At least you had a great day fo flying! 12-20 MPH makes for a real good time.
The old three channel Sr Kadet is the go-to for those days.

To quote Jethro Bodine, are you greenin me brother?

PS, the 150 cylinder is $138.53 at McGregors.

Hey Dave, I notice the Ultracopper sealant on your 220. Are they prone to leaking there?

The Norwegian Princess captured a pic this afternoon. Winds about 15 mph, right down the runway.

No foolin Dave, I do like to get out on those windy days. And yes, the three channel Sr. Kadet is a hoot to horse around with on those days. Nice too that the jet fanboys snd the foamy guys as well just stay home playing video games.

Sounds like McGregors is still the place to buy, even more-so now.
I was going to ask about those RTV traces on that carb too !

Sitting here at the field now. In between methanol disposal activities. Looks like a trip to Pennsylvania after next week. Will pick up some more Panther Juice for next year's batch of fuel.

Gary I just tried to find a spray bar for an 80 at McGregor's, every Saito part that has 8 in it came up, (frusteration occurred), even a spray bar for a 450 radial came up because the part number has an 8 in it.

Lonnie, that happened years ago when there was a fad going on to seal all things intake related, what a waste. I don't fall for that crap any more.

The spray bar is on this page: Saito FA-80 Complete Parts Listing

Should be, it's on the 80 page. Strange.

I have seen that before, where the compatable engines list did not show the very engine I was viewing parts for. I have never ordered parts from Mcgregors but have used their parts lists 100's of times get part numbers for specific engines, which I then ordered from stateside dealers. So far I haven't had issues but I have never ordered a spray bar.

Dave,
IIRC the 62 carb is also used on the 65, the spraybar for the 80 should be the same as well.

Like Lonnie says, those lists are not always complete.
I have ordered all of my Saito parts from MacGregors for some time now. Horizon has become a place I will not deal with.

Yes, I remember well when almost every four stroke at the field was schmutzed up with that silicone crud!

I have couple empty fives Gary. Noah's ark floated by today. I could smell the dinosaur dung. Making fuel for our Saito's. Only takes about 4500 years or so.

Yes, on the third/last version of the 65. The first two versions used that wonderful true fuel metering carb with the tear drop fuel passage at the end of the throttle barrel. I wish that all Saito carbs were made that way.

hey guys. I found the cylinders matting deck on my 91's "lower case" is marked up a bit. how would I clean it up safely. I have some 400 grit DA sandpaper. I could stick it to some thick sheet metal and clean it up. but I'm worried it won't remain flat. what you all think?

Earlier today I was inspecting an E series Saito 180. When I was adjusting the exhaust valve lash, it was inconsistent. When I thought I had it I would rotate the engine and setting would change. It turns out that the 180 had intake rocker towers on both intake and exhaust. I looked and the exhaust pushrod had scuff marks near the top end caused by the pushrod rubbing the top of the exhaust pushrod tube. I discovered that the rocker towers are drilled differently for the pushrod upper ends. The shadows shows the difference better than the physical picture does. I must have lucked out when working on a couple 120's.

The intake pushrod tube leans back more, so is drilled at a steeper angle.

You are talking about the top face of the crankcase (?)

One soft swipe with a clean , second cut (fine) 10 or 12 inch mill file should do it. Just need to level out any raised burrs. Most people over-do it badly especially when they use sandypaper.

Yep Dave, they are different and many folks get crossed up. Often you can spot the ill-fitting squished out push rod tube seal.

Dave/Gary, yes, on the crank case.
I could remove the rod, plug the opening and do as I said above, just worried it won't stay flat.

BINGO.
well I was not going to say anything the other day about this^ highlighted comment above, "was not"! but hey, it needs to be said! I have a brand-new Cam here that I will use in the 91, and I will not put used Tappets on it. so today I went to Tower's (Horizon's) site to order new Tappets and they do not have Tappets, My God. there are 12 different Saito engines that use the same Tappets and Towers (Horizon) does NOT have them in stock until January. January. yee-up,,,,,,, January,,,,, January My God what is wrong with Horizon????

January!!

another thing. their NEW search engine sucks!
Oh yes, and to top it off, they do not even want you to call them, even if you have a problem with an order!

BTW. I have called other stores looking for accessories and people in 2 stores have agreed/and say they hate Tower's/Horizon's new site. I really think that Horizon REALLY should hire Mark Ryder to produce a new, better user-friendly site! it needs to be done!

my blatting is over!
Jim

Welcome to the new world order. Supply chain issues are rampant and only going to get worse with the looming RR strike. It's not just here in the states, but globally, Japan has the same issues with raw materials as we do, just not there. It took 10 months to get a hydraulic kit for my Kubota tractor, which normally takes less than a week to get. It took 6 months just to get the loader for the tractor.

Oh, I think most folks already realize that. People like Horizon profiteering is another issue.
Much of this has been brought about by actions of people now running the show here, in the United States. Print dollars by the ton? To fight a shadow war with Russia, to support a Nazi regime of money launderers in the Ukraine put in place by G Soros.

Sure glad to have all the Saitos I will need, along with the ability and machinery to make many of the replacement parts to keep them running.

HH must be run by sleazy car dealers. Taking advantage of demand to jack up prices. They may find demand is not that strong.

I'm done with buying major components to repair Saitos. It makes more sense to buy a complete preowned "low time" or "NIB" engine.

As awareness of the recent price hikes on parts takes hold we will see the price of preowned engine rise accordingly. It has already begun happening to some extent.

I ordered 2 air cylinders $350.00 each 14 weeks out. But for $1100.00 each I could get them in two weeks. I didn’t order them.

We got tired of crappy, imported hydraulic cylinders and went back to making our own, in shop.

I am not prone to knee jerk reactions, so I'll buy whatever I need from whoever has it. I really wish that WildCat was still in business. I am down to 2.5 gallons of Wildcat 2/4 and one gallon of S&W 15/17, both full syn.

Getting back to the .66 I built, I just broke all my own rules and ordered two APC propellers, a 13 x 6 and a 13 x 7. The 13 x 7 is just to see what kind midrange balls it has.
