I guess the vibration was because it was hard mounted to my stand. It is still alittle juicy but that front bearing is leaking like crazy! Any suggestions?

My experience with the rubber sealed bearings is that some of them do not fit tight at all, In fact. you can see light through them.

I don't know if they were this way from the factory or is it the result of heat applied to the crankcase to insert the bearing.

I have a 56 that is juicy out the front since I put new bearings in it. In fact it is the second set. Two years ago I put bearings in it and you could see light under the seal lips.
So last winter I put another set in it and while I don't see light under the seal lips, the engine blows a lot of oil out the front. Now I've used the devil out of it. Run a 13-4 APC and s turbo header. It really hasn't changed any in two years. It was a used 56 I bought at a swap meet so other than me giving it the business for two years I don't know much about it. It may have always been juicy?

well, thanks for the everything couldn't have done it without this forum! I sent a email to rc bearings about this becuase it is rather irritating that I have a beautiful plane and don't need it covered in oil.

Back about 5 years ago I came across two well used first edition Saito 91S engines from different parts of the country. I had to rebuild both of them.

One blew oil out the front bearing and the other didn't. I always used the "wet" one. It ran mighty good but sprayed oil out the front. The bearings came from the same place.

Sometimes it seems the bearing seat in the front of the crankcase gets a little loose, for perhaps a variety of reasons. I just know that mine did, and I sent angry emails to the bearing company. They never replied so I presumed they agreed it was their fault that my engine leaked oil and I had some axial play when the engine was hot.

One day I 'shimmed' the front bearing with aluminum foil and ran the engine. No oil and no axial play when hot. The aluminum foil did not last long and it leaked again.

I crashed the plane and broke the carb mounting tab. I bought a new crankcase and the bearing was surprisingly more snug in the front and no oil and no axial play.

Locktite and others make compounds to seat or in fact lightly glue a bearing into wherever you're inserting it. It is not permanently glued. I'd have a look at something like that to try instead of the aluminum foil. It should last a long time.

I'm one of those that likes to shop around... I have two O.S. thumpers (52 and 70U/pumped), a YS 110 and as of yesterday a FA82a Saito. I might add that all of these engines came to me (slightly) used from the same original owner.

Often, soft mounts create more problems with the engine's running than they help in dampening airframe vibration

If you boys wanna get rich, try selling your old saitos on Ebay. They go for about the same price as brand new ones.

A much smaller engine (.91); I am still finishing the plane, but have a soft mount on the stand now and it will be going in the plane. Feels good on the stand and hoping for similar results in the air...

No expert opinion however, just what I am seeing so far. Your mileage may vary.....

Some of those were "buy it now's" but the ones that were bids - there would be like 20 bids.

There was one 150 or 180 that was bid up higher than the buy it now price.

Hey Saito Guys,

Anyone out there know how to hook up a Saito pump to a 180? I have a Sundowner and the motor has a hard time keeping the fuel in the line. I got the complete pump kit from Horizon, but they have no instuctions. It is the kit with the needle valve assy, the check valve and the 3 way line connector (I don't know what that is for) and works off the tank pressure line. Anyone have a schematic on how to hook up the lines? Thanks!

We could tell you how to hook it up but the best advice is that you will be chasing your tail to no end trying to get that contraption to work.

Buy yourself a Perry VP20 and bolt it down to the back plate of the Saito and you will have more peace of mind.

You could use the Saito contraption to pressurize the tank so you could use a Cline or Iron bay type regulator. It works well that way.

Jim, you and Dar have the only two Saitos I ever parted with, willingly that is, I smashed a .72 into a concrete rode at Ft. Belvoir and lost a brand new .62 in the woods at Andrews ABF.

Yes paul i think the same.Had a 62 on a soft mount and smooth as silk with no driveshaft or prop wobble.Upgraded and fitted an 82 on a hard mount.I'm an instant balance your prop convert mate

Can you guys tell me if i go to 25% or 30 heli fuel do i need to reset my low and hi adjustments. Spent some time today setting my 115 up with the cowl off my cub and did not want to put it on if have to readjust. Running 15 cool power

You will definitely need to open the high speed and highly likely the low speed also.

If you do not have clearance you may have to run a 11-7 or 8

For vertical performanxe I use a 13-4
