lobby ARO.

Doug, I get it from Sheldon's in Calif, a 16oz aerosol can should last a guy with a few engines for 3 or 4 years. Marinas and Boat Sales places carry it also.

Mike, have you ever run an APC 15x8 on your 1.25, I expected mine to turn the APC faster than the 15x8 MasterAirscrew Classic I ran the other day but that is not the case. It turns the APC at 9,000, is the APC Pattern prop a wide blade, this prop has very healthy blades.

This Corrision X sounds like good stuff but sadly not available in Australia it seems. Received blank looks from the guy at the local auto store when I mentioned it. He wanted to sell me some WD40. Cant find any suppliers in Australia but there is a New Zealand website (that incidently hasnt been updated for 3 yrs).
I "googled" the Corrosion X data sheet & the nearest comparable product thing I could find is "Marine 66"

CorrosionX has a distributor in Aussie http://www.corrosionx.com/distmarineint.html However, if you cannot find the aerosol version, you could get the hand spray version, and use a refillable aerosol spray can

This is about a 1992 Saito .80 the bearings are original and as shiny as the day it was bought. The stuff on counterweight comes off, you can see where I made a half hearted pass with my fingernail. The CX definitely works. The red oil is residual WildCat lube, I dumped about 2/3rds of it out.

Having a hard time finding the Corrosion X here and the shipping charges for a can are outrageous. Any thoughts about Mercury fogging oil or a product called "Blaster" that is commonly found here to combat saltwater corrosion in marine engines?

I set my valve gaps to .002" as recommended and flushed the needle assembly with fresh fuel. For my well used Saito .72 under the following conditions
Prop -- 13 x 6 apc
Fuel -- Powermaster 15% (old, open about 3 weeks)
Temp -- 78 F
Glow plug -- somewhat used OS - F
I got
RPM = 10,200 (an improvement of about 200 rpm)
Changing to a brand new OS-F plug helped by 25 to 50 rpm.
I'll try a fresh batch of YS 20/20 fuel in the next few weeks and let you know how that goes.

Your fuel should be fine unless you didn't keep the container sealed.
