at the spot in question in photo 1; when comparing the seat to the outer edge of the Brass Insert with the naked eye, you can see that the seat is not round.

Yes indeed, as you say; the seat periphery should be as described earlier pependicular to the guide bore and concentric with the centerline.

Furthermore, good practice dictates a consistant seat width that remains near centered on the valve face with a clean margin. In full size, multiple cuts or grinds are used to level the area adjacent to the seatbaa well as to place the top margin correctly om the valve face.


Lapping of properly machined seats is near counter productive. Often done simply to highlight the actual seatface to aid visual inspection.

Your excellent photos do indeed show a ?i$$ poor excuse for a valve seat!

Dave, I’m glad you like the 56 I sent you. I wish I would have had some time to disassemble it and run it through the ultrasonic cleaner before I sent it to you. I am interested to know where you get the HY props. I still have some original Bolly props here and like them very much.

I agree, but (as I'm sure you know) you do not want that seat cut to dep, cause you will loose some spring pressure. you do not want to do that on a 9500 RPM engine LOL

hey Dave, the more I see the more I have bad things to say about that old OS 61FX I had, it only turned an APC 12x6 at 10,400 with the old Slimline Pitts burning 15%. shame shame you OS 61FX

Thanks, it is a sweet heart, I typed in, "Xoar Propellers" on the Amazon search bar and they came up off to the side. The shipping takes a couple of days longer than most Amazon shipments. I did change the front bearing, the bearing in it was a shielded bearing, Gary had sent me several bearings a while back, so I had three that would fit it.

Gary, those OS V engines have perfect machine work, at least to the naked eye.

Jim, the LA 65 was the king of 60 sized two strokes in a six engine shoot out several years ago. On second thought I think it came in second to the Fox 60. The Fox 60 has virtually the dimensions as the MOKI 61 Long Stroke.

Yes sir Dave, OS fit and finish is usually quite good.
My big attraction for the 95v is the excellent running quality.
Also use a lot of Xoar props, good stuff!

And the OS 61 probably burns twice as much fuel, the 56 really sips fuel. The 150 you sent me is being CHI'd and will power the Rascal 110, a 7.4 volt LIPO powers the CHI. I gave up on the 182 installation. I'll have to find/build a Big Stick for the 182.
At 6,000 and no smoke.

At 6,000 rpm.

Dave, just a couple months ago, I gave aesy this early Sig Ratscal along with the Saito 150 that powered it. Of course I did put the cowl back on The plane and engine went to two different people.
Pretty nice plane and that 150 ran great on 14/14 homebrew fuel.
Didn't take long before the Saito 150 showed up on eBay with a very stiff buy it now price!
Complete with the one of a kind machined from bar stock velocity stack and brass prop nut.
LOL, gotta love these folks.

Years ago I did some work for an old guy who just liked tinkering with RC stuff, never flew, just put together and tinkered with. One day he called me out to look at his VOIP system, turned out he wanted to give me his stash of planes and helicopters. He had a HUGE turbine powered helicopter, it had to have cost over $5,000 that he was going to give me. Since I don't fly Heli I told him the only thing I could do is sell it, but I don't do that kind of stuff, so I only accepted what I would use. I gave away a couple items to a friend of mine, but still have everything he gave me. In fact, I am restoring the CARF he gave me with new servos and powerbox and will get that ready to fly soon.

I don't feel it is right to profit off ones charity.

Most of the time when I sell engines I lose, Crunch and I talked on the phone yesterday and discussed our gifted engines that we won't sell.

This 182 is one I won't part with.

That reminds me, need to find out if he is going to the fly in next month. I am still trying to figure out how to get both trailers over there, one to the camp site, the other to the field.

As someone who has been on the receiving end of the generosity of you gentlemen, saying thank you falls far short of expressing my gratitude still thank you all the same! Each and everyone of my Saitos is a treasured possession.

When I give something away I have no expectations of what the recipient does with it, it's theirs to do with as they please, and I don't require their loyalty in any way. Like the rest of you who have been on the receiving end of gifting I have sold none of what has been so generously given. I have however gifted some of it to others. Nothing wrong with paying it forward me thinks.

Likewise here, unless of course there is an agreement to simply return the item if the recipient decides not to use it. In this case, there was.
I make a habit however of offering to return gifts before passing them along. Not because I have to, because I prefer.

"Loyalty" is NEVER a condition or expectation in either direction. Any hint otherwise is pure BS.
