Now those look interesting. I have looked at the page but my browser will not open the home page, I will try another way.

Going back to the size issue, what are your thoughts??. This is the biggest engine I have owned so to under prop it would be worse than over proping which I dont realy have the room to do on the Spit,

Thanks for the help so far.

Hello everyone, I have a problem that I hope you all can help me with. I have a Saito 125 with only 6 flights on it swinging a 15x8 apc on a WM Petie 2nd with the stock retract gear and for some reason or other there are a few pilots at my feild that are just tearing me up in the skies with the same size planes ( P-47, Bearcat, and a Corsair). They seem to just blow past me like I am at half throttle. Is there something I am doing wrong or what ? Please HELP

Hobbsy,

If that is how they come , I think I have to have one !! I would just have to figure out what plane I would get it for , but it looks good !

On another not, just got a 82 used on RCU , went through it, cleaned it up a little , and it runs perfect. I might change out the 72 on my Yak, the put the 72 on my Stick. I also have a Twist 60 I was going to sell , I had a 100 for it and sold it. I was having a hard time trying to sell the Twist so I bought this 82 , now I'm not sure if I want to get rid of either one. I really need to stop doing this !!

Flyboy,

There are so many variables?

Did you try a APC 14-10?

To replace the prop drive flange - - - Remove the split collar from inside the drive washer if it is still in there. Slide the split collar onto the crankshaft up to the bearing. Slide the drive washer over the split collar, replace prop/nuts etc - tighten prop. That's it.

Ok so a guy at another site has a 220 that keeps breaking the Barrel guide bolt on the carb. From what I gather there is no spring in the carb.
What could be the culprit of this? He's been through 3 of them and they keep breaking 3/4 of the way down.

His throttle rod probably pulls out and/or pushes in on the throttle arm

w8ye, no I have not yet but if that will bring up the speed on this plane I will try anything you guys suggest. A couple of the guys at my feild suggested going to a higher grade fuel. I am using 15% cool power right now.

Flyboy
I know many Saito owners are running 30% heli fuel without any ill effects ( big power boost). One thing I would advise is, use a tach, check before and after you make the change of prop and fuel. Get that engine running SWEET. Usual set up, find max rpm then richen 200to300 rpm. Be sure NOT TO UNDER PROP.

Then, it would be a case of checking how heavy she is, if she's a fat bird not much will make her go faster apart from a diet, (not a crash one ).

If you go with the 30%, try to keep the castor content down as low as possible with higher synthetic, this will minimise cokeing. You will get a nice smoke trail from your Stang due to the higher oil content heli fuel.

Hi all. I just bought a Saito 1.15 for my GP DR1, and it does not come with a diagram as to how to plumb the crankcase ventilation nipple into the fuel tank. Should I just run some fuel line from the nipple to the underside of the cowl and let it breath and drain there, or is it designed to vent back into the fuel tank?

Thanks

Crank vents out into the air, it does NOT go back to the tank. Was just told the vent line can be up to 6 inches long, no more

Altitude will definately have an effect but your mates are flying at the elevation as you, and they are faster. I would keep the same prop size and change your fuel, that will demonstrate a direct conparison to the 15% Cool Power your using.

I would also take a peek at the set up of the other faster planes. There are a number of ways to squeeze more speed so start with the easyest, fuel, prop size/pitch/type, then wieght, remember, if you built her into a fat lady, lean her out.

Flyboy I'm new with my 125 and the first time I leaned it out it didn't really turn the 16x6 very well. After reading on here I tried tuning again. Mine started to drop revs and so I thought I was a max rev's but I wasn't. Turned out that one or two more clicks and she was picking up rev's again. Went another 5 clicks before she started dropping rev's again. I thought i was at max but I wasn't and I read that on this site. Just a thought. Good luck.

Vent line lenght is a subject of debate [:-] Ive seen em very long, and I have a couple of them very long my self.
I have not seen any performance drop from having the line longer then said.
I do run 5/8ths line though.

Smogs, I checked out the MA 16x10 3 blade and the 2.20 was not a happy camper

Saito 2.20
Fuel==WildCat 15%/18% lube
Prop==16x10 3 blade===rpm=7,300, engine mucho shaky
Prop==16x8 3 blade===rpm=8,350 engine happy, rpm right in its sweet spot.

Another question for the group: Anyone have a recommendation for where to send a Saito engine for repair? A friend has a vintage 2.70 that he'd like to send in for repairs. Horizon evidently wasn't helpful with regard to service (or parts).

Thanks in advance,
Paul
