I'm a new Saito owner. Purchased a FA62 and an 82 GK. The GK is almost to nice to put in a plane. I ran the 62 today for the first time. It started and ran nice and seemed much quieter than my OS 4 strokes but they are a .91 & 1.20. Only 'problem' was a leak from the exhaust manifold at the engine. Need to seal it and re-tighten. I'm looking forward to seeing how it is in the air.

pkevinb, congrats on owning two very nice Saito engines! I'm sure blw will assign you a Club Saito Member # very soon.

As for the exhaust leak, take the manifold out, and wrap it with a few turns of teflon pipe tape. Reinstall and tighten it up while it is still warm (or hot, depending upon definition), and your leak will be gone.

Enjoy your new engines! I'm sure you will, as the rest of us do very much.

i too had the exhaust leak problem and did the same with the teflon tape. my muffler is pretty discoloured and wondered what i could use to clean it up?

Dawn detergents make a product I think is called "Power Cleaner" in a spray bottle that works wonderfully. You soak the muffler, wrap it in a paper towel and wait about half an hour. Most of the laquered deposit will peel right off. I use a Skotch Brite pad and a bit more of the cleaner to take most of the remaining baked on residue off, then rinse with warm water.

The other time honoured method is to dump it in a crock pot with some antifreeze set on low heat overnight. You might want to buy a used crock pot to devote to engine cleaning. It might make eating the Sunday pot roast a bit risky.

I have a new Saito 180 and am in the process of breaking it in. When the engine is at idle sometimes it will cough and then the engine reverses itself (runs backwards). Is this problem because to the low idle adjustment is set rich for break-in? Will this problem go away once it’s broken in and I’ve set the low idle to a more lean adjustment?

If you have already ran it for ten minutes below 4000rpm on the extremely rich factory needle settings, then it is time to set HS and LS needles. You should peak the HS and then back it off a click or two, then lean the LS at idle very slowly until the engine rpm increases and then begins to die, back it off an 1/8th of a turn or so, set the idle to a reasonable level and you should be good to go. Make sure and use a tachometer to make the HS adjustments and go very slow when making the LS adjustments. Patience is key, it may take one or two full turns on the LS. Good luck and have fun.

Just so you know, some of these Saito's have the low speed needle very rich from the factory. I leaned mine 3-4 full turns befor I got it to where it needed to be. Now she purrrs

Since the two needles effect each other somewhat, I prefer to set the LS needle with the HS needle at absolute peak. That way you're less apt to overshoot the LS setting and up too lean. When this ocurrs you render the HS needle inneffective.

What does the power band of a Saito 125 look like? Peak RPM, Peak Torque? Of course different fuels and every other variable would affect the power curve, but what does it look like in general?

How do they rate the engine at 2.2 horse power? The RPM multiplied by some constant for a particular prop?

Mike, the 1.25 is not a revvy engine, its forte is midrange torque and quick acceleration.

That is an excellent way to describe the engine. You think it is revvy at lower throttle settings because it is so quick. It doesn't loaf around.

I have 2 62as, 3 82as and a 125, 1 of the 82s and the 125 are still in the box, the 62s are in a southerner major 84" span old timer and a chris foss wot4, the 82s are in a cmp cub and a chris foss acrowot. I do have other 4 strokes, 4 OS and 2 lasers and don't have any complaints with those at all.
Does anyone have any info on the 200 ti which I fancy for a 1/4 scale zlin 526 that I'm building, currently have an mds 218 to fit but I'm off 2 strokes.

i own a .80 golden knight and think they are the best thing going in rc and what got me started as well. When i heard my father in laws it sounded like my 70 cuda did. I have a os .65 la series but nothing compares to saito. Can i join the club?

Hi guys, I just bought a Saito 220 Zeuss High powered High cam series engine and was wondering if there is anything special I need to know about this engine as far as operation and break in? What does Zeuss mean and how much more powerful is this engine over the stock 220.

Sorry to disappoint but the 2.20s are all the same, the name Zeus never caught on. There is a large carb optin for $114.00 and now a gasoline version. Pictured is the crankcase pump for the large carb option. All Saitos are high cam since a long time ago.
