Hi, off topic, but I was born in Chetopa Kansas, Cherokee County. Grew up in Wichita. Are you from around there?

Sincerely,

Richard

WOW.. been a while since I was last on here and I can't believe how this thread has grown. I take that back, I can, it's Saito.. I have a quick question about my 1.00. I crashed it nose first into a fairly soft field but it was enough to bend the crank. The engine was running when it hit, I am replacing the crank and bearings. Do you think I should replace the ring and cylinder as well. I don't see any marks on them but my hunch is there is probably something I'm not seeing.

1x1.25, 2x1.00, 2x.72(1 GK) 1x.56

Thanks
Shane

How were you able to determine the crank was bent? Was it obvious?

Yes you can see it clearly. It hit after about a 100' nose dive at 1/4 throttle on a 4*60.

Hello all. Finally removed the 182 from my taylorcraft and bench ran it.Fired first back flip and handles gently.Second run i briefly throttled it up and tached 7400 with an 18x6 mas main needles three turns out.Anybody have an idea main needle settings,it runs so good now i will refit it and maybe slowly lean it off in the air.Cheers

Ok. Just wondering if you had a way of checking a slightly bent crank without pulling it and putting it on a dial gauge

I pull the glow plug and with the engine mounted or held firmly, slowly rotate the crank with my fingers observing any wiggle

I attached a new spinner to it and try to spin it. It would only turn about 3/4 and you see where it's bent. Can also see where the front bearing is slightly smashed. My other concern is if the cam gear may have been damaged. Can't say as I'm pro at checking these motors as I've never had trouble with one before other than a muffler coming loose.

Yeah, if it's bent bad it's obvious. They way I check mine after a "nose landing" is to start it up and have a close look at it . I've nose dived 3 Fliton Inspire 60's in the past year and a half due to equipment failure. All totaled. First 2 were from a bad NIMH battery. Last one was when I had to switch the crystal due to a frequency conflict at the field. I didn't have any tape to re-secure the crystal and it fell out! My bad, the RX was mounted verticle with the crystal at the bottom. This was the first time I have ever flown any plane without tape over the crystal...honestly! The first crash almost made me give up the hobby. I couldn't recover from a spin that started at about 250' and watched hopelessly as it went straight into concrete. No big deal, the crankcase and one valve cover survived! [sm=disappointed.gif]

I think I ask this question in another thread, but will also ask it here. I just acquired a new in the box Funtana S90. I need to ask if anyone thinks the O.S. 91 Surpass or the Saito 1.00 or the Saito 90 Twin will be ok in this airplane. I have the O.S. engine in a Old Cub, and the Saito 90 twin in another old cub. Would not be hard to pull either engine for the S90. Otherwise, I would opt for the Saito 1.25 engine. Opinion?

I run a 16 X 8 on mine. It sounds good.

Don't know just where the HS needles are at but the right cylinder is a little closer in than the left cylinder

Seems to be trouble free and easy to tune.

Same here 16x8 on the 1.25 is perfect. I've use a 15x10-12 and got crazy speed but too much for my Corsair.

Hello,
I have a Saito 125 that I lost the muffler on when my 90 degree adapter broke. I ordered a new adapter and flex pipe from Macs Products but they don't come drilled for the pressure tap. So where is the best place to put it? The guy at Macs said to put it on the adapter but I thought it would be to hot.

Thanks,
Rick

The silicone fuel tubing we use can withstand a lot of heat.

Y-S 110/115? type muffler systems fit the Saito 125

I drilled and tapped one on my 62.Check the fuel tank every now and then, you get some carbon flakes via the pressure line
