Wow, you machined that 90degree? if i may ask, what are/is this turbo header? are you guys mostly manufacturing your own ... the only ones i've seen are a pitts style from Slimline

ORIGINAL: RC Specialties

Here are some pics of a new exhaust system for my 1.00 installed on a Hanger 9 Spitfire. The 90 degree adapter came out really nice.

swixtt,

I do manufacture my own through contracted machine services. To read about the TurboHeader review my AD item #295714. I am also offering the 90 degree adapter in AD# 297230. The pitts design shown will be available soon as a kit.

Here is the TurboHeader and a pic. of it installed on my Saito .82, it is good fro a 200 plus rpm increase on the .82 and the 1.00. I ordered a second one from Jim to put two of them on my Saito 1.30 twin but stole the second one for my Saito 1.00, so now I need another one.

Hobbsy,

Is the 200+ RPM increase compared to your .82 with or without a muffler? What prop and fuel?

Thanks,

Bob

The 200+ rpm gain is above that which you get with the original standard muffler

What prop would run best on a Saito 1.50? The 1.50 will be on a 73" WS Giles 202, and I plan to run 15%.

Hello all this my first Saito an FA 72. I always wanted one but they were just a little pricey for my wallet. Anyways back to the purpose of my post. This engine is used and didn't seem to have any compression but what I figured out is the exhaust pushrod doesn't go all the way down thus preventing the valve from closing completely. I took the push rod out and made sure it wasn't bent, loaded the tube up with wd 40, now it closes a litlle better but still not tight. Do you all think it will loosen up some more? I'd really like to use this engine, from what the previous owner said he hadn't flown this engine in about a year.

Thanks in advance,

Joel

It should loosen up with a little use

Older 72's are notorious for having a leaky intake manifold at the head.

Will require a new late model back plate and hew O rings of the intake manifold

Not expensive and easy to do.

I use a 16-8 on my 150. You might try a 18-6 if you can find one?

jlank- I'd try my best to displace that WD-40 with some blue Rislone (in fact, lube everything if you can), and if you get reasonable compression from it after hand-propping, see if you can get it started on a test stand. The engine possibly has some castor varnish built up unside, and if you can get it to run, the valves could loosen right up. New springs can also help a lot, in addition to w8ye's replacement suggestions.

Thanks, W8. I was thinking of trying a 16-8 first, but I thought I would ask for some opinions.

Fly it's not that the valve itself is sticking but more that the pushrod won't drop all the way down.

Thanks

The lifter (cam follower) is sticking in its guide or the pushrod is bent

You have to raise the cylinder up off the crankcase. You can raise it enough to get the push rods out without the piston coming out of the cylinder.

Going back together you have the pushrods in the tubes before setting the cylinder in place. This will be a can of worms but be patient.
