RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hello Hobbsy; I would have thought you would have preffered a horizontal twin rather then a V, like the BMW I ride. I had an iron headed Sporty back in the sixties, didn't like it much. I know that the new HDs are way better nowadays, rubber mounted and all. My sporty had a magneto, kick only. When is Saito going to bring out a 4 valve engine? (obligatory Saito content)

Tom, it sure does, multiport sequential FI and all and at 79 ft lbs of torque would turn a pretty good prop.
Doc., the Beemer costs twice as much as the HD and the Beemer ain't Amuurrican.
Monday I'm getting back in the modeling groove, I've got a couple of Saitos and props to check out.

I have a couple Saito's and have not run either one of them yet. I'm repairing a Cox models Ultimate and was wondering if the .50 would work on it? What size prop will it swing? Where should I start? I also have a .91 that I'm putting on a 4 star 60 I'm building.

Tom, have you ever reported some numbers for it here, I've been tempted a few times to get one, and are the supposed to be mounted inverted or will they work upright just fine? Thanks

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Ok guys having some issues with my 180 with a slimline pitts. Ive only been able to hit a good confident peak one time and that was 9500 on the 18x6w I have it set at 8700 right now think I was able to get it around 9000 Its plenty rich and puts out good power all till the time I go to pull a wall into a hover I start out hovering at half throttle then have to slowly work the throttle up to full over a peiod of about 20sec.
My tank is cg mounted aprox. 13 inches to the center 10 to the front of tank to the CL of carb. Now Im pretty sure this is a fuel delivery issue. Most likely backpressure? I know Ive read or have seen a slight comment that some were having to plug one side of the Pitts exhaust up?
any tips help would be greatly apreciated. I love the engine on this plane ! Level flight to a smooth upline is powerful just when you get the engine under more load like I mentioned above the power slowly fades off.
Mike.
BTW I do have some videos of when the engine was going through the last of the break in. Ill Put some links up eh
Ok maiden flight for both the ingine and the plane http://rcuvideos.com/item/KGKM3YPL0LVKGKKL
and here is the third flight still rich and 8000-8300 rpms http://rcuvideos.com/item/YPMMRM72CHZDBS41
Just think how it would be at 9300rpms [X(]

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I,m getting 13.500 rpms out of my .72 running an 14x4W APC and thats at a rich high end setting . My other Saito,s 1.00 and .56 turn about 10.000 rpms.
Will the higher rpm`s hurt the .72 ? It never deadsticks and pulls like my John Deere. and if I run it any richer , it slobers all over it`s self?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Thanks for the replys. I thought maybe it was my tach, but it works will on the others. If I set the H.S needle any richer, it just slobers and stumbles. Should I set the throttle so it does`nt open past 10,000 rpm`s?
It`s in a Hanger 9 .40 Twist and performs flawlessly and rarely needs full throttle. I also tried a 13x7 APC with the same results.
Needless to say, this is my favorie engine and don`t want to damage it. I am building a GP Ultimate .40 and intend to install this engine on it with a 13x8 APC. But the way this thing runs, I bet it would pull my TP Corsair .60.
