STG:

The Horizon listing says the FA-100 is a 1.10, but running the (also listed) 1.14 bore and rthe 1.02 stroke gives me a total of 1.04 ccid. Your results may vary, but not much.

Bill.
So it is bigger than 100 then. [&:]

i am mounting a saito 125 on a Hangar nine 1/4 scale 100inch cub. Have any ideas on what a good prop size would work. I will be using wildcat 30 heli fuel as i do on my saitos. I was thinking a 16/8 apc or similar prop??

16x6apc, 17x6 apc or Skorepa

I run a 16x5 on my SA100 in the low 8's (on 15% with a little castor). I only go to full throttle for brief periods as the plane weighs only 6.5 pounds--everything else is at low throttle settings.
The plane 3D's and IMAC's so much nicer with a 16"prop.

Torque, I really didn't need to see that bench set up. I mean... really. I use a block of 4 x 4 wood and clamp it to a table, while you have... well, a pluperfect, adjustable motor mount with hex head bolts, even. I'll bet ya could mount a 10 horse Honda 4 stroke boat motor right there.

Huh!

STG, the SIMPLE answer is "Yes, it's bigger." If you read Bill Robison a while, you'll be able to lose the dictionary and fictionary, and maybe the intuitive guide to his universe, but be patient. Bill is a great asset here, once you can translate. Oh, you'll need an engineering degree, too.

He's old, too, but ugly. Yet, there is no alternative to loving him. Ask his wife. Uh, well, maybe not. Ask his DAUGHTER.

Jack,

That stand is a bit much, isn't it?

I usually just nail my engines down to the deck railing and bend over the nails. 10D is a nice nail for the smaller mills. 16D galvanized are perfect for the .90 and up. The hammer is usually right on hand if I'm working with engines....

Desmobob, now THAT'S a test motor mount I can understand. I knew I liked you for some reason. By the way, is that a standard carpenter's hammer, 480 grams, or can you get away cheap, with a ballpeen hammer, 240 grams, or maybe a brick (I don't know the weight); Bill will know)? 8 penny nails or 10 penny? I need to know.

That's why I said he should consider "Fancy Test Stand" as a username.

8d or 10d nails? neither. He's very conservative, and naturally wants it to last forever. When he built it he had me get his fasteners, the nails are titanium 16d size, with a hex socket head and threaded shanks. He used his 380 gram hammer (that was speial order too) to start them, and then seated them with a Chicago Pneumatic model 725 air impact wrench.

Haw.

Just teasing, Dave.

Bill.

Whatever hammer is closest is always the best hammer! If there's more than one within reach, the biggest one's clearly best. I like the one I got for $1.97 at the 'Mart. It has an out-of-square, slightly convex face that automatically bends the nails over for you by the third or fourth whack.

If your thumbnail is blackened and your thumb swollen from mounting engines to the test rail, you have an excuse for pulling hard "up" during that low, full-throttle inverted pass.... "Must be nerve damage! I can't control my d*mn thumb!"

Any nail that fits through the engine mount holes will work. Screws, too! My father was not a very mechanical kind of guy. I always remember him putting up some shelves in the garage when I was a kid. He had an old coffee can full of assorted nails, screws, bolts, etc. If he didn't have a nail that looked right, he didn't have any problem pounding in a wood screw instead. [X(]

Desmobob, I love you. My FATHER loves you. My DOG loves you. [Don't ask about the cat.]

The jury is still out on Bill Robison--with the dog, ONLY. And I don't dare INFORM the CAT about Bill, yet.

All:

Tired of searching for an answer? You think it was there, but now you can't find it? well, help is on the way so long as you have room and aren't too busy to look.

I've decided to open my "Saito Notes" file to anyone who would like a copy. 99% is copies of posts on RCU and other sites, if I've posted it in the last couple years it should be here. There is no organization, but each section has a prominent header for a fast scan looking for a topic.

It's in Microsoft "Word" format, most text editors will read it with no problem. 70 KB file size, approx 20 pages.

If you'd like a copy PM your email address, I'll send it.

Bill.

Thanks Jack... it's good to feel loved! she may be the test pilot when I maiden my CMP P-40E the new Saito 1.50 is going in.

To keep things on topic -Saito- AND to try to one-up Torque on the fancy-smancy test stands, get a look at THIS bad boy!

This is my first model engine test stand. Guess what it's made from? My father's old shoe-shine box!!! I put bricks in the side "pockets" and mounted a fuel tank on top. An adjustable engine mount is screwed to the end (and I did use a screwdriver to put the screws in; how's that for high-tech!)

Read 'em and weep, Torque Wrench!

I'm having too much silly fun with this thread. I better go to bed!

Good flying,
desmobob

Bob, I already like Lucy, and I think she'd make a great test pilot for sure. I have an idea: we have this resident MOUSE on the first floor, leaving small, black bullets on my wife's laundry. Fanny, our cat, can't seem to find the handle on this mouse. [Yes, Bill, ANYthing could beat Fanny.]

Why not I catch this vagrant mouse, put him under the canopy with Lucy and see what happens? I'll bet we won't even have to add nitro to get that Twist off the ground.

What say?

Oh, for Kmot, who loves to hear who flew and how, Downtrodden and I flew into the last minutes of light tonight, a 10 mph east wind, cross to the road. I spent the morning on a buddy cord with a flyer who bought my Model Tech Magic. He did well--without worry of planting the Magic, his first 3D plane. I DID get in a couple flights with the Katana V2, but not with the Twist, which I was saving for time with Downtrodden in the afternoon.

What Downtrodden doesn't know (and don't tell him) is that I flew the Twist OS .61 again after he left. The wind had died to nothing, and I just couldn't stop myself from going up one more time, hovering and inverted spinning forever, into that sunset sky, pink clouds. I had to get up 200 feet before the yellow and purple shimmered in the sunset sky.

Without any wind, she landed hot on the snow-covered pond--and ran toward the road, much further than planned by this expert pilot, hit a clump of snow-plow ice/snow with the port wing, broke the nylon screw, and the wing dropped off, the engine still running. She sat there, idling, as if saying, "How do I get up again without my wing?"

I cracked the ply brace next to the wing support. CA and baking soda fixed her this evening. She's ready for tomorrow--and some videos which we hope to share with you all soon. You guys REALLY have to see what Downtrodden can do with a Twist.

Y'all sleep well, sleep fast. Tomorrow is another Twist-flying day, if you're lucky.

Jack

Update and questions...

I now have a 91, two 120s and a 125

The cowl with the 91 is a mess! Check my selections to see if I got it right:
Velocity stack for the 91 and 125? http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...odId=SAI50GK93
Filter for all of them? http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...?ProdId=BRU204

Thanks for the help. Bill did you ever show how to make the velocity stacks?
I should be breaking in the 125 soon, it's going in the CG Ultimate when construction is done.

The velocity stack is correct for a 91 and possibly a 125

When mounting the 125 inverted at a 45 degree angle, where (vertically) should the fuel tank be mounted? With the mid-line even with the carb openning at the base of the proposed velocity stack?
