I found an unused TurboHeader in one of my little organizer drawers. Then I remembered buying it for my Saito .50 which I sold. I decided to try it on my old Saito FA .40.

Engine==Saito FA .40
Prop===APC 12x6
Fuel===WildCat 2/4 with 18% all syn.
Plug===Fox Miracle
RPM stock muffler=======8,350
RPM Davis In Cowl Muffler==8,350
RPM TurboHeader========8,550
A single click richer covered the additional 200 rpm.

The 12x6 is a bit much in my opinion but believe it or not I don't have an 11x6

It's amazing to me that the 40 can turn a 12x6 at 8500 rpm. I barely can get my (other brand) 52 4-stroke to turn a 12x6 at 8500 rpm.

If I had put a real prop on it instead of the blender blade it would probably not quite make 8,500, I'm going to look for a Graupner or MasterAirscrew K 12x6. Then I'll feel better informed.

Thanks for the info. I don't think the TurboHeader was tested on anything below a .52. I need to add the .40 to my chart. Let me know how it does with the different prop.

@RC Specialties the pressure port I put in your 90deg adapter works good, you might want to add that as an option.

A lightweight straight stack for it would be great too, still too lazy to machine my own.

That is a modification that I will leave to the end user. That would be getting away from its main purpose. Thank you for the suggestion. We also have a new engine application chart on our site. It breaks things down by engine model. I apologize to the moderators if this post is not appropriate.

Jim, I guess you haven't had any requests for the smaller .40a which has an 8mm exhaust. Quite a difference in physical size with the .40a being about 100 rpm stronger.

I have had a few request on the .40a. To confirm, the old FA .40 has a 10mm exhaust thread and the .40a has an 8mm?

I must apologise the little .30 and the .40a have 9mm exhaust, that little detail has escaped me for too long. Sorry about the fuzzy pictures, my little camera doesn't like to picture shiny things. The Zero index is dead on 9mm.

Jim, since the exhaust comes out at an angle would a 9mm to 10mm adapter be more practicle and just use the 10mm TH?

The 10mm TurboHeader will obviously not fit the .30 and the 40a with a 9mm exhaust thread. There may be some retuning requirements for engines with that displacement. The 10mm TurboHeader was designed for the .52 to .62 displacement range. As for the angle, the adapter would provide more flexibility but the TurboHeader can be mounted directly onto an engine with the 10mm thread. My chart shows the .30 and the .40a to have a 9x .75 thread.

Fellas, I need help.

I flew my plane with the Saito 1.80 today quite a bit. But then it started to stall at idle, then it quit idling and it won't even quit. I had to pinch the fuel line to stop it. I found out that the set screw fell out. The carb throttle barrel was sliding out and not throttling. Any idea where I can get a screw like that? And how do I make sure it doesn't fall off again, use Locktite?

The key word situation in the search function seems to work better at Horizon now. It makes it easier to find something. It works almost as good as it did 12 years ago before they started messing with it.

Howdy I am going to put the 82b alloy rear cover on the 82a and I wish to know what size screws are used to fit the carb to the rear cover. It seems that you cant buy these seperatly, they come as a set so if there a easy to get size I will try and get them at the lhs. I know this subject has come up before but I cant find it . Thanks the pope

It's $5 to ship to within USA. So, I imagine shipping to Australia is more.

Besides, if it weren't for your help, I would still be searching in that crazy Horizon Hobby website.
