I believe that an impact with the ground can damage the bearings. Here we go again...new bearings on order.
Previously, I have removed the prop drive flange by heating in oven, installing a nut on the crank, holding a piece of wood over the nut and striking with a hammer. Do you think this method is OK or should I invest in a puller?

Phillip, profile models tend to exaggerate the tortional impulses caused by a light engine and strong power pulses. It is not true vibration you are seeing. Same effect though. A heavier prop would help, not load heavier but prop weight heavier.

They can be rather expensive. Look around like at Harbor Freight and find one that is not too expensive.
The Saito driver can be on pretty tight so you need a substantial puller and even then you may have to put some heat on the drive washer and use the hammer on the shaft of the puller at times.
I prefer also to use a bearing separator to clamp around the drive washer and pull against the separator. That way I avoid putting marks on the drive washer.

I put on a heavy Master Airscrew prop and it seems better. Maybe I'm just paranoid? Also, I recently installed a new metal rear cover and to get the carb and intake to line up I had to use 2 flat washers between the carb and the cover. The carb was too far away from the motor.

I converted my 82A to a 82B with a new crankcase, cam cover/shaft, screws, and backplate. I had to make a rear gasket as they were not available. Everything fit perfect with no spacing needed for the carb or the intake manifold to fit the head.

I used Permatex high temp silicone sealant on the rear cover against the block when I put it together. I do have some gasket material and can make a gasket for the cover. That will help slightly with the spacing problem i'm having.

For as making a gasket, I used the flap that was on the package for the back plate.
I pressed the oily part against the cardboard to mark it. I cut out a circle to firmly fit the cardboard over the backplate
I then installed the backplate/gasket on the engine.
You can run the screws down through the card board for their holes
With the back plate held firn against the crankcase, take a knife and trim the outside off.
Magic, you have a gasket

Working on it now. Maybe the flat washers between the carb and rear cover caused the needle to vibrate excessively. Also, I noticed a little grey residue just behind the carb which shows something wasn't right.

I like that analogy. I have a 1.20 that sounded like an opposed four cylinder at the end of its bearing life.

If it does need bearings I found out my LHS (Graves) has Boca Bearings for the .82. I'm lucky because they stock almost all Saito parts. I was noticing that the part number has "91" in it. Does that mean the .82's use the same bearings as a .91?

I highly recommend investment in the bearing separator. It'll turn a sometimes painful job into a breeze and avoid any risk of damaging the motor. Of course, you'll also need a 2 or 3 jaw puller to use it with (to do it properly).
Been there, done that (trying for a week), bought the separator (fixed in 30 seconds). Cost me $30AUD, although pricing will vary depending on where you are in the world.

I heard the building was actually a slaughter house years ago! It still ain't fancy and there is barely enough room to move around in there but their prices are good and so is their advice. A year or so ago they added a warehouse in the back and now have millions of $$$ in inventory. Over the years I've probably spent millions there! HA HA!

I feel that you are fortunate to live within shopping distance of Graves
I had to leve in the South East for three years not long ago and there was a pretty good LHS in town. But Hodges Hobbies was not out of reach and that is another great place.
I live in North Central Ohio and we have Aero Tech over in North Canton and there are several other smaller LHS within reach that we can go to.
There are other good places around different parts of the nation

I haven't been to Mac's since he finished the add on to the building, but it was great back then. He used to have a workshop open for flyers to work on their planes when there for whatever event was being held. I don't know if that is still there.
The front of the hobby shop faces a huge grass strip for flying. He had rocking chairs to sit in!

Yes blw he still has a work shop that you can work on your equipment .
I only live about 45 miles from hodges and visit evey chance I get.
Great place to buy and fly from he holds quit a few fly in's.
Has anyone ever seen him fly the big bomber. Last time I was there he was getting a new one made for him from someone out of Dothan Ala. seems he had a little issue ( crash) with the old one.

I attended SEFF in 2008 and that was the first time I had been to Mac's hobby shop. Of course I had to buy a few things. It's like placing a child in a candy shop.

Does any company make plates that are predrilled and/or tapped to attach to the back side of the motor mount surface? I could get some 1/8" aluminum stock and use my hacksaw to make them. I'm trying to get a larger surface than flat washers provide. A machine shop could make up some really nice ones but who know how much that would cost.

That guy that used to make those beautiful aluminum rear covers should start making them now that Saito has put him out of business by selling them for $9.95.
If I make some they will be oversize to provide a larger contact area. Should take about an hour.
