Opps, I forgot to list the pride of my Saito fleet. A 1.70 radial! This one is also still in the box waiting for me to finish my Top Flite Stinson. I have great expectations for it though. I know they are very smooth and sound great.

Hummph! Big Phil, only a 1.70?[sm=lol.gif] I've seen one of these on a Pacific Aero Gee Bee and it was great sounding and had good power. I know you'll like this engine!

The prop drive is on a centering cone with an angle that is referred to as a "Locking" taper. It requires a strong puller that will latch into the groove in the drive washer. Some have had success with inexpensive pullers, but many just ruin the cheap ones. Many auto supply stores will lend tools, you might visit one and pop the drive off while you're there.

The puller I use is a lot more money than you would want to have sitting unused for 99.999% of the time, but I do use mine often. It's a Snap-On tool.

Just be sure yu pull it in the groove. If you try to grab the rear edge you'll damage the prop drive - it's thin there.

This clamp device (bearing remover) that is available at a good auto parts store, (Not Pep Boys or Auto Zone), will clamp onto the drive washer without slipping or making marks on it.

Then use a gear puller that is long enough.

The Saito prop driver often pops loose and does not release slowly.

Like Bill says, the area towards the engine from the groove is thinner than paper and will bend.

I have a saito 100, 91s and an 82. Each one thumps harder than the next. I even broke 2 engine mounts with the 82 it thumps so hard.

I dinged up the carb on the 82 and used the one off the 91s to get it back into service until then new one arrives. It seems to run fine. Does anyone know if there is a difference between the carbs. When I go to horizon's site they show different part numbers and prices for the carb assemblies. But the 82 it seems to run fine.

Nothing beats a saito. Especially when it comes to 3D. Low end torque is awsome. 2 strokes are cheap, but all the power is at the top end. To me the 2 strokes have a strange feel when flying.

The mid block carbs can all be mounted one in place of another, There are minor differences that aren;t always obvious. Add the constant production changes and you get several different part numbers.

Just mounted my first Saito, an 82, to my acro wot. Wow this motor has got some grunt although quite lumpy on the bottom end, probably because I have not got it dialed in properly yet although I did bench run it for about 1/2 a gallon. I am using an APC 14*6 prop and all synthetic fuel with 5% nitro.

Glad to be here..and then some. Everyday is !

But I have a question that maybe you or W.R. can answer...??

As the Saito is running so well and I don't want to muck it up.
And I am unable to tell from the Manual Parts Page...it's too small to be detailed much.

The Saito is in the Chipmunk and in the Inverted position, it would be nice to have the fuel inlet nipple 180 degrees or pointing to the up side rather than the stock position.
Is the nipple machined to the (spray bar or cats eye as I've seen it reffered to) ? Or can it be rotated to my perferred location with out much trouble ?
Not a big problem and can live with it the way it is.

I hesitate due to the warranty which I think is of some value.

At the base of the fitting the HS needle goes in you will see a black nut, 6mm across the flats, and a brass nut, 8mm across the flats. Leave the 8mm nut alone, loosen the black 6mm nut. Turn the fitting to get the fuel nipple where you want it, retighten the black nut. Enjoy.

Can I join too? I only have 4 Saitos, a .56, an .82, a .100GK (had to sell my .91 NIB to get this) and an old-style 120 (used - needs minor rebuilding).

By the way, what does the velocity stacks (mentioned around post 120) do for the engine, other than dress it up a little? Is it of any benefit in a cowled engine?

In a manner of speaking, the stacks greatly increase the performance of the engine. In another way they do nothing. No power increase, but they contain the back spray of fuel, you can lean the needles a good bit, your total fuel rate (and expense of operation) goes down. Also, the inside of the engine cowl stays a lot cleaner by eliminating the spray out of the carb. For maximum benefit use a Bru-Line air filter also - that catches the last bit of fuel and keeps it in the air stream.

William Robison: Another question regarding the cryptic lettering on Saito models. You said the "S" was for Special, as in FA-91S. What does the "H" stand for, as in FA-120S(H). I was at our new LHS today, gaping at all the goodies, and saw that on the box for the 1.20. The H is in parentheses on the box.

[b]I'm not sure, but I think the "H" is the latest designator for the "High Cam" engines - the ones with the mushroomed tappets. As far as I know, the "H" also came along with the new white boxes. The black and gold boxes said "High Cam" on the sides.
