Hi All:

Just wnat to give my thanks to the Saito Repair Team at Hoirzon! Sent them a Saito .80, some years old that got fire and gas but would not run. The engine was returned in less tha two weeks with new high and low needlevalves with new "O" rings, new golw pulg, new bearings and prop adapter. No invoice was included! Great work and thanks!

TurboHeaders are on the way for my twin 100s. Thanks RC Specialists. Here is my line up at this past Sundays Fly in. The Navy Cub - Saito 72, the AT6 - Saito 91, and of course, the P-38 with twin Saito 100s.

We did, and everything came home in tact. Always a good day. There were many pilots and planes as the weather was perfect. Two giant scale planes were totalled, and my P-38 was nearly added to that list, were it not for those reliable Saito 100s. I had to abort a landing gone long, and with only about 30 ft of runway left, the left main on the ground, and the flaps fully deployed, those 2 Saitos went to full power on a dime together, and pulled my P-38 out of harms way again. The day before, I had fixed a nagging fuel leak in the port system, and done a little fine tunning while I had the cowls off. It paid off.

There's a full-scale P-38 here at Lackland Air Force Base up on a pedestal. It's always been one of the most interesting and exciting WW-II planes to me. Sometimes I go there just to walk around it and stare up at it. What a Banshee those speed demons must have been.

I'll admit I've avoided the P-38 as a project due to the fickle twin engine situation. I'm really glad your Saitos pulled you through and did for you what Saitos do so well. Makes me think about maybe having a P-38 some day.

The other day I had a gust of wind drift me over near the fence at a narrow flying field, and like your experience, I throttled it up and away she flew for a go-around. Saito 100's ROCK....

Go for it. Twins are an exciting challenge and Saito relieves a lot of the anxiety. A quick bump of the starter on each, and they are running till I shut them down. I love it.

The Nitro Planes P-38 is very forgiving even after some 9 lbs of scale detail added to it. It has a wing with extra lift built in (not a scale airfoil). Dave Platt says "make it fly well first", and NP did on this 38.

Dave Platt was right. I can't imagine how fast and squirrelly that sucker would be with scale airfoils and, say, something like twin .91 2-strokes.

Pretty plane, by the way. I forgot to openly drool over it on the last post. Probably latent jealousy or something like that.....

I'm from Maine, actually. What they call big trees here we call shrubs in Maine..... Snakes are pretty big, though, and the Tarantulas are pretty big too.

I caught this guy the other day, the photos are not good but you'll get the idea of his size at least. It's called a Rhino beetle, supposed to be the strongest creature on earth for its size. I believe it. That's my knee he's sitting on, by the way.

I named him Rosco. Turns out Rhino beetles are raised all over the world as PETS! They live three years. They eat other bugs, like earthworms.....

And I think a .30 would probably do him just fine, he's got some wing to fly on. He's got the flight characteristics of a GeeBee.

I had a nice .30 still in its box, they stole it when they robbed my house. Never got to experience it.

In the picture with the blue background, the beetle appears to have been cast in bronze the way the light shines on it.

He was standing on our hammock on the back porch in the late evening sun. he's actually a deep, deep red, almost a black-red.

From what I can tell reading about them online, the south, southwest, and places like India all seem to be the climate they like.

I've never seen one this big.

G'day Saito lovers everywhere.

My Saitos have been quiet lately. I've been in Europe. I looked in vain for hobby shops but I did manage to find some related things on my tour.

I noted that English Summer weather can be very good for model flying. It was mostly fine, calm and warm. So warm that the locals were calling it a heat wave.

But my greatest discovery was near Cambridge, about an hour north east of London. As we pulled into the car park of the Imperial War Museum (Duxford), two Spitfires roared past in close formation. I dragged out the camera and took a few in-expert photos. The sound of two Merlins was truly inspiring.

The aircraft collection is pretty amazing too. Standing inside Concorde 101 (the British pre-production prototype) was creepy. This thing had been to Australia (and I think I saw it), and still holds the record for the fastest crossing of the Atlantic by a passenger carrying aircraft at just under three hours. 101 is full of test gear but does have several rows of seats which give the idea of what it was like to fly in Concorde. It is about the same size as the Dash 8 we flew in from Sydney to Dubbo but longer.

If you are heading to the UK and you like aeroplanes (and you would not be here if you did not), Duxford is a Must.
