.0015 - .002" would be more like it.

These are usually bent out on the threaded area

It will vibrate like hell. I'd contact the seller and find out what's up and see if maybe you can get your money back, if the engine is not as was described in the auction listing.

leave the low speed needle where it is? The initial setting for a brand new Saito 100 is flush with the throttle arm. But after you get the engine broken in, this setting is way too rich. You well need to turn it in to a point about .5 mm below being flush.

Try your High speed needle at about 3 1/2 turns in the beginning. This will be rich enough to get it started You can re adjust it after it's running.

I use a 14-8 regular prop on my 100's It might over speed with a 14-4? Make sure you are not turning over 11,000 on the ground with a wide open throttle

Saito's like to start at about 1/4 throttle. They are difficult to get going at wide open throttle
My cousin unscrewed the needle till it came out, so I didn't know what the factory setting is, so I'll just screw it in fully, then do 3 1/2 turns out. Yes it's a brand new engine, the low speed wasn't tampered with and is about .5mm below flush, so that seems right.

As for the prop, it's only for break in on the ground and not for flying, thanks for the help.

By the way what afterun oil are you guys using? And how frequently do you use it?

You are saying all the right words. Why should you be confused?

I was running one the other day and the high speed needle was eventually set at one turn. They vary. That is why they are adjustable.

If the oil and smoke are excessive, you may still be on the rich side?

Your Low speed may need to be turned in a slight amount yet? But, if you get the low speed turned in too far, your engine will quit when you try to give it the throttle. It may even backfire and throw the prop? Also if the low speed needle is in too far, you will get little response from your high speed needle.

Your engine should peak at a maximum rpm higher than 8000 with a 14-8 propeller?

I dont think mine would run 3-1/2 turns out, is why I'm confused. I thought they would all be about the same and just hope I'm not running it too lean?

The 3 1/2 turns out is a very rich setting whereby the engine would unlikely be able to run more than 5,000 rpm. It is a beginning setting when starting up a new engine to make sure lubrication gets to all the parts. You need to lean it out from that point.

About what RPM should a Saito 100 idle at? I ask because the lower I adjust the idle the more it shakes and rattles the plane. I set mine at around 1800 to 1900 rpms and it seems to be smoother and not as hard on the plane. It kinda reminds me of the big 650 and 750 single piston dirt bikes, my dad refered to them as Thumpers.

Anywhere below 2500 should be acceptable as long as it doesn't quit

My needle settings for the 100 are virtually the same too and the idle is very nice on this engine. I was peaking around 9500 with an APC 14x8 on 15% Omega after a gallon through the engine. I pretty much turned my low speed in until it quit on throttle up and then backed it off from there until I got a smooth and reliable transition.

I was looking through my paper work and I had written down 9700rpm's WOT with a 14x8 Master Air Screw Classic. Dont know why I thought 8000? I generally dont run it a WOT (no need).

Hanger 9 Ultra Stick .60 w/quad flaps.
Saito 100/14x8 Master Air Screw Classic/Powermaster YS 20/20 fuel.

I think I could put a brick in the fuse and this engine would never notice it.[X(]

Hey guys, check out this Cessna 377 a guy at our club is building.. he brought it to the field today to show it off.

It has two, that's right.. TWO Saito 100 twins with straight out flexi exhaust pipes.. sweet eh? I cannot WAIT to hear this thing running. ) I'll provide updates when I see this plan again next. )

I am looking at putting a Saito 1.25 in my Goldberg Ultimate and I am looking for suggestions on the best Pitts style muffler to use with this engine. Thank you for your suggestions and time.

My 2 front mount holes on the GK 100 got busted in a crash. Is it possible to aluminum weld fill these? If not will the regular 91 block retro fit to the GK 100? Any other choices? Help!

Ok Guys...

Problem... I Augered my Funtana equipped with a Saito 1.50, crashed right on the nose.... Muffler was destroyed the intake manifold broke off and the needle valve was broke off the carb...

I cleaned up the engine and it appears that the case and cylinder are straight and unbroken. I removed the external broken bits but the engine turns over very rough with the back plate on. I have taken the back plate off and the engine shows signs of the Rod pin from the crankshaft is now rubbing against the back plate. With the backplate off the engine turns over smoothly and the cam and valves appear to opperate correctly...

What do I need to do to fix this??? Can the crank move on the bearing seats from an impact like this??? If so should I just rebearing and hope for the best???

Gavin,

I have the CG Ultimate with a 1.20 mounted horizontal. If you plan the same mounting for your 1.25, there is not too many options for a pitts installation. You will probably have to go with another solution. You could consider the Saito 90 adapter with the stock muffler or other options to bring the exhaust out the bottom of the cowl.

Try putting a prop on it and tighten the nut. See if it frees up?

Besides the backplate, the only thing holding the crank in the engine is the prop drive washer/prop/prop washer/prop nuts.

I have a question I have a World Models 1/4 scale Clipped Wing Cub and have a 1.25 aroud and was wondering if you all thought that it might be enough the specs say that is is but you know how that goes don,t want a speed demon just something to float around on and maybe take pics from !!!!! Right now the PO had a MVVS 1.6 in it

i have listen to everyone advice on how to get my saito 125 mixture set correctly, i have the engine now running a 9300 this is about 300 rpms on the rich side of peak. the idle is perfect and runs very smooth at 2400 rpm, and throttles right up. but at mid stick the rpms do not seem to stay at a constant rpm. when the plane is flying you can hear the rpm go up and down slightly and just not run as smooth as when you power up. i am just getting used to this plane and when i throttle up it is going to fast for me now. the plane is a edge 540, 100 size, it has a 16x4 prop.

Engines seem to have a rich midrange more than a lean midrange.

Sometimes this is caused by the low speed is still a little rich.

Sometimes is is caused by the prop being too big

Two strokes with a tuned muffler seem to do this because of the muffler.

Have you tried a 15x6 prop on it yet? That was my first prop for the 1.25 and I'm happy with the power.

a couple of days ago i was looking over my .72 and it had a good amount of slimy oil on it (good for protecting the internals), it slid out of my hand and the safety spinner nut bumped the floor. i dropped it a foot or two to the floor. it's concrete. should i worry?

i have new ceramic bearings on the way. should i also be planning to put a new crank in it also?
