Here is a audio file of a Saito 82 on the Horizon web site [link=http://www.horizonhobby.com/ProdInfo/articles/1706-2cylinder.mp3]Audio Link[/link]

There is something wrong about the way one of the needle valves is set?

Can we discuss this?

Now some brilliant soul is going to notice the URL saying it is a 2 cyl but that is a miss label on Horizon's part. Pay no attention to it.

G'day W9YE. The 90TS is currently bolted into an ARF Sig Kadet Senior. I will use this plane to get to know how the engine works and it should be more than enough to fly the Kadet. (I have flown Kadets before with an early OS FS 40 - that was fun - it would take off like a B-17 with a full bomb and fuel load. Very gentle.) I have run the 90TS and it seems to be a very easy to handle engine. First flick starts (with the finger), smooth as silk and more than enough power for what I am going to do with it. The only down side is the position of the carby and the linkages to it which are rather cramped behind the engine.

And yes - it sounds wonderful especially at idle. Sounds just like a real Cessna engine.

There is a Saito extension available for the throttle on the 60T and 90TS that extends the arm out to the left side of the left engine mount.

G'day Thanks for that. I had designed the same thing in my head. I will try to buy one but Horizon sometimes won't supply to people in Australia and the local agents here don't carry all the accessories.

Jim, my .90TS and .90 triple seem to have come with that extension already in place.

Mike, here are a couple of shots of the .90TS on a Joss Stik with which Jim might be familiar.[8D]

The TurboHeaders require romoving the cylinder bolts and pulling the cylinders oput about 1/2 inch to get them on without the 90 degree adapters. If using the 90 degree adapters the THs just screw right on. AN extra shot of the TurboHeaders with the 90 degree adapters turned inboard, they can also be mounted outboard.

His high end seems too low to me but tough to to be sure without seeing the exhaust. Soft blip acceleration maybe. I'd have to say lean out the low speed at what I know at this point.

You mean you didn't hear the beginning of pre-ignition as he blipped the throttle from idle? It was coming awful close to throwing the prop.

Jim, I'm getting ready to build a USAircore Colt 40 so I got out my new Saito FA40A I got from MM37 a few months ago. I did a write up on it then. I see Horizon is selling it again, if anyone searches for it there you have to specify FA40A, I searched for 40a with no results.

Saito FA .40A
Prop==Bolly 10.5x6
Fuel==WildCat 15% with 18% 80/20 syn/castor blend
Plug==Fox miracle
RPM absolute max 10,513, two clicks rich in picture
Idle==in picture.

That makes me want a FA40A. I have a Ace kit to put it in.

Jim, do you have an ACE 440 for it, that would be perfect.

I cannot think of the name right this minute but it is smaller than a 4-40.

It is a low wing open cockpit inverted engine plane.

G'day Thanks for the photos of the 90TS in the Joss Stik. You are definitely pushing me towards some Turboheaders. I think I would use the 90 degree adaptors as well to facilitate fitting and to make the eventual positioning more flexible. I like the extension too. I just wonder it if is a Horizon part or a Saito part and whether I will be able to buy it here. Hope I can. Mike.

Which extension are you talking about?

The throttle extension isw supposed to come on your new 90TS. If it doesn't you can order it from Horizon

Did I ever tell you guys how much I love my saito 120s? I took it out yesterday on my showtime. It has not been started for about three months. I put fuel in it that was left over from the last flight. Flipped it over with the ole electric starter. She fired right up. The glow plug in her came with it when I bought it a year ago on a well know auction site. Boy you sure can't beat that!
I just love it.

G'day W8YE. Sadly, the Australian importer of Saitos does not include the extension with either the 90R3 or the 90TS so I will have to try to get one from Horizon. Thanks for the part number. I will have a go. If that fails, it is off to do some begging from friends who have lathes. Mike

PS If I were an amateur radio operator here in Oz, I would have a call sign like VK2MIK. The VK is Australia, the 2 is New South Wales and the MIK is the actual station licence number.

I think you may find a away to hook up the throttle without the extension once you get the engine?

If you need to, I can measure mine and give you the dimensions.

The 8 is Michigan, Ohio, & West Virginia

G'day

I already have the 90TS engine. I have already put it into my ARF Kadet Senior and I routed the push rod high in the centre of the nose and took it past the engine then bent it down and back to the throttle lever. It seems to work OK like this but it is not very elegant. I am just now debating how I will mount it in the Goldberg Anniversary Cub I am building. I suspect I will pull it out of the Kadet tomorrow and try fitting it to the not quite complete fuse so that I can work out where to put the throttle servo. I am going to use two elevator servos to avoid having to join the halves with dowel. My old Goldberg Cub (about 5 years old) has gradually acquired a twist between the two halves of the elevator and I want to avoid this with the new one.

My only real close encounter with amateur radio was when I was 15 and had just joined Senior Scouts (now called Venturers). I attended a Jamboree of the Air event and spoke to someone in the US. The station I was calling from was VK2ALB but I have no idea who the operator was. It was a really horrible night and my friends and I walked about 10 miles home in torrential rain. No wonder I never forgot it.

I was in my mid 30's before I got my License. I got all of them in about 1 1/2 yrs. Every year around here they have field day where the amateur's go out more or less camping and try to talk al around. It's usually about the 3rd week end in June. (Saturday & Saturday night)

Enjoy your new twin.

Yes it can, and the best part is that it sounds like a big engine while doing it. Little 4 strokes don't sound little.
