OK, an error. I should never have let MOTORMAN37 in. His number 243 will be assigned to the next qualified applicant.

So why am I kicjing him out? Simple. He was already in as number 236, and he is still a member in good standing with his original number.

Haw.

All:

It seems our friend BL has struck again. Every time he posts the thread become "[awaiting approval]"

To keep this from happening do not use the quick reply box, instead go to any post that has the "Club Saito" title and clikk "Reply" at the top of that post. This will force the title to that shown in the post selected.

Bill.

Been a while since I posted a club roster. Hee it is in JPEG format, listed alphabetically by user name. If you think you should be on it and don't find your name please let me know.

That last posted roster comes out too small to read. Broke it in half, let's see if this is better using two images.

Bill.

I think it is actually "LB"? Seems like for days I have come on here and looked at the latest post and seen a name that starts with the letter "L" and when I click on it, that particular poster is not able to be seen. If you click on this posters profile, you will see in big red letters the word SUSPENDED.

So, to this particular individual. Why don't you give it a rest here for a while?

We have only two criteria for membership in Club Saito. The first is statement in this thread of Saito ownership, you have now done that.

The other, and this is where you are lacking, is being a member of RCU in good standing.

Make your peace with RCU administration and get back on full membership, then if you can keep it for a week or two come on back, I'll give you a number.

Bill.

Hey! Maybe you could sell that low number on eBay ... but to keep on topic:

I just bought a 3 piece set of gear pullers at Harbor Freight. The smallest, a 3" model, is really big, at least for working on my 45! I'm thinking of selling off the other two to a someone that wants to overhaul his tractor (and HF has even larger models). It looks like the jaws will need a fair amount of grinding to fit, and the ends of the three arms sawed off to allow the front ends to pivot close in to fit the engine squarely. Is anyone aware of a smaller puller? I looked at battery terminal pullers, but the ones I've seen so far looked like a worse fit than if I just modified what I have.

On the bright side, the 3 puller set at HF was on sale for $10. (Gotta love them for many of their items. I bought a used truck and it was missing the hydraulic jack. Dealer wanted $180, HF sold me one for $8 ...)

I got these at the Auto Parts.

One is a bearing separator to clamp behind the drive washer or in the groove if there is one.

Most any puller will latch onto the bearing separator. I found a small one at the Auto Parts

I am fairly new to r/c and have recently purchased a Saito (pronounced Sigh-to in Japan?) 82 and a Saito 30 for future projects. I plan to read the 93 odd pages of posts on this thread to educate myself, and hope to have questions answered by those of you with experience I'm yet to attain.

What did LB do to get suspended. What is the difference between suspended and a full membership if you can still post.[sm=confused.gif]

Here's another option for the puller/separator:

Tim,
I got similar items from Harbor Freight after Bill showed me which gear puller I wanted.
The splitter and puller are very versatile AND it works better than Greg and my weapon of choice for Saito disassembly!

Thanks to all for the suggestions on pullers -- and maybe I need to visit a few more auto parts stores. The bearing separator is a good idea, in combination with the puller.

If all else fails I'l probably go ahead and modify the HF puller.

Thanks,

Lee

and a Saito 30 for future projects.
stallwart, if you find a fun plane for that .30 Saito, how about sharing it here. I have one that like the old bo weevil is "just lookin' for a home".

Hi,
I'm new to the club.I have a couple of saito engines 45 & 56.The 45 is needing a bit of TLC.I'm looking at giving it a overhaul. Are there any tips for stripping, any problem area's.These engines are pleasure to own.Any advice welcome.Cheers.
VACE,

The 45's are hard to find parts for. If you give up, I'd be happy to buy yours ...

Seriosuly though, I'm contacting folks in the UK now -- seems they still have them. I need an intake manifold, and they just do not seem to exist. There are several 45MKIIs on eBay currently, even new ones. (There's an idea -- buy a new one for parts to rebuild my junker ...)

Stal, if you simply want to have some fun and relaxed flying get yourself an LT 25 kit and put that .30 on it, I deck mine out with a nose gear and bolt on wing, I have my 3rd one built but not covered yet. I use a 10x6 where there is short grass and a 10x5 when the grass is a little long, the 10x5 will haul it out of the grass in nothing flat.

Actually, I'm planning to use the 30 in a Polks Hobby Fokker DR.1 Tripe. The price is right for the ARF, although the "Peanuts" Red Baron scheme irritates me. I've read a review of this plane using and old OS25 4-stroke that gave me ideas, despite it's popularity with the "lectric" crowd due to it's small 38-40" span.
By the way, my 82 is destined for a Model Tech Se5a bipe due to the engine's remarkable lack of dead weight.
As the weather warms, I'll be breaking in these engines. I have acquired some tips and info, but more will be greatly appreciated.

Tim:

I have a bearing splitter with a bridge very similar to yurs, mine is rated at 30 tons so I'd think mine is bigger than yours. But it's a bit of overkill for the Saito drive washer. It is basically the same thing I recommended to jlkonn.
