Just got my first Saito it's the new 125. I use Omega in my other 4 strokes but think I would like to add a little more castor just for extra protection during breakin. How much can I add without hurting performance.

Adding four ounces of castor oil to a gallon of 15% Omega gives you 132 ounces total mix, and the nitro % is down only to 14.55%. If you start with 20% nitro it drops to 19.39% in the final mix.

Hello Fellows great thread, I bought a Satio 125 for a Funtana 90 moved the fuel tank back against the wing tube about 3.5 to 4 inches from the front of the engine box. I don't know if I would need a pump or not. Any info on this would be appreciated thanks.

You probably will need a pump, but give it a try first.

With the tank almost empty set the mixture, then point the plane straight up and see what happens. If it runs OK with the nose up, then without changing the needle settings fill the tank and try it again, level, nose up, and nose down. If it runs fine all ways fly it and see how it goes.

But as I said, you'll probably have to use a pump with the tank that far back. Do yourself a favor, forget the CG change, mount the tank forward.

As the Stargazer said, the VP-20 works fine.

My personal preference is the VP-30, but the -30 needs a bit of jiggery-pokery to connect, not needed with the VP-20.

So cool, a Saito club! I run a number of them myself. I started with the new model .30 (Speedy Bee), then bought the .60 twin (Big Lazy Bee) then really took the plunge and bought the .90 radial (Bohemia Velie Monocoupe) and also a .91S (lightened Great Planes DR1) and to round things out, found a NIB open rocker .30 mk2! (Lazy Bee). I am now putting a .45 on the nose of a Panda to use as a trainer.
I run only 30% heli fuel with full synth oil. just like Horizon suggests. It is wondeful stuff, but I still need on-board glow for the twin and radial. I also run O.S., Webra, Magnum and H.P. four strokes, (have yet to try Y.S. or Enya) but find the Saito engines to be in a class by themselves!

They are your engines, you do as you please. The 30% nitro wont hurt anything, but I consider it a needless expense.

I strongly disagree with your all synthetic oil though. I've seen too many cam lobes worn off to be happy without an amount of castor oil in the fuel mix.

Ok, castor is cheaper than cams! Would adding one once to a gallon help, or would you go two or three?

Add four ounces per gallon. I don't know which heli blend you're using, but if it is, say, 20% oil to start here's the mix:

Hi there,

I wonder if I qualify :-)

I've bought the old .40 and .45 in the 80ties, when Tower was still carrying Saito. The .40 is still in a 72" Krick-Klemm 25 and flown occasionally, the .45 is waiting for it's next plane. On newer Saito's I got a 1.80 in a 81" P51 and a new .72 and a 3.0 Twin new in the box.

I just got back from B.A.R.K.S. swap meet in Burlingtton,N.C. I was looking for a Saito for my sons LT40. We didn't find a used one so we left and went to K.C.'s Hobby in Archdale and picked up a new .56 I ran 3 10 oz tanks through it this afternoon and it is really nice. I started with a 12x6 apc. I have run OS fourstrokes and YS , this is my first Saito and I like it. What prop would anyone recomend for a Sig LT 40 that will be flown from grass. It is going to be a taildragger so it will have more prop clearence.

For casual sport flying everyone uses a 12-6 on the 56.

If you don't have the clearance, a 11-7 or 8 will do.

I re-entered R/C a little over a year ago with an LT-40 powered by a Saito .50. It was flown from a rough grass field and was tricycle-geared. I flew it with both 12/6's and 11/8's. The plane was easier to fly (for a beginner) with the 12/6. Both propellers were Master Airscrew wooden. The plane could have used just a bit more power, the .56 will probably be very nice. I have found the Saitos to be very nice engines..quiet, efficient, beautifully manufactured, and dead-reliable. Just break it in and tune it properly.

i have one of the new 1.25's... (could be the first one in Oz!!)
i am installing it in an Excelleron90 (inverted).
Has anyone run one of these new motors inverted yet? Today i did the first rich runs as per the book... mixture screw 5 turns out (blubberingly rich) and ran for 10 mins or so at around 4000rpm.
I ran it again and leaned it out a bit further and kept increasing the rpm gradually. Prop is an APC 16x7 (is this ok?) till it got to 8500 but i didnt leave it there for long... i think there is a little more leaning out to do but i will do if after installing in my plane.

I am curious to see what the inverted running is like so i can determine if i have to mount an on-board glow or not...

hi my name is shawn. i have always had 2 stroke i am now looking at a new saito 120 but here is the stupid part. how do you ? fire up the glow plugs since there under covers

It's a pity your parents didn't know how to spell Sean, but there are many others who have the same problem.

What makes you think the Saito plugs are covered? Picture is an FA-72, but it's typical of all the Saito engines.
