Well After over 30 years in the hobby i finally bought 2 saito's a fa72 for my ugly stick 40 and a fa100 for the p51d, can I join? also what is the recemended prop and rpmfor the fa100, it is on the p51d top flight gold edition.

Muddy thats good rpm with the 100 and that prop don't lean it out to much yet.W8ye is bang on with the apc 14x10 re scale speed for the 51.Asd a guide my 115 pulls the same revs on a 15x8(low eights)and will rip a 14x10 in a dive on the midget mustang,good luck nice engine.

Barry, I took my second Saito .62 out of the box yesterday, with about an hour on it, it turns a Bolly 12.5x6 at 10,200 with stock exhaust.

Fuel===WildCat 15%/18% 80/20 blend
Plug===Taipan 4c plug
No velocity stack

I dont have enough Saitos to join yet, but I have started with a 115. So much better than a Thunder Power 91. Im still researching the cam lubrication subject. Great engine!

Scoot, you can forget the cam lube issue, that was one guy, one time, I ran my 1.15 on full synthetic fuel, WildCat 15%- 2/4 then gave it one night to drain off and the next day the cam was still wet. It wouldn't make sense for that to occcur when the 1.15 is constructed exactly like all the others.

G'day Dave.

I took one of my two Saito 62s out today for an airing. It is in a Black Horse 40 size Space Walker and suits it perfectly. I did have a 72 in the plane originally but I found it hard to get it to run well on its side so I replaced it with the 62.

It is mounted at about 135 degrees from vertical with the muffler underneath and seems quite happy like this. It had not flown for a few weeks and as the weather is now cooler it needed a small adjustment to get it to run perfectly. I think it has a Master Airscrew 12 x 6 on it (I just happened to have this on hand) and it works quite well but is not as good as a Bolly. I actually think that the 62 flies the model better than the 72 did. It is slightly less powerful BUT it is lighter and more consistent. The 72 is now in a different model mounted upright and is fine there.

My second 62 is in a World Models Skyraider Mach 1 trainer and it suits it extremely well. It has a Bolly 12.5 x 6 like yours and flies the Mach 1 brilliantly. It is also very quiet - far quieter than the one with the MA prop.

I also regularly fly a Kadet Senior (kit version) with a 62 in it which belongs to one of my students. It too is a wonderfully reliable, powerful and economical engine and it suits the Kadet really well.

I really think that the 56 and the 62 are two of Saito's best engines. My 56 is now about 9 years old, has had two really bad prangs and is still hauling a Kadet Senior around and running like a Swiss watch. I can see another 56 or 62 in my future.

Good AM Mike, my small Saito collection has diminished a lot, I'm down to a little .30 .40a, FA .40 and a .62. I still have my 2.20, two .80s and my ancient high compression 1.50. Have you tried the Taipan 4 stroke plugs in your Saitos? Thanks, Dave

No, I have not tried any Taipan plugs for many years. Mainly because they are hard to find around here. I remember you tested on and liked it.

Sadly, Taipan is not handled by any of my local hobby shops any more. They used to be quite common.

My Saito collection is something like -

30, 2 x 40a, 45 Mk 2 (with 56 cam), 56, 2 x 62, 65 (on load to a friend), 72, 82, 100, 120 (in bits), 150, 90TS and 90R3. The 82 is new and as yet un-run but all the others are in models.

I have found that I fly the 56 and 62 engines the most. It is simply because the 40 and 60 size models are easiest to transport.

The 30 is in a Dynaflyte Butterfly and is really a bit too big for it. It flies it well but the model does not handle well with too much power.

The 40as are in an 80% Astro Hog and a small Tiger Moth. Both work really well and the engine in the Tiger is inverted. So much for air bleed carbys being useless. It works perfectly inverted.

The 45 Mk 2 is in a Sig LT 40 ARF trainer. With its original cam it was not able to fly this model but with the hi-lift cam it is quite powerful and more than enough for the LT.

The 56 is my oldest Saito and is in a well worn but still good Kadet Senior. It is my choice for initial teaching duties.

One 62 is in the Space Walker and the other in the Skyraider Mach 1 trainer as I told you before.

The 65 is on loan to a friend to power a scratch built Piper Tri Pacer.

The 72 is in a modified Kadet Senior with ailerons and tail dragger UC.

The 82 is in a box but is destined for a Sig Astro Hog.

The 90TS is in a Goldberg Cub painted up as a war time RAAF plane. Works really well.

The 90R3 is in another Kadet Senior to give it some running. Not very powerful and still drops a cylinder occasionally.

The 100 is in a Sig Four Star 60. Plenty of grunt.

The 150 is in a Sig Four Star 120. Even more grunt.

The big models are nice and fly well but they can be a pain to get ready and to get to the field so they spend most of their time waiting patiently.

I also have three Lasers. A 70 is in another Kadet Senior, a 100 is in a Decathlon and I was flying it recently and the 150 is in a 120 size Space Walker where it is brilliant. Nice to fly too. Of these the 70 gets the most use though lately the Kadet I fly most is a friend's with a 62 in it so mine get left behind as there simply is not enough room to take two Kadets when we go out as I take him too.

Enjoy the warming weather. Here it is starting to cool down and we have been having some nice frosty mornings. Happily it does not snow here though.
