Thanks for the birthday wishes, I share my birthday with Bobby Rydell, born the same day in opposite ends of Pa. and with Carol Burnette, born 9 years before me.

The 150 now wears a CHI set at 32 degrees BTDC, the problem was probably me, so cured it. Going to Lake of the Ozarks fishing next, I'm busier than that proverbial tom cat in the 80 mph windstorm. I have a Xoar white 18 x 6 mounted for another go tomorrow.
The Minuette made a surprise arrival today, he must have had some already cut out and packed.

I can no longer see the Cox .049 scars on my knuckles. But the the Fox 29 CL engine that nailed me just above the second joint on my thumb is still very visible. just missed a tendon and a nerve bundle. I was maybe 15 or 16.
Then a Irvine 40 Dykes ringed .40 nailed the other hand, same place. But I was in my 40s then. Happened at home do a test run. I put every thing in the garage and drove myself to the ship I was on at the time. Had a rag around my hand hold it outside the the van while I drove (the side was had a bunch of blood on it the next day to wash off). Came aboard, saluted the flag and the Officer of the deck stopped me and called away a medical emergency to the Quarter Deck. They then took me to the base hospital. I got patched up but the Doctor said He was half a mend to write me me because I was obviously in shock while driving in. He didn't.

Ah to be that young again or at least have a body that young. No way I want to be that stupid again.

Glad the doctor was able to fix it. My wacks were about 90 degrees above your wack. Likely very lucky thing.
And I was using a chicken stick or electric starter both times. First one the engine came off (hey I did say I was maybe 15 or 16). The second time the plane was not adequately secured and lurched at me.
I am a lot more careful these days.

LOL, looks like the joke is on me again. I received my new nut for the Lead Screw today. my lead would only go half-way threw, I looked at it's threads with a Loupe. of course it can't be easy. it's threads are damaged. most likely from when the Post threads were tapped. it cost me $64 with shipping.
now I have to pay to ship it back. I hope this guy is a stand-up mane. either way, I'm betting he will just run a tap there it and send this damaged one back to me.

EDIT; I looked at it again with the Loupe, and I can see, just in the middle of the nut there is a small chunk of thread missing. I don't even understand how that chunk can be missing. I guess I should have bought the Chines made nut.

sorry guys for the Rant. but I talked and talked to him threw 4 Emails about having the correct threads and it comes with damaged threads. go figure that.

Buggered thread ? While disadvantaged by not actually seeing it; A couple of things come to mind. Dull or damaged taps (Some folks use multiple taps to form Acme type threads) Another, big one is using the wrong cutting fluid. Using the correct cutting fluid is pretty important when forming threads, especially threads like this.
That old, stinky, brown Ridgid pipe threading oil is not the stuff to look for here!

Dull taps, single pass tapping of some thread forms, improper cutting fluids. Any one or even a combination can cause the cutting action to become a tearing situation, leaving voids along ghe way.

The big question is how did it not get caught before mailing?


He should let you toss it and send you a new one. Worse yet, holding up the replacement while waiting for the junker to be returned!

Dave, just caught this.

Yes, you could, but really should not bronze braze the gear. The temperatures involved would destroy the wire temper and pretty much leave it dead soft.

A better method, tried and true is to sandpaper the area where you want solder to go. Next bind that area by neatly wrapping with light gauge soft wire. Copper or brass work well but avoid black oxided iron wire an stainless steel wire. Now you can apply paste flux or liquid flux and flow solder cleanly into thd area. I prefer to use an iron. Torches work well but 90% of the operators get things far too hot.

Thankyou much, I just did exactly that about a half hour ago using some fine copper wire, the solder took right to it.

I soldered my first wire landing last year on a preowned 1/4 Cub. Whoever built it did a poor job of pre-cleaning the LG wire. The solder only held in a few spots and broke loose after three landings. The flux hadn't been thoroughly cleaned off after soldering either, so a lot of corrosion had set in over the years. I used brass wire, paste flux and 15% silver solder. I didn't have a large enough soldering iron so I rapidly waved a mapp torch around the wrapped area until things got just hot enough to flow the solder. It looks nice, hope it holds up.

thanks guys!
he's a stand-up guy, told me to send the Nut back. so tomorrow it's going. more shipping money tho. he said he has a lead screw to check the threads, so I am sending him the original nut too so he can see the threads I need. as I said I wonder if my Lead Screw has a different tooth pitch.

I guess the reason I am so frustrated, is, it seems that every time something good happens then something bad goes on. my daughter in-law has my new Granddaughter. but just before that we sold my mother's house. and my brother just packed up, sold everything, sold his house, and moved to Florida. you know. in all these years I never once had an argument with him!!! he is that kind of brother. I miss him. and in July my wife is having a knee replaced, and then in Augst the other Knee will be replaced. I guess I have not really delt with all that very well.

I would recommend waiting a lot longer than just a month before doing a second knee replacement. I have had both replaced and on the second knee I'm still doing physical therapy to get the full range of motion. The surgery is nothing compared to all the work you have to do in physical therapy!

Hey Guys,
Can anyone confirm the exhaust thread size on the FA-120R3. If it has the FA-40 cylinders it would be a 10x1mm. The 40a has a 9x.75mm.

The FA-120R3 has a 22.4mm bore, same as the FA-45S, but is destroked to make the 1.2 displacement. Other destroked Saito radials do share the same exhaust threading with their native singles. That said, the 120R3 and 45 cylinders are not the same Saito part number but that's not unusual due to port location differences between singles and multicylinder engines.

My best guess would be a 10 x 1 exhaust threading, shared with the 50, 56 and 62, but it would take one "in the hand" to be sure.

There is at least one gentleman here (acdii) that has one but doesn't post often.
