Are there any on-line reviews of the 62a? I have not found any via the usual searches. I ordered one last night to replace a tired ASP 61 fs in a Sig 4 Star 40.

This will be the first Saito I will get into the air, though recently have bought an 82a, 100 twin and a used .30, but have yet to build the models for them.

Hi Bob and everyone,

I got my engine run. I just lean it and set the throttle higher, prime it for 3-4 turns, and flip forwards by both hands. I geuss the problem was the mixture was too rich and flamed before the piston reaching TDC. Now I can start it everytime.

Dave, here is my first Saito .62a turning a Bolly 12.5x6 at 9,150, my second one turns a Graupner 12x7 at about 9,050, no picture of the tach reading for the second one. These run very smoothly and have a perfect idle.

I am still trying to figure out why they bothered to make a .62. They have a .56 and a .72, although I thought it was time that they dropped the .72 in light of the .82's existence. Maybe they plan on eventually having only the .62 and .82?

Having too many varieties of nearly the same size drives costs up unnecessarily, unless they plan on dropping a couple of the older/smaller models. Just brainstorming here. OS has avoided this dilemma, somewhat, though that might not be considered a good thing.

I did buy a Magnum .70, to see what all the hub-bub was about. Now I need a Top Flite Elder 40 for it.

I think when I put it back together after getting the exhaust valve tappet sliding properly I did'nt get the timing right. Needs a new gasket for the cam gear lash. When I got it started it barely ran than stopped with a lot of noise.

WOW! I have been through about 1/3 of this thread and it has been very informative, as well as entertaining. I own two Saito 100 and I love em both. Only other four stroke I ever owned was an OS 70. It was a nice little engine too. Back to reading.

Friend had a problem w/ Saito 180....would run great but when set to idle, would quit....ALL the time.....was using Heli 30%.

Changed plugs, messed with low end, high end and all parts in between.... solution - changed to 15% and it idled from the get-go!

I Have the Powerline version which is about the same as the Hangar 9 I have a Saito 1.50 in mine and it pulls very well the 2.20 would be WAY over heheheh

Hi Guys,

Is it essential as per the above post to put the ring gap back in exactly the same position as it was previously? I am under the impression that the ring is free to rotate in it's groove during operation?

Hi, I have a question about fuel consumption. I am about to start work on a sports model (Chris Foss Acrowot, British kit) and will be using a Saito 82 (of course). In the past I have built this model and used an 8oz tank feeding an OS 70 Surpass, but how long will 8oz last with the 82? I will be using 10% nitro (Coolpower) and my flying style is such that I use the throttle as much as the other controls, most flying carried out at about 1/3rd power, using more for verticals, etc. And NO 3D!

On a similar note, I will be replacing the ASP 61 fs in my 4 Star 40 with a Saito 62 today, the model has been flying with a 6 oz tank (good for almost 20 mins with the ASP). Again, is the 62 more thirsty than this?

Just recived my first saito it's the new .62 size. I plan on using it on my 1/5 sig cub was wondering what is some good fuels for this engine. I currently use Cool Power full synthetic 10%nitro or Omega castor blend 10% nitro.

Neither is a good choice for the .62, you need some fuel with about 5% castor in it. I personally use WildCat Premium Extra, it contains 18% lube that is 80/20 syn/castor blend. In 17 years I have not replaced a Saito or Enya (fourstroke) bearing.

Jim, that is an excellent choice also, I bought 6 gallons of the PM 15%/18%/80/20 lube a while back for $58 because my LHS couldn't sell it.

Coolpower not good for Saitos? It's all I have, not even sure I can get anything else here. I haven't used castor in my fuel for at least 10 years. Sitting here unpacking my new 62a as I type.

You can add Castor to Cool Power if fuel with castor isn't available. There is a guy at my club who adds castor bought from the drug store. He had the rear bearings go out on his Saito .80 a few weeks ago, and there wasn't a spot of rust anywhere on them.

I'm adding a couple of ounces of Morgan castor to my Omega fuel.
