Torque Wrench has it right. I use a crock pot, full strength Prestone, and keep it outside. I take the whole engine, with the glow plug installed and let it cook overnight. You may have to give it a couple of treatments but this is the best way I've found to do it. Sometimes
a really cruddy muffler needs a little steel wool also.

When I'm happy with the treatment and the juice has cooled, I filter it back into the jug through a pair of my crotchless panty hose.

Take out the glow plug, shake all the juice out, turn it over a couple of times and unless it is a YS engine, work in a little Marvel mystery oil.

Great hobby, isn't it?

An amusing note - When a local "Know-it-all" asked about the timing gear click in a Saito, I told him it was the impulse coupling of the magneto. Since he already knew everything he swallowed it without another word.

Please don't misunderstand - I said that end float section was in the latest version - I had just written it when I saw your question.

The version of "Notes" with that in it has not been sent to anyone, and we've not covered end float before. It was a totally new topic for discussion, and I don't know what inspired me to write it anyway. But it was fortuitous.

Y-S recommends that no petroleum based oils be used internally. There is a silicone diaphragm in the regulator that will be damaged by Marvel Mystery Oil.

Looking back to your post #483 you mentioned that the stack for a .72 fits a .56. I can see they both have the same style carb but I cannot identify the stack. I want one for my .56F and a 1.00 which has the same style carb. Looked on Horizons parts lists, no joy.

Could you please post a part no. or a link.

Anyone else with info on this? Go ahead, jump in here.

I have been trying to get a stack ( have the Bru Thru filters ) for my 1.25. Nothing available from Horizon:
heres is what they found out:

Sorry, several pages back (I don't remember who) said the SAI50GK93 stack would also fit the FA-125, just a few posts ago W8YE Jim repeated it.

I just called Hobbsy, I knew he has an FA-125 to measure. He will either call me back, post here, or both.

In the meantime you can measure your carb, see if it will fit.

Mounting screw holes (C), center to center, 13 mm (0.05")
Center of mounting holes to flat bottom of carb (H), 6.5 mm (0.25")
Thickness of carb at stack mounting (W), 14.5 mm (0.575")
Bore of stack (B), 8 mm (0.3125")

Measurements are from an FA-82 carb, bore is measured on a SAI50GK93 intake stack. Inch dimensions are approximate.

I've attached a picture in case my words didn't make the point of measurement clear.

OK, here is the 1.25 with the .82 stack, it bolts right up, there is slightly less than .5mm difference in the velocity stack diameter and the 1.25 venturi diameter. When looking down the barrel so to speak the difference appears negligible however the air may think different.

Yea, still lurking You have to look at the parts list for the .72 Golden Knight engine ... It is listed there. The .72 stack fits right on the .56 but I can't speak to the 1.00 as I don't have one.. Sure Bill has posted it in here somewhere though...

I hope that I'm not beating a dead horse here, but I've come across something curious...

According to the Saito manual (for 2005 engines) the SAI50GK93 Velocity Stack will fit the 50, 56, 65, 72, 80, 82, and 91 GK's. It doesn't list a number for non-GK engines. That's the curious part....

Bill, do you have any idea why this might be? I suspect that there's no difference between the stock and the GK carbs.... if so, I wonder why they list it this way?

Also, this same book doesn't list any Velocity Stack number being available for the 100, though it does list one for the 120, 150, and 180. I haven't checked any other engines.

For anyone interested (and who has a manual) it's part number #93 in the parts listing.

Hi guys,

I have a question that might seem obvious, but still being new I don't want to make a mistake that might cause harm to myself or others.. I've been having a heck of a time getting the proper 2" aluminum spinner for my new u-can-do / .91 combo. Long story short, I think it'll be another week or two before the proper Tru-Turn items arrive at the LHS.

I'd like to try and maiden tomorrow (spent the past two sessions doing break-in and initial tuning), so I bought a 7mm x 1 Du-Bro Aluminum Spinner Prop nut hoping I could mount this for a couple sessions until the spinner arrives. Assuming there are no problems in using this item with the .91 (the thread is OK), how exactly does it mount? What I mean is, am I to replace the entire Saito prop nut / jam nut with this or use the Saito prop nut and mount this up on top of that? There's plenty of thread to work with... more than enough. Either way seems like it could make sense.

Sorry, don't mean to sound dumb, but the directions with so many of these products (e.g. NONE) leave a lot to be desired for us new guys.

On a positive note, after difficulty with initially starting the motor, needing to get a bigger 1.80 size starter and solving some fueling / siphoning issues things seem to be coming together. I'm sure after this I'll get my next plane / Saito combo in the air a lot quicker.

I think the listing is as it is because only the GK's come with stacks. I do not believe that any of the plain engines comes with a stack. Ergo, the stacks are replacement s for the GK's.
I fitted that stack to a plain .82....fits perfectly. My GK .82 came out of the box with the stack fitted.

As for the 1.00: Neither the GK nor the plain engine comes with the stack. That is probably why it is not listed as a replacement. My son-in-law has a 1.00 GK and I believe this stack fit it perfectly also.

Hmmmm, interesting... Thanks for that info. I have a .56 and a .82 (and am rebuilding a 1.20) but none of them are GK's. Never knew that velocity stacks came with the GK's as stock items. Thanks for that trivia...

The regular 50 size velocity stack will bolt right onto the single cylinder 100's or the new 125.

BUT, the stack is the same size as the throttle bore on the 100 and is smaller on the 125.

If trying the velocity stack on a 100 and you have fuel mixture problems, a good place to check out is the velocity stack.

I wouldn't bother putting one on a 125.

The 120, 150, 180, and 220 single come with a velocity stack both Golden Knight and Silver.

sl1200mk2, here is my set-up. Harry Higley markets the lock nuts and spinner nuts. I start my .91 with a standard size starter motor. The wrench size on the lock nut is 7/8". You will need a stamped or home made wrench not over about 3/16" thick.

Occasionally, one learns trivia the hard way. I got the 1.00 GK for my son-in-law as a gift. It is going into a Mustang where it will be fully cowled. I ASSUMED, wrongly, that the stack would be standard on the GK. Fortunately, I had a spare stack and Bru-Line filter lying about.
WR has mentioned many times that the stacks and filters will help keep the inside of a cowl, or the outside of an airplane, cleaner. My experience with the plain .82, both with and without stack and filter, confirms his advice. I fly from a farm/full-scale/ultralight field and suspect that filtered air is a good thing.
Also, one of my planes has a .91 GK with stack and filter. It is usually flown at half throttle with occasional full-throttle bursts. It easily runs 25 to 30 minutes on a 16 fluid ounce tank.
