Full size tail draggers and is applicable to tail dragger models pull up elevator until lined up followed by gradual easing off until neutral elevator engine power should do the rest.
If you are in a hurry and are skilled enough a little down elevator to unstick the tail on the take off roll followed by up elevator works as well. This was a technique used in overloaded DC3's / C47's in SE Asia and PNG, but I digress.
Always taxi tail draggers with up elevator, tricycle under carraige (nosewheel types) however benefit from a little down on the taxi to keep everything firmly planted on terra firma until you change your mind and want to fly. However to much leads to wheel barrowing and stuffs nose gears

Agreed,still think he did a good job on a very rough strip tho.Notice the dark blobs getting flicked up on takeoff?,looked like sheep poo to me.

A full size Cub is a little different in that you use a lot of forward stick with full power to get the tail up, and then you neutralize the stick until takeoff speed, then up elevator.

wel i..i..would'nt go so far as to say he's a wench(aussie speak for an easy going female)but the my aboriginal mate wally accused his best mate alberts wife by saying he thought she worked in the red light district and was a prostitute...albert got a bit hot under the collar and said she's a substitute,only works mondays and fridays

When I was revioewing engines in my Old Timer column I did not feel the need to pull engines down for the sake of it. I used to do straight comparisons with like engines in like a/frames and reporting the results. The one and only good thing (for me) in Mr Winches reviews is that you get to see these shiney new engines reduced to their smallest component in living colour. Very handy when one is doing a rebuild.

Hi, Not a reply, just a few questions. Recent purchase of an older FA270T. While engine "looks new", didn't feel right & prop drive was slipping. HH techs did replace drive & installed new bearings, saying probably needed further breaking in. Did receive a twin manual but closest reference is FA300TD, but do have a parts breakdown sheet (VERY small picture) for the FA270T. 1st question-Have a 20x6 Zinger & wonder if it will do for further breakin & tuning? The parts list references an air needle & air needle spring; looking at the carb, do see a small chrome phillips head screw with a spring around it. The throttle lever passes over the head of this screw. 2nd question-Is this the adjustment screw for the "lo end"? Manual does reference lo speed tuning adjustments by either a needle valve or airbleed screw, but says clockwise to lean with the valve, counterclockwise to lean with the screw. 3rd question-???see 2nd question???. Have found a link to HH where a "manual" may be available, but is shows not in stock & doesn't indicate any availability date. Lastly, would anyone have an old manual for the FA270T that they might be able to make a copy available to me? Your time is appreciated & will be greatful for any responses.

Mixing fuel is a percentage thing. That is say 1 part castor to 4 parts methanol (standard FAI fuel) . So all you have to do is decide on your final volume of fuel required and proceed. Say you want 20% nitro, 25% oil rest methanol that would equate in imperial measurement for 1 gallon of fuel to 1.3 pints of nitro, 2 pints of oil the rest (6.3 pints) methanol. Me, unless it is competition fuel, I would round that down or use metric measures (litres and cc's).
I also use pipettes and measuring beakers and only mix in small quantities.

I just want to add a small amount to a gallon Cool Power LS (low smoke) 30% synthetic. The LS has 20% oil, the regular blend has 22% oil and that's what I normally use. I bought the LS by mistake. I thought a little castor would be a good idea. I purchased some Sig brand castor and need a suggestion on how many ounces to add.
