RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Plopes,
The camel will be over powered with the 90. A 60 2 stroke almost makes it into a 3D airplane. If I wasn't fooling with this 3 cylinder right now I would put the Saito 56 single in it. It weighs 8 pounds but it is not a high performance pattern ship so it doesn't need the high speed and screaming engines. Keep it calm, with the E-Flite 46 electric motor it will do loops from level flight so who needs more in this model?
It does need the nose weight so that part is a positive over using the smaller engine. Overall this is a great airplane so you will have a good time with it.

if the weight will be right with the 3 cyl,(and its gonna sound way better) and you want scale power , then just use that computer radio and cut the throttle back a little so wide open really isnt, and just in case you want to impress a crowd then you can open it up a little

The Camel would be really cool with the 3 cyl. radial in it!
I'm still working on mine...I put an old O.S. rear pushrod FS.90 in it. (mostly for the nose wt. and the fact that I had it sitting around, but also the fact that I didn't need to mod. the firewall either )

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
hi
i've been asking about my saito 125s problem, but still...i have the problem...my engine wont put out a good performance, i have trouble getting my plane off the ground. the engine is definitely the right size for my plane, i followed the saito's manual on tuning the valves, but still i have'nt got enough power. Would there be some problem with the tuning in my high and low end needle?
please help
thanks

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
The .62a arrived today, I regret that I can't run it today, I've pretty much been bed ridden since last Friday when I foolishly got in a hurry and used Thick CA to make two 6 foot long laminations on my 12 foot TeleMaster. I have Super Tite Bond I bought especially for that purpose but thought I would hurry things along, I burned (or badly irritated) my throat, bronchial tubes and lungs, loads of Benedryl and 2000 mgs of Amoxycillin per day (to prevent infection) and it's a slow process getting well.
The LS needle on this .62 appears to be set in a more realistic position than most, I'll pay very close intention to that when I can run it, so Y'all can be informed. It sure looks small. It has a metal backplate. I'll see if I can get a close up shot of the LS needle before and after. And, it will have a velocity stack before I run it, even if I have to make one.

I don't do well around CA at all. Messes me up pretty bad with just a slight exposure.
Hobbsy, when you called the other day, I missed the fact that you had exposure to CA. I thought you had the flu? I know you were messed up pretty bad.
The CA glue gives off cyanide gas and it is a lung irritant to everyone but it effects some people more than others. A bad case and you will be coughing up blood. Epoxy paint will do the same to you, especially, if sprayed.
I try to resist using it unless really necessary.
It's too bad you had to be sick when the new engine came.

Hello there, Lil chinky boi; We will need more infourmation before rendering any learned advice. The more information=the more informed help can be offered.
I have a CA sensitivity as well. I found you could buy a mask filter setup that would protect you from cyanide, so thaat's what I use when I can't avoid CA fumes, for me it was pretty tough to get through.
That 62 case looks identical to the 45 case (I have 4) what is the stroke?
My Diesel hasn't got here yet.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Help me out here guys, [sm=confused.gif]
I have a Saito 182 TD I recently bought. I got it and it supposedly has only had one tank of fuel run through it on the bench.
I have constructed a pretty solid wood test stand, and ran a tank of fuel through it on its break in rich setting, never taking it over 1/3 throttle.
The second tank I have tried to give it it a little throttle on the second tank, but it seems to shake too much. The vibration seems to be more than I would expect from a 4 stroke, especially a twin. The prop is well balanced and adding an extension to the crank, I cannot see any deviations from true.
An ideas..?
Cheers
Paul

Extensions on cranks are bad news for vibration
If you have one cylinder running very rich, it would likely vibrate more.
Generally the 182 is rather smooth running.
The 182 requires a 10mm prop hole which is larger than most reamers. Is the prop hole off-center from a drill bit?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I only put the extension on to manually check the crank was straight.
Also, I have a prop reamer from Fox that does 10mm. I have checked the prop, and tried another prop that was ballanced just before I checked it.
It is not tunned at all, like I said, it has only had a couple of tanks through it.
I am hoping it's just tuning or something like that..
Cheers..

Thankyou gents, for the kind words, I cough a little less each day but it is frustratingly slow.
Doc, it has the same stroke as the .56. I'll do a thorough write up on the .62.
Displacement: .62 cu in. (10.21cc)
Bore: 26.2 mm
Stroke: 19.0 mm

Tripp2low,
The rich mixture setting makes them vibrate more and they vibrate more when brand new also.
Feeling of the cylinders, and listening, make sure both cylinders are running. Raw fuel and no smoke from one pipe is a dead give away?
I own a 182TD and have been around another. From the factory, the idle air bleed screws are almost closed off. You should open them up to a point where the screw is half way across the air bleed hole on each side as a starting point.
Props should be between 15-8 and 16-8. Which one are you running?

Well... They are easy to get if you live in the USA and you happen to hit Horizon on the right day of the month when they have them in stock. In your country they may be difficult to obtain?

You can make your own with some thin split walled aluminum tubing.
The velocity stack keeps the fuel mixture inside the carb rather than part of the fuel blowing on the airplane. They increase fuel economy. They don't increase power in any measurable degree.

w8ye,
That is the same stack that fits the 100, right? I just received my new 100 last week for a Mojo 60 and am very happy to now be a member of Club Saito.

Very good looking engine Hobbsy. I'm just surprised you didn't get the GK version.
I hope you get better soon! CA reactions suck bad.

Dave, get better soon! As many here have said, I also developed a reaction to CA over the past year. I kept having what I thought was "bronchial asthma" until I put 2 and 2 together.
I now wear a cartridge respirator and it is the best thing I have done for myself in years. I wear it when I use CA, fiberglass resin, Squadron putty, Dykem, anything that stinks. It has saved me all sorts of grief!

Donkey Doctor,
That's pretty interesting regarding the lung irritation from Ca compounds.
For my information and everyone who might be interested, what brand and
type of filter did you purchase?
Thanks,
krop

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Trip2loo,
Lean it out man! Everyone is running these things to slow and rich for break in. It has to get to temperature. The vibration comes from the rich setting. The FA-82 will toss the prop off if the low speed is to rich, it vibrates a bunch when the needle is to rich. Run it clean, if you over lean i on the top end then it shakes and stops, the prop keeps turning and flys off into the distance.
The Saito idle needles are set so rich out of the box that it creates this vibration thing we all see until it gets dialed a little. Just get it running clean and they smooth out a bunch. After about the first gallon of fuel thorugh the engines they sort of change personalities and become easier to run and smooth as glass.
Most engines wont even run with settings this rich.
