I think I finally got my 450 running right today (or very close to it).

It was flooding out above half throttle, no matter whether the on-board glow was on or off. No matter what I did to the high-end needle.

So, I set the on-board glow to shut off at half throttle, and wound up opening up the Low End needle about a turn. This made me lean up the high-end about the same for a good idle. It was now transitioning very well, and maintaining a decent sound when the glow shut off. I was able to tune it for the high-end, so now it has a good idle and good response through the entire throttle range.

I never would have imagined that the low end was lean... but it looks like it was.

Anyway, it's too cold and windy to try any flying today, but hopefully this weekend the weather will improve.

I have a question. I have an OS 160 twin and I have a saito 180. The 160 says it can swing up to a 20x6 prop acording to the manual. The 180 says it can only swing an 18x6 prop. Why do they say a saito 180 cant turn a 20x6 prop and it is a little bigger? Just out of curiosity, what would be the worst thing that could happen if you put a 20x6 prop on a saito 180?

My Saito 2.20 turns a 20x6 at 9,150, the 1.80 rpm would be a little low. What is the 1.60 rpm turning the 20x6?

I havent really run either yet. I bought the 180 slightly used off of a fellow club member and it has sat on the shelf waiting to go in my airplane, and the 160 I bought brand new off of a guy that was switching to electric in another club.

The airplane I am putting the saito 180 on really doesnt need the power of a 180 but it could probably benifit from a slightly larger prop just for cowl clearance. so even if the 180 drops some RPM's I dont believe it would matter too much on this particular plane.

I put a set of OS "F" plugs in my Saito 450 today, and I think that finally cured all of it's evil habits! It started immediately, and once I had a decent idle set, it would quickly go through the entire throttle curve, had better high-end, and transitioned without hesitation. I needed to richen up the high end just a little, and lean up the low end about a half-turn... but after that, it went through several starts, stops, throttle cycles, etc... what a GREAT sounding motor!

Now I've got to get it in the air... but it's snowing outside, and I'm going to New York on Sunday for most of next week. Always something!

Oh, by the way, these things CAN start with the glow system turned OFF!...... I cut my motor off, had the glow system switch on the radio off, and was going to give it a few flips to get some fuel in for the next start... cranked right up! I'm glad it was tied down. I choked the throttle down and chaulked that one up as a lesson learned... if the plugs are hot enough... the fuel will igninte!

I've got a Xoar laminated 22x10... but I'll probably go to a 12 pitch once it's broken in.

I've also got a Bolly carbon fiber 23x10 that I could use for it, but it wouldn't look very scale.

Hi there, been a Saito fan for many years and I am wondering if anyone here has seen or has a Saito FA 80 T Twin engine ? have an old one and I cant even remember how I ended up with to be honest. I am putting it in a Goldberg Cub as I am sure it will be a good match. I have ran the engine and I have to say, it is a sweetheart but not a real powerhouse, no biggy to me because the cool factor of a little twin makes it a real jewel to me. I just have never ever seen or heard of another one!!! I find that odd but this seems to be the place to talk about it. I currently am flying a Saito .50 on a Kadet (plenty of power) and have a Saito .80 with low hours looking for an Astro hog kit (whole other story) and I just got a new 1.25 Golden Knight. I litteraly wore out an old Saito 1.20 on an old Dalotel years ago what a sweet runner! I like the idea of being a Saito Club member and I have my AMA (173008) how do I join up?

Hi, I have a saito 1.00 and would like to program a 9 pt throttle curve on my TX for this engine. Does anyone have any advice on what percentages they use on the various points or have done this in the past. Thanks

I havn't run a curve but have used a bunch of expo on the throttle. Worked pretty good I thought. I still have it that way. Makes the throttle response more linear.

Yah thats exactly what I am looking for. It seems the engine had 3 speeds with my old TX last yr, the new one has curves that I can set up so I want to give it a try..

I've done other curves but not for the throttle. I always thought I would find the 50% throttle point with a tach, and adjust the curve to match center of the throttle stick position. I would then adjust a few points from there........
