Extend it and run it down one of the undercarriage legs mate..or just trim the plane really bad, that helps a lot.

Was at a local fly-in over the week end. A H9 AT6 was flown nicely with a Saito 100, right up till he hit one of the runway landing lights with the right wing while attempting a full power low pass down the runway[]. The fuselage traveled over 100 ft after the strike (where the guy in the red shirt is, the pilot). That Saito was cookin.

I have a Saito 1.20 and I'm have a hard time with it. Have several questions so please answer by number.

1) What rpm is the max it should turn, 16X8 zinger prop with power master 15% fuel,
this engine has new bearings and a new piston ring and o-rings valve lash .003

2)What is the low rpm (idle) it should run

3)The low rpm that it will go and still increase rpm smoothly is 2600 to 2750

4)The max rpm is 7400 to 7550

I would think it shoud turn at 9000 to 9500 rpm and idle at 2500 to 2600, been thinking that I might have the cam
retarded 1 tooth thats for low rpm and fair idle

A 16x8 is too much prop for a 1.20 non YS engine. Even the YS 1.20's might have a difficult time with a 16x8 without lots and lots of nitro. Try a 16x6 or a 15x8.

FWIW, the YS120, 16x8 APC and 30% CoolHeli are about as perfect a combination as I've ever run.

I am loving my new Saito FA 40a. It is swinging a 12x4 APC on a Mini FuntanaX with 4 ounce fuel tank. It sips the fuel and it provides unlimited vertical while doing it.
I will try to find a lighter wood prop that can spool up faster, but if not, I will still be ecstatic.

Hey Mike, I bought this .40a from MM37 a couple of years ago, here it is pictured beside my newest .30. The .40a is more powerful than you'd think. My older .30 is in the background, I loaned it to Bill Robison for his Saito Notes and he sent it back with the blackened cylinder, by his secret method.

After I crash my Mini FuntanaX, I will put the 40a into a Great Planes Combat Corsair.
This engine is becoming my favorite Saito.

Nice 'Stang there Phantom4, good throaty roar from your fg-36!

What are you using for your lighting system? the wing tip lights look really bright in the vid. I lit a Cmp 40 size Cessena 182 with Phillips LumiLeds rebel K2's. The greens are 100lux (lumins) and the reds are 85lux @ 3.5v 750Ma, but they don't seem anywhere close to the intensity of yours. Oh yeah, almost forgot the really important part...Saito FA-62 inverted, straight header, no silencer. flys great at 1/3-1/2 throttle.

i think, this gas engine isnot enough power for the new funtana 125...you mentioned saito125...it's ok but fg 20 can not produce the same energy...this is my own opinion but im sure there are others...

happy landing

I thought the fg20 was a 115 with a shim to lower compression?

Thanks for help.
I would like to thank NM2K for the sugestion he gave me on my Saito 1.20. I went with a APC 15X8 prop, idle rpm is 2400 to 2500
top end is 8700 to 8800 rpm the reason that I did not think of the prop size was I am about the third owner of this plane and engine and this is what was used by everyone else. The APC 15X8 weights at 3.20 oz. and the Zinger 16X8 at 1.65 oz. I think the reason for the lower rpm (was weight)( fly wheel affect) but you think that it would turn more rpm for lighter weight but it works so thank you ED.

I'm pretty sure it's a 1.25 but that could be wrong.

Default RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I had an inline sullivan "crap trap" trap on my line from the tank to the motor on my FA-82 and thought that was causing my low end to die after about 20 second at idle.

Now with a straight tube from the tank to the engine I am having even more! My engine will die immediately when I pull the glow driver off it is less than half throttle stick. It will run with the driver on however at low end. So, I have taken the driver off and set the high end, about 9100 rpm. Then back down to the low end and it dies every time about 5000-6000rpm. I have set the low end needle back to factory settings, nearly flush with the throttle arm, then moved out a quarter turn at a time. I have gotten to at least 4-5 full turns out and no luck. I pulled the glow plug and it seems ok, I am running an OS "F" plug. This motor has about 2 gallons of 15% fuel through it. Any ideas?

Hi obriend.
I was just perusing the thread and saw your problem with the 82. It sounds like you are too rich on the low end and, I'm not sure if it's just a typo or not, but instead of turning the LSN "out" as you stated, you will want to turn the LSN 'in' (i.e. clockwise, not counterclockwise) from the factory position.
Good luck!
