How long Mike??

Best method I've seen ( and will do myself too ) is having the vent line 1/8" I/D going into a 35mm film canister with another tube out of that for any overflow. This'll should save the mess inside the cowl and the nessesity of having a long tube running out the plane.

The film canister is a good Idea.
Im running them up about 10" and I think I meant 5/32's on that last measurement [X(]
Did I say 5/8ths? Yeah that aint right.

I have a Saito 125 on a Frenzy 100 mounted inverted. The problem is flooding. My tank it a little higher than the centerline or needle. It can't be lowered because it will hit the wing or hangs down into wing saddle and the wing will not go on. This is my second Frenzy and with the first it ran rich but ran great. It did flood some right after fueling. I got to where I just put about 7/8 fuel in and left some space. This helped some now I am having a siphoning issue that I just can't seem to get a handle on. If I don't start it right away it floods the carb and will actually drain the tank. Any help?

RCV and OS engines have suggested running the breather lines as long as you like....or even to the muffler if desired. My buddy has an RCV and was worried because the manual states 2-3" max tubing on the breather. I told him to send an email to RCV and find out what the consequences are for longer breather line. The email reply stated that longer lines are not a problem and they plumb their own planes with the breather going to the muffler. I told my friend to send another email asking why they are scaring everyone with their 2-3" recommendations in their manual.....not sure if he did though

Here is the OS manual:

I am sure Saitos cannot be that much different

Going through too many glow plugs. Only getting about a jug of fuel out of each glow plug. Using Coolpower with 15% nitro. I think I am running rich enough as when I tilt the aircraft on full power, no noticeable drop in rpm. Running an FA-80 with OS-F glow plugs. New to this hobby and not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks!

I'd have to recommend a cline pressure regulator for your problem here.... with the cline the engine only draws fuel when it needs it, plus you could mount your tank nearly anywhere else.

I'd also recommend it for any aerobatic plane too, as it will supply fuel to the last drop in any attitude.

I'm not a hugely experienced flyer, but I know a great thing when I come across it and this is one.

Thanks guys for the vent line info....

cervelott,

I too, run the cool power 15% fuel and hardly ever have a bad plug. Follow the normal tuning procedures and then check the verticle tilt on the plane. You may be too rich and fowling them out.

Hi all . I am new to the saito family(kinda) i have a saito 150 in a Sig 4-star 120 it flies it OK Idles awesome but the top end is slobbery and definitely not smooth, it coughs spits and slobbers all over the place at full throttle. high speed needle makes no difference either too rich or to lean there is no happy medium running a 16x8 prop apc. the engine is about 5 years old but only has about 1 gallon of fuel ran through it, mom got sick and then the wife so i took about 4 years off from flying , moms gone wifes good now and I'm flying again so i want this 350 dollar motor to run so i done throw it away!. . any ideas or suggestions would be great.!

Thanks a lot in advance.

The problem could be caused by a number of things.

How old is your fuel? Was the container ever opened before it was stored? If it was stored and is old?

Saito, and other brand, four-stroke engines need special four-stroke glow plugs. The Saito four-stroke plug and the OS Type-F are among the best in the world for four-stroke engines.

Have you ever adjusted your valve clearances since new? This could easily be the problem if they have not been readjusted since initial run-in.

Something as simple as having your low speed mixture set too rich (factory setting is too rich) can inhibit the high speed needle's ability to lean out the mixture without abruptly quitting. Fire it up, set to idle and then see how much leaner you can make the low speed carb setting. Then open the throttle and readjust the high speed mixture. Surprise! Chances are this will help the situation considerably.

Write back and tell us what solved your problem. Good luck.

Having trouble finding any listings on horizon hobby for the older 90t twin replacement parts.
Definitely need rings. Was thinking new valves and springs. Bearings feel good when spinning by hand but at least (2) will be replaced. Should I also replace the vane pump bearing, even if it feels good? Should I replace or recondition anything else on this 90t?
Pushrods and cams will be thoroughly inspected as will be the cylinders. I want this engine to stay together for quite some time.

Big-Mo:

I don't know if the 150 carb comes with a velocity stack on it but if it doesn't have one, I would put a velocity stack on it. This will help prevent the spitting of fuel. I put a velocity stack on a FA-91 and a FA-100 and this definitely helped and only cost about $5 per stack which I got paid back in fuel efficiency.

I think 24 oz is the usual size for the 180? It uses 2 OZ / minute at full throttle
How many turns out is your high speed needle?? My 32oz tank lasted less than ten minutes, and I wasn't at full throttle much at all. My 180 has now had nearly 2gal thru it, and I'm swinging a Master Airscrew Classic 18x6.

My tach is broke by the way.

Beav, you need to work on your LS needle some if its burning that much fuel, it should burn about half that much.

Is the velocity stack for the big blocks larger in diameter?

I wonder if that one can be jury-rigged to work on the 100?
