17 x 8 if you can find it. Otherwise get a 18 X 8

I've seen 16 X 8's on them but they turn up a lot of RPM.

Thanks for the recommendations w8ye, just noticed your signature block. I almost received the mangled hand award today starting this 1.80. Last time I use my hand to crank this thing. Turned out alright though, may have broken my index finger down next to the tip. But that’s alright; I'll just baby that finger for a few days. Not the first time I broke the tip of a finger. Spent 25 years in armor with the military, fingers are kinda used to the abuse. At least I still have all of them.

These 4 strokes have a bad tendency to kick backwards, even start backwards. The kick backs could easily break a finger. I learned the hard way too on my 450.... now I only start it with a chicken stick. Last time I was starting it, I guess there was too much fuel in the cylinders on my first flip, the engine kicked backwards very hard, and the other side of my prop hit the chicken stick... took a chunk out of the prop. Glad that wasn't a finger, but it did cost me a $30 prop.

Hey Reyn, it's better that the chichen stick looks like this than your fingers. This Davis Diesel Jumbo Chicken Stick is now 20 years old.

Yep, I got the Davis Diesel model also... but not the jumbo, it wasn't available.

W8YE... any feeling in those fingertips yet? I had a similar incident with an old Cox .049 back in the early 1970's... still don't have any feelings in my index fingertip.

I like my fingers the way there are. I once was ripping a piece of wood in a radial arm saw and passed my thumb through the blade. Didn't feel a thing........for about two minutes.
I use a Miller Persuader and also a Sullivan starter for engine starting duties. I stay away from slinging blades as much as possible. (I no longer rip wood on the radial arm saw.)

The feeling has returned pretty good but at my age, arthritis settled in on those last three fingers (end joints). It limits the use of the hand.

All Knowing Ones,

I've aquired a large Saito, but there's no indication of its size on the case. Are there any critical measurements I can take to determine which Saito this is? I've attempted to include a picture.

Looks like my 1.20S. This may seem silly, but did you look at the right side of the crankcase? If it is a 1.20S there will be a small tag in black with gold numbers. Your's may have come off.
Hopefully someone else can give you something more concrete.

The Saito 120S and 150S are the ones that fall in this situation.

[img]H:\My Videos\J-3 Piper Cub.jpg[/img][img]H:\My Videos\P-51 Mustang Heidi Ho.jpg[/img]                                Here are both of my planes with Saitos.  The Cub is a H9 J-3 80" wingspan with a Saito .72, the Cub has Large tundra tires and a leaf spring type tail wheel.  Soon to be converted into a PA-18.  The Mustang has the Saito 100, witch runs like a champ!  It sat in the garage for a year while doing some improvments.  I took it to the field, fuel it up and the dang thing fired right up!  It flys great.  I have NEVER had a dead stick landing with either of my aircraft thanks to the SAITO!!  I will never own another brand of engine.

That picture is just nasty... It took staring at it for more than a few minutes for the willies to go away. I had to email it to a few club members firstly to remind them of how dangerous these Saito engines are and secondly to offload these engines to me! :-)

I remember getting wacked by the small .049 Cox line control engines when Iwas a kid, but I never want to get hit with one of these more powerful engines. With your permission I'm going to print and laminate this photo to our club's safety board....

Question for any of you. What thread pitch is the Saito pressure tap http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...#quickOverview?

I'm trying to fit a Saito 125 with a smoke system. Surprisingly the black exhaust piece between the head and silencer was easy to drill a pilot hole into. Now I'd like to find the correct drill size and tap for the next step. And if it's weird, does anyone have a recommended, more standard, pressure tap?

I very much appreciate all your help with everything over the years, now! The standard thread sizes you've listed are much easier to work with - in regards to my limited tool selection hobby room.

We'll see how many people we can get to retighten their prop nuts this year with that picture too. :-)

I have a Saito 150 that I want to run a "crackpipe" on instead of the regular muffler. The part number I was given by someone a lot more knowledgeable than me was SAI450R3D74. I have finally got this part but it does not fit. It is too big. Can anyone direct me to the correct one??

Well, got my Saito 100 running with the new bearings. Seems to run fine, but sure seems a bit weak compared to the rpm readings in the tachometer section. I broke it in 3 tanks on Morgan 15%, which is 18% synth/castor blend, I believe. Took some rpm readings on the 3rd tank; it's only spinning an APC 15x6 about 8100-8300. Ran another tank thru it today at lunch, and tried first a Xoar 14x6 and got about 9000; then an APC 15x4w and got about 9000-9100. Doesn't seem any stronger than my .82 at this point. Idle is good; can get it down to about 2200 steady, with good response to quick throttle advance. Hoping it breaks in further; also have some Byron 20/20 that I use in my .82 to try also...

72, according to the designation code HH, that part only fits the 450 radial. Obviously the 450 does not have the same 14mm pipes as the 150. They only list flexpipes and cast stock mufflers for the 150.
