Thanks Hobbsy, Have looked at that as an option.Just kind of hoping ,I can find a 90 degree elbow first.I think I would prefer that over the Per>Spec piece.$70 ,and you have to put your own pressure nipple in,which may not be a simple thing .One piece muffler,
and I doubt if theres much thickness for threads.....Apreciate your input....Bill

This is typicaly how I set mine up on all planes, this is just a basic idea on our test/thrust stand. I build a similar platform for the bat and recvr. My last plane had well over 100 flights and never had any problems, now I have had balsa sticks break and end up with the battery flopping around. Good thing it had safety wire or she would've been a total loss.

While receivers and other devices utilizing Surface Mount Technology (SMT) are very mechanically robust these days, the crystal used to determine the receiver's frequency remains nearly as fragile as ever.

The crystal is a wafer of quartz placed between two thin pieces of wire, in a metal case with very little vibration protection. The fact that some receiver crystals are plug-in, makes their isolation from engine vibration even more important than most would imagine. I would not be comfortable flying any model with the receiver exposed to vibration as the one you have pictured. With only a little effort, you could bring that neat package up to satisfactory standards. Yes, this is only my opinion. I would purchase some 1/2" real foam rubber and make a container of three rectangles. The center piece would be hollowed out for the receiver. All three pieces would be held together with dots of CA glue. Then I would restrain the package as you have with velcro.

Hobbsy, another thought......My existing elbow is what ? 70-75 degrees ?. Just wondering if I could take it to a machine shop or something, and have it heated and bent to 90.Would not want to try it myself, for fear of kinking it,but I would think a good machinist could do it..What do you think ? I like that Turbomuffler.Sounds like a good piece..That,s probably the way I will go if I have to.Just
trying to stretch my "hobby dollar",as we all do......Later....Bill

The Saito .92 is rated at 1.7 HP. I don't think HP ratings means very much though. Everyone rates them differently, and some of the ratings are at RPMs that are, to say the least, optomistic.

The prop range for the Saito .91 is 12x8 to 15x6. The OS 55 runs a prop range from 12x7 to 13x7. The OS 61's prop range is 12x6 to 13x7. Not only do I prefer larger props, but the power generated by a 4S is more evenly distributed throughout the RPM range than a 2S.

I really love my 2S engines - don't get me wrong. It's just that it got pretty difficult (for me) to "settle" for a new 2S after I got my first 4S. There are probably very few 2S engines in my future!

Of course, that is just MY OPINION! Take it for whatever you think it is worth.

HELP! Does anyone out there have a cyl for a Saito 91? One of our club members crashed and the threaded area where the header screws into the cyl broke out. Since I am the guy everyone comes to with eng problems, I am trying to help him out. He cant spend a lot to fix it or I would just order a new one. If anyone has a used one please let me know. Thanks

Clarence Lee can put a brass insert in there to screw the pipe into. It costs something like $28.50. His AD is in the back of Model Aviation.

You will need to call him on the phone. His wife, Peggy sometimes answers though.

I think he has a computer but he's never let his Email address out to the public?

hello all. I just purchased a saito 220 and am having problems with rich midrange. the engine has about a gallon run in it. the idle tuned in nice at about 1600 rpm and top end is good with alot of rpm. when I hold anywhere around half throtle it gets real rich and stumbles. I tried leaning the idle but it dies on idle. then I tried leaning the top. but it losses rpm and gets lean at full throtle. has any one had this problem on the 220. thanks for any help rob.

Try opening the throttle to about 2,000 to 2,200 rpm, that will give you more room to lean the LS needle. A good transition is much more important than a too slow idle.

Hi

How are you guys doing. I was wondering if you guys had any good ideas. This will be my 5th plane. I would like to try to tack a bi plane this time. I am looking for a 60 size plane preferably a bi plane for my Saito 91.

The plane that are out of the question to me are.

1. Fourstar
2. Spacewalker
3. Extras and Edges.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Scott

Hello everyone,
I thought that I'd add my name to the list, since I have Saito FA50,FA80 and I just picked up a FA120. I am in the process of replaceing the shaft bearings on my 50 and 80. I found that a battery terminal puller purchase from Harbor freight works great for removing thrust washers. I also have an OS 91 Surpass II which is much more difficult to work on the the Saitos.

Regards, Dave

Hi,
The Goldberg Ultimate comes to mind. The 91 will do a good job and it is easy to fly with no bad habits.

Dave, the person who assigns membership numbers is Bill Robison. Unfortunately he won't be around here for a while as he lost his home to a fire recently. He'll be back, I'm sure, but you'll have wait a while.

Hi guys, Planted my Saito FA-80 into the gravel beside the railroad tracks. Did some major damage, I'm looking for some good replacement parts if anyone has anything. Crankshaft, valve cover, pushrod tube, intake tube, carb needle valve assembly. Might be better off to buy a new engine, but I hate to lose this one it was sweet.
Thanks Don

Go to the "PartsMate" and then select "4 stroke glow", "Saito", "80".

Also there was a guy in the market place that had some Saito 72 parts for sale. The Saito 72 jug assembly is the same as a 80.

On the carb, buy the carb upgrade kit.

w6ye,
Thanks for the leads. Advantage seems to have some lower prices that will help in making my rebuild more reasonable. I'll add them to my Favorites. And, I'll look into the marketplace too.
Again Thanks,
Don

Can someone please help.!! I have a new 220 and i cannot get it to idle more than 30 seconds without quittin. I cant believe this engine is that sensitive. I dont really know much about a Saito some say the needles work off each other and they have to b just right. Maybe a ball park settin on the high needle might help. thanks

So I know where I'm at, I screw the low speed needle out flush with the throttle arm, then I peak the high end and back off about 4 clicks.

Then I peak the low end to where it runs fastest. When you give the engine the gas, it will quit so you will have to richen the low end up just enough to get the engine to transition to high speed. Only move the low speed needle in very small amounts when you are adjusting it or you will chase your tail trying to get it set.

U can say that again .. I have been doin that the whole week. I love the way it runs like a sewing machine but this engine is a lot of trouble so far. ON the 220 and 180 it says that the factory setting is 1 1/2 turns in from flush. DO i need to bring it all the way out to flush even so. When u say very small u mean less than 1/8 turn??
