[*] 45 MKII with a twin needle carb. The carb is not reversible and has a right angle outlet to the rear.

Hello; The picture tells all, the 's' has more cam lift, and a bigger carb. Notice the bottom of the push rods, there is a difference there, the pictures show the difference.

Well, just thought I'd share a picture of the 82a on the Twist--and show Bill why I would like to rent his beard. I froze my fingers in the picture session. Ya dasn't have ANY skin showing out there. So the 82a won't be in the air today, darn.

Also included is a picture of my homemake radio glove, soft, thick lining, wind/rain impermiable cover. You can't see the face of the radio (who ever looks once in the air?), but it's warm in there, well... warmer.

Can you tell me the version difference between the 1st and 2nd engine in your picture? I just got a 45 that looks like the first -- narrow "pipe" muffler, and single bracket supporting the carb. The second engine in your picture, besides having a different muffler, has a slightly different casting of the crankcase near the front. Again, mine looks just like the first one pictured.

(The only difference I see between the carb assembly on engines 1 and 2 are the air intakes. It looks like the first is sawed off, and was a 90 elbow tube as shown on the second engine?)

I can see that the 3rd engine in the picture is the 45S from the label on the crankcase. In earlier posts, I had mentioned I got a 45S, but it clearly is not, based on the 45S you show. So, I'm trying to figure out which variant I have (Mk1, MK2, A, ??).

The Horizon Hobby "Alpha Code" chart lists the 45MK2 as a "C" engine, and the 45S as the "D" engine, and that is about as far as I have gotten on getting any real documentation listing the different versions.

Appreciate any light you can shed. Bill Robison and w8ye have provided some good information and reference material, but there is still lots of pieces missing from this jigsaw puzzle!

JKONN, what a coincidence, my birth date is 1962 !!! Your French language is VERY GOOD !!! Congratulations !!!
I have only one SAITO engine ( a 82 ci) and I'm very pleased to have bought this engine.
Generally, french modellers prefer OS because they don't know really well SAITO products and we have only one distributor. Sometimes it's necessary to wait a long time before receiving one part.

The is no correlation between the little letter stamped on the right lug of an original crankcase Saito and the Saito Alpha codes mentioned in the link.

The Saito Alpha Codes were created to make the understanding of parts usage between Saito engine models more simple.

The little letter stamped on the right lug is a production sequence number that is not too worthy of interest. It is generally accepted to be an indicator of the age of the engine but you cannot always go by this letter.

Some models of engines were given the "S" suffix to their names. There is variation to this also. For example, the 91S has no "S" in the engine model size stamped on the right side. Several models do have the "S" on the sides. The "S" engines all have the "High" cam but there are other changes also.

Although the link was posted since I saw the request, thought I'd post some add'l info. The Horizon site is notorious for having errors, or "pages not found", and then you reload the website, and the page is back! Here is the way to find the Apha Codes:

Click on "EXPLORE" tab at top of home page.
Select "Engines, then select "Saito".
You will see a list of 6 or so articles. The "Find Parts Easily with Alpha Codes" article is listed. This usually works! Note that you can get a PDF of the chart, but it is old, and does not have several of the new engines like the 125, 220 or even the 40a from last year. I was hoping the new 40a might be a source for some parts that might fit my older "45-whatever".

Also, if you may be browsing and call up a part, in the lower right corner of the page there will usually be a link to the Alpha Codes page.

I've been amazed at how horrid this site is for searching. I've spent many hours doing searches for parts by these alpha codes. Given enough time, and page loads, you can probably find it. Try the same search later, and you may get an error, so just keep trying!

I have always wanted to compare the new Saito 125 with the previous 120. Well I had the opportunity to compare the engines which are both brand new. I own the 125 and my buddy the 120. After running 3 tanks of powermaster 20/20 through each, we put the tach to them. We both have a APC 16/8 prop. I was sure that my 125 would prevail. I was wrong. My 125 was tuned to a max rpm of 8500. The 120 came out on top at 8800 rpm. We tested them several times and the results were the same everytime.I kept trying to get a little more out of the 125 because I was sure that it was better. But I could not pass the 120. Now with that, is the slightly more powerful engine worth the substantial weight, probably not. What do you think?

Similar displacement doesn't necessarily mean similar power as you've found. Try a different prop that will put yur FA-125 around 10,500 rpm, then try the same one on the FA-120. You might find the FA-125 is better when spinning faster.

All I can say to your thoughts concerning the Horizon website is "hear,hear!." Your method is, however, the means by which I relocated the chart.

You are most welcome. Was it you driving a machine that lost cabin heat @ FL 750? Not too much up there(only one comes to mind), but it was probably colder than almost any analogy one could ever think of.

#202 sounds great! Anyway, I dont know of a prop that will put me up over 10,000, I did try a 15/8 and she only went 8900 rpm. I might try a 16/4 or something.
