I have another confession... I don't fly, I just like the engines!
I have the same problem with foamies. I have over 50 in my collection. Big (2.1m) and small (400mm).
I have Real-Flite 9 I play with from time to time, but no one local to fly with. Local Hobby Shops are more surface stuff and answer my questions with stuff even I know is wrong!
I realize FOAM is a 4-letter word here, but I figure if I ever get the balls to fly, I will have inventory at least to warm up with!

When you have a moment, can you tell me what damage I am looking for in a Saito engine that has been run too lean?
I would assume some sort of wall scoring on the cylinder, but have not seen this before. I have been warned about buying something that looks new, but could have been made junk by running it too lean the first time.
I am buying used stuff and expect to replace bearings, but not sure what a "too Lean" engine looks like inside and what has to be replaced if that is the issue?

I will take every Super Tigre I can get I like them. The sad story of Super Tigre goes like this. The Italian owner needed to update machinery etc. and didn't have it or didn't want invest it and sold out. Then everything was shipped by the new owner to China where production was restarted. Some updating was do and there was a learning curve on the part of the Chinese workforce. Like a lot of engine brands the demand dropped off and production was stopped. A search for a buyer was unsuccessful. Dace it the hobby is flooded with companies forced to quit business when the market got lean. The companies like Saito, Futaba, and OS who have major products in other business lines to keep afloat are the ones doing the best. Fox was a oil field manufacturer but that part of the business slipped to so their engines are no more.

Those are nice. You may consider an Alien Aeromaster laser cut kit. They look similar.

Speaking of biplanes, here is my winter build. I was planning on building a Sig Kougar (which I may still get to) but got involved scratch building the fuselage which was missing from the kit. A Saito 30 would’ve been great but couldn’t find one at the time so I purchased a Royal 28.

Speaking of biplanes, here is my winter build. I was planning on building a Sig Kougar (which I may still get to) but got involved scratch building the fuselage which was missing from the kit. A Saito 30 would’ve been great but couldn’t find one at the time so I purchased a Royal 28.

But seriously, you should pick a foamy which is easy to fly and just fly it. The nice thing with electrics aside from the convenience is that you can fly them in a park, school yard or any open field. The glow models require a sanctioned flying field unless you’re out in the country.
Personally I prefer the way glow flies over foamy’s and the sound of Saito 4 strokes over 2 strokes. Last year I bought an Eflite Turbo Timber and decided it’s just not my cup of tea. It slows down too fast and you have to remember to keep some power in. Glow engines idle, electrics don’t.
